Specialties
We are a traditional Okinawan karate dojo located in Shelby, NC.
We are proud to be a member in good standing of the Shorin Ryu Shorinkan organization under the leadership of Grandmaster Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato. We believe that the traditional karate of Okinawa provides a full, comprehensive and effective program for all serious practitioners of the martial arts. While teaching the life-protection art, we also strive to instill humility, courtesy, respect, patience and self-confidence to all students. We also teach Kobudo which literally translated means «Ancient Martial Ways», is a separate martial art, but closely related to karate. Kobudo training is vitally important for many reasons. Not only does Kobudo preserve an ancient Okinawan fighting art from being eroded by time, it enhances the practitioner’s karate technique. By training in weapons the individual develops a strong mental attitude, power, speed, focus and experience the «realness» of combat through Kobudo kumite. The weapons currently being taught here are the bo, nunchaku, sai, and tonfa.
