I work for a very high end home here in dc. We had used elegant floor in the past so we decided to use them again because of the familiarity of our home. We ended up having a few issues. 1) the poor quality they provided to protect our floor molding. We ended up with stain around most of our floor molding in every room they did. Using the excuse read the contract some minor damage will be at our cost (Agreeable). But not when it not minor and its in every room and across the floor boards. I took picture to show them what was done and how bad the tape job they did. It got to the point to where they hired a subcontractor to come in and finish the job. In fact the subcontractor said to us that they are the one that come out when elegant floors don’t want to fix, finish or have don’t a bad job. In which I can say the subcontractor did a much better job left very minimal damage. I show them they picture and showed them what they did any they also said that it was a bad job they did and it could of been done better especially for who the company is. 2) I spoke with the owner who expect to get paid even though he still hasn’t sent out anyone to fix it. The bad part is that he has not even come out to see how bad of a job his guys did taping and protecting our floor molding. Beside saying explain to me why there was stain on the wall before. According to my knowledge there was none there before. but shows me a picture that he sent me a week later after his guy had not come back. Enough of my ranting. I would advise to really shop around there quality of work is not great especially when they keep having to send subcontractor to fix there work. This show that Just because you have a big name doesn’t mean you do a good job anymore. We still have the rest of our house to do. We will not be using this company again nor do we recommend this company to any one. I do have to say the floors look nice but it was not worth all this hassle.

We hired Elegant Floor Services since we had used them on a previous job. I didn’t want to go through the hassle of find another service provider after a good experience before. Elegant Floors did a great job on the hardwood floors but our freshly painted baseboards and refurbished plaster walls paid the price. I made it very clear to Elegant Floors that our baseboards were freshly painted and to be extremely careful and they weren’t. It seemed as if Elegant Floor Services took no effort to be extra careful and slopped stain on our baseboards and scuffed them. We informed Elegant Floor Services of this issue and they did send an individual out to repaint our baseboards. This individual only repainted the scuff marks and failed to repaint over the stain. Eventually, I grew tired of waiting on Elegant Floor Services to correct this and did it myself over the weekend. The plaster wall had been chipped in two different places and Elegant Floor Services attempted to repair the wall only making it worse.
On the bright-​side, Elegant Floors did pay for the plaster wall repair and compensated me an entire $ 100 for all of the frustration they caused my wife and I. Our frustration with Elegant Floor Services and the complete disregard for our requests has caused me to give them a ²⁄₅. Also, I swear the upstairs floors they re-​finished for us is a completely different stain than our main floor but Elegant Floor Services didn’t seem to care much about that complaint.

I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I am with Elegant’s services. They came to my home the week before Thanksgiving 2013, with a promise to have the floors refinished in time for turkey. Mariano was the crew chief. The crew moved all the furniture, while the other companies I contacted told me that would be my responsibility. (Get a rental truck, they said.) Of course, I paid Elegant to do it, according to our contract, but hey, it was well worth the price. The crew refinished the floors in eight rooms, and a hallway. They were professional and exceptional in their work. Would I hire them again? Absolutely! And I highly recommend Elegant over the other three companies I spoke with.

Compiled a thorough estimate, performed quality work and cleaned up the work site. My only complaint is that they banged up the walls a bit bringing the wood up the stairs and they made a few holes in the ceiling of the room below. Not a big deal and easily fixable. I would still recommend them.

Hired Elegant to come in and redo floors after I took a stab at it with some people who claimed to know what they were doing. Not a smart thing to do with 100+ year old floors.
Elegant was able to come in strip the flooring and restored them to its original glory. In 5 days, over 2000 sq ft of flooring was done for a very very reasonable price. They did an amazing job and I have recommended them to friends. Their craftsmanship was superb.

Excellent work. Put in new subfloor and hard wood floors. Leveled out floors too. They did great work! Followed our directions exactly and we got exactly what we wanted. They consulted us on any questions they had, and they were reasonably priced!

