What a welcoming salon! No fuss, no muss. I was greeted immediately when I walked in the door, and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable. Great space. I love the wash house look! Now, the reason why I was there in the first place… Dorian. My daughter is very picky about who touches her hair, so much so that she has not had a hair cut for over a year. Dorian graduated from the Paul Mitchell School(where we fell head over heels with his cutting shears ;) My daughter hated each haircut thereafter: «it’s not Dorian!»(Teenagers know what they want lol!) NOW, WALAAAH, I found him in Shelby after working the big city, he chose his hometown!(This DOESNOT hurt my feelings!) About three months ago, my daughter asked me, «Mom, will you please find him? All I want for my birthday is for Dorian to cut my hair.» That alone should speak volumes to anyone looking for the BEST stylist. So, guess what? After a bit of searching, I found him… but it will remain a secret until her birthday next month! :) So I went for an appointment instead haha! Now, even as an English teacher, I cannot think of the most appropriate and eloquent wording to share how much I love sitting in his salon chair. My hair, as Dorian refers to it, is «Leo the Lion» because my mane is so thick and out of control. Once again, I left with silky and wonderful feeling locks yesterday. Ahhh, HAIRHAPPINESS! He is truly skilled at his craft and he loves his job! Also, personality is so important, and Dorian has such a sweet spirit! He’s funny and just a huge-hearted, down-to-earth, great guy to talk with. Okay, so make an appointment. What are you waiting for? You know your hair needs him! Just don’t take my spot haha!

From the outside, Trendsetters can be a little deceiving. The large bland colored metal building makes you think furniture store or auto mechanic. The large ugly Greek statue out front is also weird — someone should accidentally hit it with their car. Inside, they’ve done a pretty cool job utilizing such an open space — it’s broken up into sections where individual stylists have their own waiting/seating areas. The salon has a modern edge and plays an eclectic, yet good blend of music. It’s not super fancy but it’s also not your local barber shop. I quickly learned that«Joey» was not in fact a woman, not that it mattered, but I do prefer female stylists. I was duped by a friend so that I would try something new. He was friendly, not overly talkative like some hair dressers can be and turned my misshapen hair into something fairly stylish. He did a thorough job at the shampoo station and took his time to cut my hair. The best part was that a wash and cut was only $ 15. You can’t beat that with a bat! They do take credit cards which I prefer over cash. He also took me as a walk in, which I really appreciated. So yes, Joey worked a little magic on my hair and I would probably let him cut it again. Good job dude!
