Sherman Oaks Dentistry – Harold Perlaza, DDS

I just got home after my third or fourth visit with Dr. Perlaza and I was again reaffirmed of my trust in my dentist and the whole staff behind him.
The facility is very modern and always clean. His photography on the walls is amazing!
Natalia, I’m not sure of her exact position, is very friendly and worked hard to find me an appointment for my hectic and unstable work schedule. Every time they had a cancellation or an open space she’d call me and let me know until we finally were able to schedule something.
I had to take my three year old daughter with me to my appointment and she wasn’t able to stay in the room while I had my X-​rays done. Natalia went out of her way to take care of my daughter for about ten minutes until I was done. That’s awesome — how many people can say that about their dentist staff!!!
Kim, the lady that actually cleans my teeth was awesome! She was friendly and very professional. She kept me up with exactly what she was doing to my teeth during the whole procedure.
And of of course, Dr Perlaza always professional and curtious.
I’m very glad to have Sherman Oaks Dentistry as the people in charge of keeping my smile looking great and most importantly keeping a smile on my face! :D

Although he is a skilled dentist the practices of this facility (UCLA/​Medical Plaza), when it comes to billing, are less than reliable. I have been going here for almost 3 years because of a recommendation and I was told by the facility they took my dental plan. What they didn’t tell me is that they’re in the extended network, not the actual network and would cost more for work. Cleanings however, were always covered so I didn’t know until I needed a crown reattached. They told me it was fully covered and let me walk out without paying but then I received a bill a week later because my insurance didn’t cover their cost. My insurance told me he should have told me he was extended network so I switched dentists after that. Prior to finding this out my husband went in for a regular bi-​annual cleaning. Now suddenly I am being charged over $ 100 for his regular cleaning that is supposed to be (and always has been) fully covered. I am trying to call their billing department but no one picks up and so far no one has returned my message. I’m very disappointed with this place. Basically if you go here don’t trust them to know if you are covered, they will say you are when you are not. Then you’ll have work done and they’ll bill you after the fact. Call your provided directly for every procedure, even cleanings.

I went through a few Dentists when I moved to S. CA. I was happy when my friend referred me to Dr. Perlaza. He gives the best anesthetic! This is coming from a chicken. He has a nice, clean, modern office. Great hygienists. The front desk can be a little pushy with getting you to schedule work needed but it’s part of their job. It was a great find!

I went to see Dr. Perlaza. He was very knowledgeable and took very good care of me as well as his staff.

I’ve been going to Sherman oaks dentistry for 7 years. Dr. Perlaza is a great dentist, he takes the time to explain any treatment that I may need and makes sure all my questions are answered before I leave the office.

Everyone is always very friendly and welcoming. All procedures are explained fully. They are very consciencious and make sure all procedures are as painless as possible.

I’ve only been coming here for about a year, but am so happy to have found my ‘forever dentist’. I dont feel pushed into anything, and enjoy the full explanation of my teeth’s health, and what my options are to best take care of them. Cynthia has been doing a great job, and makes just the right amount of conversation. Dr Perlaza has been thorough, and even offered to take a look at my baby’s teeth during my check up at no charge, as I had some concerns. They were also so kind to let my baby sit on my lap during my cleaning, since he wasnt feeling well.

The staff at Dr. Perlaza’s office is always so nice and great! Cynthia (one of the dental hygienists) is so thorough, gentle and sweet! Always enjoy going to see her! Dr. Perlaza is also fantastic. I love seeing the photographs and videos he has all over the office about his adventures!

I’m so glad I found Dr. Perlaza’s offices when we moved into the area. It’s hard to say who amongst all of the employees is best because everybody is so welcoming. Dr. Perlaza himself is awesome and it’s always great to hear about his adventures he’s been on. I meet Paola for all of my appointments and she’s amazing! I never thought I would say this, but I actually enjoy going to the dentist!!!

Although going to the dentist is one of my least favorite things, Dr. Perlaza and his staff make it a pleasant experience. Everyone in the office is friendly and professional, and watching videos from Dr. P’s incredible vacations during my cleanings are always a fun little escape from reality.

Dr. Perlaza and his staff came enthusiastically recommended by not one… not two… but THREE of my colleagues! From the minute I walked in, I felt like a welcome guest. The entire staff is, across the board, friendly, patient, gentle, and professional. A truly first-​rate experience– and I say this as someone who would generally rather set my head on fire than go to the dentist! No pain or anxiety anymore!

This was my second time visiting Dr Perlaza. His front office staff were friendly and offered water during my very short wait. The hygienist was very prompt to bring me back for my cleaning. She was careful and explained what she was doing each step of the way. She checked in with me regularly to make sure I was okay. I never enjoy the scraping part but she was gentle and made it easy! She offered tips for flossing and brushing to help prevent wear I’ve been causing to my gums by brushing to hard. Dr Perlaza was great. He did a thorough exam of my teeth, gums, and tongue. I like that he said the results of each part of the exam aloud so I knew what was going on. He then explained the findings after the exam. After my first visit, I knew I liked this dental practice, but after an equally good experience the second time, I am certain I will stay with Dr Perlaza.