After an electrical fire created floor damage to our first level, we decided it was time to apply some of the insurance money towards an upgrade — hardwood floors. Our rowhome is 120+ years old, meaning that the original hardwood could be great once refinished, or could be too worn to make it worthwhile. The guys at Elegant (who had given us a quote the previous year, when we thought our budget would allow for the project) knew their stuff. We received bids from many companies, and Elegant seemed to be the best in terms of advice and general knowledge. They advised us to lay an entirely new floor, as our original hardwood was not only just under carpet, but also a layer of linoleum (ew, 70’s), AND a previous owner (who must have not had any sense for design) PAINTED the floors. Considering that, as old as they are, that paint could be lead paint, that opens up another whole can-​o-​worms. Anyway, the plan we decided on was this: strip the old carpet and linoleum layers and lay down new oak floors throughout the hallway, living room, and dining room.
The results are magnificent. We are so pleased with the outcome. Our friends, who have also used Elegant, rave about their product as well.
But like all home improvement companies, its hard to be perfect. Our complaints are few, and small, but noteworthy. We were quoted 3 days for completion of the project — it took 4, plus another visit to move the furniture back into place (understandable). Day 1 was just to remove carpet and linoleum layers — my husband came home early that day, around 1:30 or 2, and the crew was already gone. Perhaps if they had stayed a full day then, the project wouldn’t have had to spill over to a fourth day. Who knows. Also, our stairs (original pine, which we were refinishing) gave the crew a bit of trouble. They said they could sand and refinish the treads, but not the risers (it was «too hard»). We’re fine with that, but we were surprised that when we asked for a deduction since only ½ the stairs were finished, that each riser costs about half of a tread to finish, so we didn’t recoup as much as we had hoped.
The crew was nice and did a GREAT job with dust control, moving our furniture out (somehow they were able to get everything into our itty bitty kitchen!) and back in again, and fairly good with communication during the project. It is not the cheapest company, but they do a great job and know their stuff.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. They are incompetent and had to do our floors over twice. Instead of fixing their mistakes, they made them worse. We are now in the process of taking them through an administrative law proceeding in Maryland, which is cumbersome, but necessary, given the fact that the floors are so bad that they have to be redone AGAIN.
Their sales staff are fairly slick, but once you hand them some money, it’s a different story and all of the comments here about their unresponsiveness and their nasty attitude reflect our experience as well. I may edit this later and if Unilocal allows photos, I will try to post. They did a job that was laughingly bad.
Take my advice and go somewhere else — anywhere.

I’m terribly regretful that I ever hired Elegant Floor Services for wood floor refinishing. I WILL NEVER HIRE THEM AGAIN! They did horrific work and the owner was beyond rude to deal with. They came out to fix their 1^st round of very bad work, and botched it up even worse, not to mention the huge inconvenience of having it re-​done multiple times. Correcting Elegant Floor’s errors meant hiring another company for extremely specialized repair thanks to Elegant’s sub-​par quality. They were unbelievably unprofessional, incompetent beyond measure, and have ruined the beautiful floors!!!

Had them in to do some of the wood floors on our main level. The salesman (Cliff) came in and had a good estimate, We had them in and they did a decent job. So we called them when we wanted to floor more of our main floor, Cliff told us they wouldn’t be able to match the color exactly but it would be close. When they came in to install they showed me a patch away from the other wood and asked if it was ok. Since I couldn’t compare I said I guess so. Well the worker had a completely different color. Cliff hadn’t even told them what type of stain was used on the first job. When we called the office they assured us it would dry to the same color. It didn’t. The manager went from saying that it was the same color, to saying that it was our fault since I thought it was the same. After weeks of complaining they finally came in and refinished the floors begrudingly. Their fault since we will be doing more areas of our house and they won’t get our business!

I cannot be strenuous enough in my recommendation not to use Elegant. They performed some of the work for which I had hired them. But then they charged my credit card without my authorization for the ENTIRE AMOUNT of the contract, including for work they had not yet performed. I contacted them immediately and figured they would just explain that it was a mistake and reverse the charge. Rather than admitting a mistake, they stuck by the charge and said it was their practice to charge credit cards without authorization. Baffled, I reiterated my request that they reverse the unauthorized charge. But a month after I initially brought the issue to their attention, the charge remains on my credit card and my emails have gone ignored. At no time have they claimed they had my authorization or that the work was complete. If working with a company with integrity with honest and responsive employees, look elsewhere.

I was also using Elegant Floors after a successful installation of hardwood floors. Cliff again came to the house, but was about 45 minutes late. We told him what we wanted (matching hardwoods), but he didn’t write down anything we said. He said since we used their company before, it was all «on file». He took the measurements, left, and a day or so later we received an estimate of the cost. We received several calls to set up our appointment. When the crew came out, they installed the wood in the wrong direction (like in the other review), then ripped it all out. Then they stained the floor the wrong stain color. They wiped a bit in the middle of the floor and asked us how it looked. We figured since they had our info on file, it was at least the color we requested. No, it wasn’t and no one asked us what color the other floors were. OY! They are not standing behind their work, not correcting their mistakes. Stay away! Find a reputable company– one that cares about its customers.

Once again I have to give accolades to Elegant Floor Services. I had a major flood from the neighbor upstairs. OMG! My gorgeous new floors! Elegant was out within 48 hours of my call and at a time convenient for me. Surveyed the situation, offered me more than one solution as well as conerns to consider if we did not replace here and now.
The decision was made to replace the one area of the floor now. Again we scheduled a time convenient for me, which was yesterday. It was done and I am back to looking goregous. The staff was more than courteous and more than careful since they were working in an occupied apartment.
