Chuck Sloan and Associates

It is weird to think that here we are in 2016 gearing up for tax season and I’m EXCITED to have them done. Why? Because this will be my 3^rd year at CHUCK SLOAN AND ASSOCIATES and hopefully with my same preparer, Brice Williams (he’s a gem!). All these guys are AMAZING and make the process SO EASY to understand. I leave feeling confident that not only am I getting a healthy return back, I did it on the up & up and by the book. Can’t wait to see you guys for my 3^rd go around! HAPPY TAX PREPARING!

After many years of trying to navigate «taxtime» on our own, my husband and I finally broke down and took the advice of (many) friends — and we went to Chuck Sloan. It was the smartest decision we’ve ever made in regard to our taxes, and going forward we are armed with so much great information about making even smarter decisions in the future. Taxes can get extremely complicated with two performer/​teachers with lots of independent work and side gigs. Great service that saw me get 100% of my return back! I was referred here by a friend who raved about Brice, and now I’m the one passing on his details to all of my friends. With only a week until the tax deadline, he saw me after hours, and made everything seem easy — even when dealing with multiple sources of income, including international earnings.

I don’t really write Unilocal reviews because I’m creeped out by people who have time for this stuff, but I had to write one for Chuck Sloan and Associates. I’ve gotten my taxes done two years in a row by, my girl, Jordana. Pretty sure she’d be pleased I called her my girl. I digress. She is extremely efficient and easy to work with. The first year I got them done, she gave me so much valuable information that I was able to fill out my forms and keep track so much better this year. I highly recommend using CS&A for your accounting needs.

My wife and I went to Chuck Sloan’s for the first time last night — and it will not be our last time. They were terrific! We were set up with Marta Sullivan — who rocks! She’s nice, makes you feel comfortable, and knows her stuff. We were done a few minutes earlier than we had thought — and the price was excellent. If you work in show business in particular, this is the place for you. And try to book Marta — you won’t be sorry.

I wouldn’t use anyone but Chuck Sloan. I have been behind on my taxes and he has helped me to do multiple years. He is very patient and works to help you itemize every possible deduction for your taxes. He takes what is a generally stressful situation and eases your nerves. He gives you a Tax Packet to have prepared before you come so it makes it all a breeze if you do the work before you come. He is knowledgeable and available to answer any questions you may have along the way. I have had my share of questions. I seriously appreciate the service he provides and how he provides it. Again, wouldn’t dream of going elsewhere.

I’m gonna keep this short and sweet. Jordana Capra at Chuck Sloan is simply the very best. As a performer, getting taxes is done is kind of like watching someone grade your test scores and waiting for your test results from a doctor’s physical all at the same time. However, Jordana handled me with kid gloves and had no judgements about anything. She is a performer herself and therefore «gets it». She explains things in detail so I no longer am in the dark about how I should properly handle my business throughout the year. On top of it all, she got me terrific return! I’m officially a client… and a fan. PS — There’s also a funny guy named «Chuck» there who is a lot of fun. ;)

No kidding these people are really great. Very supportive to artists with our stack of receipts and tax forms. Highly recommended.

I went into this place for the first time to get my taxes done. I’m an actress and I had some actor friends recommend this place. I was seen by Brice Williams. Brice is also an actor and helped me come up with ways to better organize receipts and expenses that will make the process next year easier for me. He also saw me early at 8am which made it less stressful because there weren’t any people that time and he could really take the time with me. He was informative and helpful with all my tax questions. He made doing taxes not so painful. I will definitely go back to him next year!

