Established in 2010.

What began as a single salon near London, England, in 1963 has evolved into a worldwide brand synonymous with beauty education, fashion, quality, and innovation. Big fan once you find your «person» its so sad when they graduate.
Cons: Front desk staff is the biggest down fall of this place.

Got a hair color and neck trim and I am a happy client! Nikki, the student, and her instructor Jess were friendly, welcoming, and very attentive to what I wanted in my hair. Thank you so much ladies, I had so much fun with you. $ 30 hair color. $ 17 hair cut. I would come back and will ask for Nikki for my neck trim again.

I am visiting the shoreline area this summer and needed a trim. I first tried to book an appt. at gene juarez academy in mt lake terrace but nothing was a available for two weeks! I found toni & guy on a google search. I called and booked an appt. for the next day. I was met at the door by a receptionist who confirmed my appt. and gave me a short questionnaire. I only waited a few minutes before the stylist greeted me and walked me to the chair. We chatted about what i wanted, twice an instructor came to consult with the stylist as well to check the final result. The salon is open (one large room) for cutting and shampooing). Plenty of natural light as one side of the salon is all windows. I asked the stylist if she could flat iron my shoulder length hair and she said that it would be an extra charge. She then checked with her supervisor and said that she would do it for free. It usually is a $ 45 fee! My hair is already straight, i just like how it lays flat when straightened. It only took her about 10 mins to straighten so it was very nice of her to not charge. All in all it only took about 30 mins more for the whole appt. than when i go to my regular stylist. I paid 17.00 for the womans shampoo, cut, and style. A real bargain with great results.

I like them and will be going back there. I went and got my 4 year daughter and my hair done and they were wonderful with her. They took their time and actually gave her a lollipop and when she asked the lady to braid her hair she did. They made her feel good and anywhere that does that is good in my books.

Let me start by saying I know this is a school, and not all the students are at the same level. BUT, I had a senior hair stylist.
I went in to get a trim and to remove all my split ends. The cut took 2 hours, which I thought was very long for the cut I got. When I got home and looked closely, I noticed my hair still had tons of split ends.
My stylist also didn’t seem to know to any of the questions I asked her.
It seems like the instructors aren’t helping enough and it t seems like the students just have to figure it out on their own, which seems unfair to the students and to the customers.
The prices are perfect (haircuts are 18 $ and coloring is 45 $), but not if you have to get your cut redone or fixed.
Anyway, I might recommend this to someone on a very tight budget, because it’s still better than Cheap Cuts or Cost Cutters.

Awesome, friendly customer service from the receptionist, the hairdresser, to the instructors & even the hairdresser’s cutting hair nearby. Salon is spacious & kept extremely clean. My hair is very happy now– I’ll definitely be coming back.

The worst haircut I’ve ever had. From a student who had been training for 11 months and was due to graduate. Even the instructor couldn’t get it right. I had 3 different lengths of hair and all I asked for was a neat, tailored-​looking haircut for my fine (not thin) hair. Never again! Got what I paid for.

I had the best experience at this salon! I came in for a color correction after someone majorly messed up my blonde hair color. The instructor Jess and student stylist Jazmin devised a great plan to get my hair back. I left the salon LOVING my color. Jess and Jazmin saved my hair and I couldn’t have been more pleased.

I had a wonderful experience at T&G academy today. I move to Seattle about 6 months ago and have had little success at finding a new hair stylist. They’ve been so so but no one I feel strongly to return to.
I decided to give T&G a try since I used to go to one of the academies in Arizona. Ivana was my student stylist and a real gem. She listened about the color I wanted and explained everything so well. I am so please with the color especially since i tried something a little new and different. Ivana also did a wonderful job on my haircut and bangs. Best color and cut I’ve gotten out of 3 salons in Seattle so far (and of course you can’t beat the price).
I cannot wait to return for Ivana to color my hair again!
Just remember — it’s all about supporting the students, if you’re in a hurry this is not the place for you, but if you want to be well cared for and have a student take their time to make you happy — definitely the place to go!

Anita is awesome! 2 weeks ago she cut my hair & today she colored it. She listened & my hair looks great, exactly like I wanted it.
Each time I’ve gone I’ve had a great experience.
Students are supervised by teachers.
It’s inexpensive & I have found it to be worth the time that it takes to get my hair done.
If your looking to get a cut or color ask for Anita, she is fantastic!

Riki was amazing! He was VERY careful and really takes hair styling seriously! (He’s a bit of a perfectionist — or maybe I should say he’s a true artist!) He didn’t just give me a cut straight out of the book, but was able to combine cuts to tailor it to what I wanted/​needed. I was very happy with the result. When he didn’t know exactly what to do he wasn’t afraid to ask the instructor. One star off because it did take 2 hours, but if you’ve got time to spare, it’s definitely worth it! :)

I’ve gone to Toni & Guy’s since it opened and to Greenwood Salon previously. Zach, the main supervisor today, was friendly, super-​talented and responsive to my requests for fine-​tuning my cut. Aaron, my student stylist, was personable and did a careful job. I came out with a fine cut and always have. Yes, students take longer but that’s normal. Most supervisors are good, the front desk personnel are polite and helpful, the salon bright and clean. Some supervisors don’t provide much guidance and one in the past year demanded that I tell her which of the cuts in the book fit my described cut, as if I were the student. Every organization has a few nuts, so I tried to take it with a grain of salt.
However, it seems to me that Greenwood’s supervisors took more time with the students so I hope T&G’s will consider doing that. Also, when the supervisor takes on some fine-​tuning work it reduces the time for a cut when a student is bogged down and provides an instant training for the student. I don’t expect students to have all the skills that a supervisor has yet I want an excellent cut.
The music today was mellow R&R but at times in the past the music has been way too loud, too much bass, perhaps hip hop. I’m there for a cut, not a deafening concert. Corporate has bought the franchise, the cut price is now $ 17 and a front desk person said the new theme is Techno so she expects techno music. If so, I won’t be back. Perhaps the morning sessions can be geared to the older crowd with lower volume music from earlier decades. The Greenwood Academy had tons more seniors, so perhaps louder music is one reason for the decline.
Overall, I think they do a fine job and I enjoy encouraging the students and seeing their color and cuts. I’ve gotten some cuts here that were far better and more interesting than moderately priced cuts elsewhere.

