Wes Crawford offers drum lessons that focus on the fun side both privately and at Goucher College in Baltimore, MD. Private drumset lessons are held in Wes’s music studio in his home in Silver Spring. Wes teaches using a sequenced curriculum modeled after a typical martial arts system of colored «belt» achievement levels that can be tailored to an individual’s strengths, weaknesses, and preferences. Students receive a free pair of Vic Firth sticks with the appropriate colored band around them as they achieve each new level. Lessons are generally 30 minutes in length, but Wes will occasionally teach 45 or 60-​minute lessons in certain situations. Lessons scheduled by appointment only. History

Established in 1994.

I came off the road from touring for 11 years in 1992 and settled into the Silver Spring, MD area where I began performing with numerous bands. I started teaching drum lessons at a local music store (now defunct) in 1994. By 1995 I set up my home studio for teaching, and I began teaching at Goucher College, as well, by 1997. In 2013 I changed my curriculum to some extent when I began using a method book called «THE KIT,» written by Toronto drummer, Jeff Salem. This book sets objective and attainable goals for the student and, when each level is mastered, the student is rewarded with a colored «belt,» similar to Tae Kwon Do methods. In our case, the student is given a new pair of Vic Firth sticks with a colored band around the end matching the belt level attained by the student.