Marta has literally saved the day for my interior design business. I’ve been in my line of business for over 25 years and Marta Sullivan is the very first CPA who has succeeded in applying her professionalism and expertise in accounting to the actual language that I use in my day-​to-​day business. I had a huge mess after working with Jim McInerney in Studio City and Larry from ABMG in woodland hills when one of them failed to record several hearty deductions and failed to file one of my tax returns even after being compensated, and the other attempted to fix that mistake by lowering what i owed from 62k to only 6k (an awesome job in that regard), but after we agreed on a price and the work was completed, he increased the price that he originally quoted me times THREE and refused to file that return until it was paid. I was super screwed and in trouble with the FTB and IRS at that point and needed serious help fast. I had a deadline of 5 days and had to start from scratch in book keeping.
I found Chuck Sloan right here on Unilocal and was connected with Marta Sullivan who was incredibly sweet and opened to help me with my mess and work within my budget. I met with her and we immediately clicked. We spent hours in her office getting a strategy together and making sense of everything, but the time flew by as if it was minutes. Her personality and humor (especially if «comedian Chuck» is in the room with us) was outstanding and fun, and her heart is so sincere and sweet. Marta spent days at a time teaching me Quickbooks and helping me learn how to maintain records and run Profit and Loss reports on my own so that I could be a lot more self sufficient and a lot less lost and dependent, as well as fixed the previous mistakes that others had made and missed.
I am so thankful to have found a new, HONEST, and efficient tax accountant, bookkeeper and friend.
I highly recommend Chuck Slone and Marta Sullivan.
Ps. Just make sure not to wear fake eyelashes or steal his paper… they seem to be Chuck’s pet peeves and points of comedy lol

JORDANA!!! Went here for my 2012 taxes and Jordana rocked my world! She was awesome… super intelligent, super friendly, super helpful, basically A-​MAZING! Long story short, if you’re in the entertainment business, GO TO CHUCK SLOAN to get your taxes done. Your pocketbook and stress level will be happy you did. Just don’t ask for Jordana… she’s mine :)

Tax season is really what I call «Me-​and-​my-​dad-​yelling-​at-​each-​other-​season.»
My dad’s a very nice man and it’s been good of him to help me these last few years, but since moving to LA and knowing I wanted to take full advantage of working actor deductions, his and my combined knowledge of the tax code really was not going to cut it.

Y’know, I shouldn’t have even paused. It WAS fun. I was somewhat organized, so it was pretty painless. The packet they have you fill out before going in is very, very, helpful — use it! Everyone there is helpful, INCREDIBLY friendly — I think everyone who works there works as an actor, too, and they really get it.
So, I highly rate it.
ps — my return is pretty dismal. Well, at least I don’t have to pay in. But still. I was hoping for more. AND YET STILL THIS WAS A FIVE STAR EXPERIENCE! So… just…yes. Use them.

Upon first moving to LA in the fall of 2007, the spring sprang on me and before i knew it… TAX TIME! People say there are only 2 certainties in life…1. Death… and, yes…2. TAXES. I was referred to Chuck Sloan and his amazing Associates and fell in love. I just completed my 4^th year in a row with them and I have never been dissatisfied. The downloadable packet makes it a «color by numbers» scheme… and being a dancer, I count to 8… then start over. So, if I can understand it… truly anyone can.
The last 2 years for me has allowed me the honor of working with Ronald Steadman… an extremely intelligent, warm, outspoken and, just a kind human being. Seriously, how many Tax Preparers/​Accountants have you ever sat with while working on your papers and they show you the most awesome videos of their beautiful 2-​year old? Those are the relationships you form at Chuck Sloan.
I’m lucky to know ‘em.

PROLOGUE:

STORYLINE:
I may look smart to the naked eye, but that’s all an illusion. Grateful for living in L.A. where you can pretend to be something you’re not. Enter Chuck Sloan and Associates.
My math skills are terrible. I don’t do numbers. Thank goodness The Heroine does.
This is my second year having my taxes done by CSA and the same preparer; the lovely Jordana (aka, The Heroine). I almost debated on giving her name so she won’t be clogged with new people next year, but this is a positive review, so I might as well spread the good word.
THE PLOT THICKENS:
I kid you not when I tell you it was ‘late-​night at Chuck Sloan’ as I had a rather late evening appointment. Heck, I was all for it. The more illicit, the easier for me to understand. I hope you all know I’m partially kidding.
Who actually laughs during their tax return? I did. I never thought I could actually joke around with these people. Chuck (The Comic Relief) graced the room with his dry sense of humor, and it’s so easy to feed off. Then the massage jokes came (but I started them so that was my fault… you had to be there).
Now the truth is that I suffer throughout the year by getting as much tax taken out as I can, but the relief comes at precisely this time, when I owe nothing but Jordana. And she is well worth the money. And yes, she solely does taxes, although I’m making it sound like a side business here.
EPILOGUE: We reenact a scene from ‘The Sound of Music’ by spinning in the back parking lot (Backstory: we were simply trying to activate the security motion light so I could find my car). We then bid adieu until the next scene, which will take place approximately same time next year, as the saga continues…