I’ve been going here for a little over a year or so, and recently started bringing my son here too and its been just all right. When you go here, you may not get the cut or style you wanted, you may not get a great cut at all, and you will be there a while. This is a school, so these are students practicing on your head. My hair is pretty short (above my shoulders) and I have never gotten a cut here that took less than two hours (sometimes 3 hours)…well, once I did, and it was probably the worst cut I’ve had in my life. All but once, I have had to go back to have them fix something on my hair that was messed up – some things were minor like my bangs were crooked, some were major like the worse cut in my life. If you get someone that gives you a great cut, what you asked for in under two hours, chances are that person is getting ready to graduate from the program and will not be there the next time you need a cut.
With all that said, I kept going back… I was getting what I paid for and I pretty much expected the above. While I wasn’t getting great cuts, I wasn’t getting really bad cuts either (with one exception). I wasn’t working and the price was right!
But that all changed on 11÷11÷13 when they changed their prices. Kids cuts went from $ 7 to $ 12, and adult cuts went up too, I think from $ 12 to $ 17 or more. While its only $ 5 more, it is no longer worth it to me. I can go down the street and get a cut from someone who has already graduated, has experience, gives me a pretty good cut for a few bucks cheaper… and I’ll be in and out in half an hour (my son in 10 minutes). For the same price, my son can get his hair cut at his favorite sports-​themed, guys only place, where he gets a great cut.
I will say that you will meet some great people who are excited to start their careers, the environment is fun, the instructors are great.

I expected a bit more from a name like Toni & Guy, they are known in the U.K. for top notch service. I used to go to their salons for a haircut when I lived in London.
I went there once for a haircut, but it took 2 hours because the instructor wasn’t available to sign-​off on the cut. The next time I went was for a mani-​pedi, the instructor never came to check up on the student, the student complained how the academy wasn’t providing the correct tools to do a good mani-​pedi. She also complained that the polish was old & difficult to work with and no top coat was provided so my nails were never finished.
Both my visits indicated there is an issue with management and the instructors at Toni&Guy. If you want to support a local school, I recommend you go to the Aveda Institute in Capital Hill.

I love this place.
I met Sarah and she gave me a coupon for a free haircut and style. I was visiting from out of town, but I thought why not, I need a hair cut and I was thinking about a color.
I go there, ask if she can do an ombré. Although she was not yet at the stage where she can do anything other than all over color, the supervisor was nice enough to say that if she could find someone above her in the program that was not busy, she could act as an assistant to her. So she did… and she got to learn how to do it, I got an awesome color and everyone was happy. My hair turned out really well. I made a new friend too :)
I think if you have an open mind and are not afraid of being adventurous, come here. No one said you had to ask for something drastic. The salon was really nice, very modern and there were a lot of students just hanging out and practicing looks. I went on a weekday so it was pretty dead, but I hear it gets busy on the weekend.
And above all, ask for Sarah. She’s awesome!

I should have known we were in trouble from the phone call I made to make the appointment. I called and was put on hold for three minutes. When the gal who answered the phone came back, she wasn’t actually talking to me — she kept talking to someone else in the area.
We showed up for our appointment and the «receptionist» was on the phone and didn’t even acknowledge us coming in.
Then, the haircut. My daughters haircut took 2 hours…2 hours??? She had previously bleached tips and we asked for those to be cut off. They weren’t. Not only that, but she asked for her bangs to be diagonal, and they were cut straight across — if you can call it that. I actually had to fix it when we came home.
When we went to check out, the «receptionist» was talking to 4 employees/​students of the school and again didn’t even acknowledge we were there.
We paid and left. My daughter actually cried because of the bad haircut.
Between the bad cut and the way I was treated over the phone and at the front desk, we will not be back.

I absolutely loved the haircut and color I received from graduating student Eliazar. He did an excellent job of listening to my needs and concerns and coaching me on continuing maintenance, as well as styling tips and easy DIY techniques.
I have already recommended T&G to a friend who got a great perm by Steph P. and I will definitely be back! The turn-​around time did take a little longer, which should be expected as it is a school, after all. As long as you expect to spend a little extra time, you should definitely be pleased with your experience — I know I was!

I have been going to this beauty college since it got started in this neighborhood. Despite the ever-​changing corps of students, I usually have come out with a nice men’s haircut. Now, most beauty schools put only the most experienced student in charge of a cut.
Not so at Toni & Guy, where even new students may be assigned to you. I once sat for 2.5 hours in the chair while a timid student ‘trimmed’ with scissors a millimeter at a time. And during the last two cuts I had a total neophyte work on what is left of my hair. Last week the young lady didn’t even know how to hold the scissors! Cripes! Fortunately, the more senior student finished the job, but not until I had to encourage her to trim more here and blend there. Almost 2 hours later I had a decent cut, but at what loss of trust. I hope the management takes note and lets only experienced students handle customers solo. Any men’s cut should take no more than an hour — anything more is irritating to those of us who have better things to do than guide a novice barber along.
