Anthony Willey specializes in full service piano tuning, regulation, and repair. A real piano «tuning» involves more than just getting the strings in tune: tone, touch, control, proper hammer striking, working dampers, lubrication, and cleanliness are all important.

History

Established in 2001.

Anthony Willey has been in piano technology for over 10 years. He completed a 4 year apprenticeship/​training program while working as a piano tuner and technician at the Brigham Young University piano shop, and is a Registered Piano Technician with the Piano Technicians Guild. He tunes using a combination of professional piano tuning software and aural tuning.

Anthony is a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) and holds a masters degree in Physics from Brigham Young University. He has over a decade of experience in piano technology and 25 years of experience as a classical musician, playing and teaching multiple instruments including the string bass, violin and piano. Anthony is also an avid physics geek and part-​time inventor, who tinkers in 3D printing and software development. In 2013 Anthony and his wife Brittany moved to Seattle.

I inherited a 100 yr old piano that belonged to my mother. I grew up in Hawaii where the weather did a number on the piano, along with years of neglect. I had been told that the piano could not be tuned (which I did not tell Anthony). He came out two days after my call, and arrived promptly on time. He spent 4 hours tuning the piano and was extremely honest as he was doing so. He made it clear from the start that some pianos are just too old to be worth fixing but told me he’d do his best.
He still has more work to do, but the piano sounds better than I’ve heard it sound in years. I will absolutely have Anthony finish the work on my piano and would highly recommend him to anyone needing piano work done. He took an old piano which was probably needing to be scraped, and turned it into a piano that my kids can play and keep in our family.

Anthony was fantastic! We inherited a piano that had not been touched in many years, so Anthony had his work cut out for him. He worked hard not only on the tuning, but also on some other maintenance items for the piano, and it sounds great now! Anthony truly went above and beyond in his service – would highly recommend!

Anthony was so wonderful. He tuned our 100 year old piano and it sounds awesome. He came the next day, was friendly, professional and very affordable. You can tell he’s a perfectionist and I call him «the piano whisperer.» He also fixed a broken key for $ 5! I will never use anyone else and will recommend him to anyone whose piano is in need of some TLC.

I am so pleased to have found such a lovely person to tune our piano. It hadn’t been serviced since we moved to the area two years ago, but I know that when it has been serviced in the past it wasn’t gone over nearly as thoroughly. Anthony will be our only piano tuner from now until one of us moves away. :)

Our old upright piano was very out of tune, played two notes to one key, and played nothing on two keys! Mr. Willey came in and repaired two hammers, replaced two missing ivories, and tuned it beautifully. He was very clear about what was included with the tuning, and what the cost would be for replacing the missing hammers, no surprise fees at the end. We will definitely be going with him again when we need another tuning.

Breathtaking service! A complete gentleman. Willey was in my home to tune our old piano yesterday. He did a fantastic job! If you need reliability, thoroughness and excellence, I sincerely recommend you go with Willey. He not only tuned the piano, he examined the tear and wear of the bench, the wood work, etc. He even tightened some nuts and boats for us. Now, I can enjoy my piano again. He is good. Than you Willey!

Fantastic experience would greatly recommend Anthony! We bought an old piano in craigslist and having read all of the scary stories on the web about how wrong this can go i was very nervous. Anthony came and did everything needing doing and more in 2 hours being very reasonable about price. He was very professional and great to work with. We will definitely use him again for future tuning and any other piano related work.

Great service! We had a stuck piano key, but figured we’d go for the full tuning service. Anthony arrived promptly, fixed the problem immediately, and offered to skip the tuning — but we went ahead with it. And we’re so glad we did. The piano has never sounded better. He was very thorough, taking nearly two hours to complete the tune up. Afterwards he performed a quick concerto to demonstrate the improvement. He even tightened up the piano bench without us asking (our previous tuner never touched anything but the piano itself).
If there’s one thing we’d do differently, it would be to clean the shed cat fur from around the piano area prior to the visit. Mr. Willey has a cat dander allergy, and he sneezed frequently during the tuning session. It did not impact his work; he’s a real trouper and hero of the arts!