I have been seeing Dr. Perlaza for 7 years now. When I moved to LA, I avoided going to the dentist for 2 years because of my anxiety when I’m having anything dental done. One day my dog knocked me over on a walk resulting in 2 fractured teeth. Dr. Perlaza saw me the day of the incident and immediately started the work on my 2 crowns.
I have since moved 35 miles away from the office, but I continue to drive in LA traffic to keep Dr. Perlaza as my dentist. Besides my cleanings, a filling or two and the two crowns, I have also done Clear Correct (like Invaslign). Clear Correct was close to the same price as braces and such an easy thing to do. I highly recommend anyone who needs braces to go this route. I had very few appointments throughout the process. Even when I told people I was wearing them, they still could not tell. I had a few teeth that needed a lot of correction. I had moment of discomfort, but I never had «pain» or had altered my eating habits. The whole process really was easy!
All the staff is nice and on top of things. The staff remembers me and is personable. Each exam chair has it’s own TV with cable and headphones for distraction. There are also videos to help distract from the dentil work.
Lastly, I have referred a good friend for an extraction and implant. She was very pleased with her experience and continues to use the office for her additional needs. My husband also switched dentists and is happy his care.

I have been going to Dr. Perlaza for a couple of years now. I can say from my own experience that his staff is phenomenal and that every time I drive out there they take care of anything I have. Dr. Perlaza is nothing short of professional and I continue to recommend him to friends and family who live up to an hour away from his office. Absolutely one of the best dentists we have out here!

In all fairness, the support staff here are decent.
Nutshell summary. In February 2014, I took my wife in to have her tooth examined. She’d previously had a root canal done on it. Harold Perlaza was unable to determine what the problem was, so he referred us to a specialist. When we met the specialist, he seemed uncomfortable with communication, uninformed, and vague. Instead of explanation, he pointed me to a pamphlet about root canal retreatments. His awkward mannerisms just didn’t encourage our confidence, so we were forced to find our own endodontist, who said we didn’t need any root canal retreatment. He wrote us a mouthwash prescription, which resolved the problem.
Fast forward to April 2015. My wife’s gums near the same tooth became inflamed. We returned to Harold for advice. Upon reading the case history, he immediately became irritated and rude. He seemed resentful that we didn’t use his specialist last year. When I curiously asked to understand what was going on in my wife’s gums, he provided no explanation, although his temper was stoked even further. He proceeded to trot out fantastic claims that, unless we return to his specialist, my wife’s cheek would «puff up to baseball size and she would lose her teeth». He also felt it necessary to add, «And that’s not my problem.» His claims have been proven to be unkind, unprofessional, and utterly false. We lost our trust in him and won’t be returning.

In response to your comment, Harold, you don’t seem to be able to express your disagreement in a controlled, professional, or well-​articulated manner.
Your claim that my wife «insisted» on anything is nonsense. She politely asked about mouthwash as a temporary comfort for that day, and that was long after you had already become unpleasant. Why would a patient be in a position to insist on anything? We simply expected civil behavior.

My first rating of a dentist. First off, like many, I am deadly afraid of the dentist. I am 24 years old and my gums are receding (YAY ME, not). After seeing an orthodontist, I was told to make an appointment with a periodontist. I made a few appointments and was told I need gum grafting surgery ASAP. I went to Dr. Perlaza for a final consultation, he told me that he in FACT would not refer me to surgery. #WINNING.
Well my happy story doesn’t end that happy. I went to his office again to see the periodontist on site and she told me I do need gum grafting. I think every periodontist at this point would just say I need it. I wanted honesty though and if my gum recession isn’t horrible I rather put off the gum grafting and see if I could maybe heal it myself.
Dr. Perlaza was really honest, and that is why I chose his opinion over everyone else’s.
The staff was amazing, they all greeted me. Literally, I met everyone that day.
The office is super clean and has coffee and water :)
The downside is that the procedures are really pricey, I guess you get what you pay for, or however that saying goes.
I put off getting a crown because it was almost $ 1000, with my insurance…
All in all, this is a fantastic place to go! Highly recommend.

Dr Perlaza and his team are the best! Dr. P has been our family dentist since 2004. My parents, who live in Sweden, also visit him for dental care when they come to visit us in LA!
I first came to Dr. P because I needed help fixing an awful and uncomfortable crown done by another dentist. Dr. P fixed all the mess the other dentist had made. He is really fussy about his work and he won’t be satisfied until everything is perfect.

I visited Dr. Perlaza and his staff today for a quick exam, and feel like I’ve finally found a really, really good dentist! They gave me a tour of the office, which is clean, bright, and comfortable, and then performed an extremely detailed exam, much more than I would have expected. Everything was explained to me clearly and in as much detail as I asked for, the mood was light and honest, and I just really enjoyed meeting Dr. Perlaza, a good vibe! As you will see from the amazing photos (all his) from around the world, he is a traveler and an artist.
Even better, when I had to call in multiple times to change, change again, and re-​change my appointments, they were extremely understanding and patient. Thanks for bearing with my lack of organization and inability to schedule! Good people all around, highly recommended!