I had an excellent experience, I was curious about the mechanics of piano tuning and Anthony chatted with me about doubling frequencies, interference, and harmonics as he worked on my piano. I got the chance to see what it was like to tune an individual string, and he answered all the questions I had about the numbers of strings used per note, and all the mechanical details that go into a piano.
I’d recommend Anthony, not just for the excellent job he did at tuning, but if you have any interest in learning more about pianos or the physics of music, he was extremely well qualified to talk about it. — Mark

Anthony visited last week to clean and tune our Steinway baby grand (it had been through three moves and a winter in storage in the past five years). We couldn’t be happier with his service. Anthony was friendly, extremely knowledgable and thorough. Our piano hasn’t sounded this good in years! Highly recommended!

I’ll join the other reviewers in praising Anthony Willey for his piano tuning. Similar to the first review, we have an old piano that hadn’t been tuned in over 30 years. Anthony arrived as scheduled, was courteous and respectful and started immediately to work. We had one stuck key that he fixed in no time at all and a missing felt on the lowest key. Not only does he understand the mechanics of the piano and can make repairs easily, he tuned our piano so that it sounds better than I can ever remember it sounding before. Anthony is knowledgeable, likable and a pleasure to work with. We will be calling him again in a year because after his artful tuning, I’m motivated to keep the piano in tune and in repair and he’s the man to do it.

I could not be more pleased.
I have a 100+ year old upright piano that I grew up playing, and I could not think of a time it has been tuned. It was time and I knew a project. I called Willey Piano Tuning and he was able to accommodate and after work appointment within that week. Great start. He arrived in a timely fashion ready to go to work. He was also very respectful of being in someone else’s home.
Over the course of nearly three hours (my piano’s fault, not his speed), I’ve never seen or heard it sound like this. Not only did he tune and pitch lift, he also went through and corrected some of the original ivories that a family member had poorly glued over the years. (Some were crooked and made a tick when played.) He also came prepared with spare parts as needed. At one point it was vacuuming/​cleaning the inside which I know hasn’t been done.
His rates were beyond reasonable. I highly recommend his service to anyone in need of a tune or more. I was so pleased with Anthony’s service that I am referring friends and family to him.

I contacted Mr. Willey a week before Christmas for a surprise tuning for my boyfriend who has been playing piano most of his life. We had just moved from Texas to Washington with a baby grand piano at the beginning of December. With all of the travel in our u-​Haul, the piano was in desperate need of a tuning. When I called Mr. Willey, he was able to fit me in within a couple of days which was pretty shocking that close to Christmas!
He arrived on time for the appointment and was very professional. He worked for a couple of hours and the piano sounded better than even after the last tuning we had back in Texas! My boyfriend was thoroughly impressed and we will definitely contact Mr. Willey for our next tuning.
His prices are very affordable and we are really enjoying our piano now that it’s in tune again!

My piano hadn’t been tuned in over 9 years. Anthony tuned it up, fixed the pedals, polished up the keys and now it sounds, looks and works great. He was very friendly and very entertaining for our kids. He was quick to respond, prompt to show up and his price was by far the best we have seen in this area. Anthony did an amazing job. We had an old piano given to us and it was very, very out of tune and needed some repairs. There were missing ivories, sticking keys, and keys that continued to vibrate after you let go. He fixed it all for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend him.

I have used Anthony Willey’s services repeatedly on everything from beat up studio uprights to concert Steinways and Yamaha C7s. Most recently Alex tuned Jon Schmidt’s C7 for a The Piano Guys Concert. He has tuned all 5 Steinways for performances of The 5 Browns and I’ve used him for other high profile events. He’s fantastic and very affordable. Try finding another piano tuner who has a Masters Degree in Physics. Who built his own harpsichord in his mom’s garage. I set him to work on a fleet of beat up pianos at conservatory for young musicians and he completely revived some pretty sick instruments.
I am a professional conductor and am exceedingly picky when it comes to tuning an instrument. I highly recommend Anthony to you without reservation. If he’s good enough for Jon Schmidt and The 5 Browns he’s probably going to be great in your living room, church, or school. You certainly won’t find a better educated or good natured piano tuner!
We will miss him now that he had relocated to Washington.
