Mocha Maya’s

I found this gem of a coffee shop while wasting time on the West side, waiting for my hair appointment. The mocha maya was fantastic and the veggie croissant I devoured in about 3 bites. Staff was friendly and beautiful mosaic décor made for a very pleasant experience.

On an early morning I drove straight from Salem MA to have breakfast in Shelburne Falls on the way to Williamstown. I stopped here and was not disappointed. Coffee was amazing, and I really enjoyed a ham, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich on a locally created English muffin. I wish I could have hung out there longer, but the road was beckoning and I had miles to go.

So, the girl at the counter looked like she could care less about the job. We went to this being addicts of chocolate and coffee. I was psyched for this whole frozen hot chocolate with coffee thing I’ve been hearing about. They were out of that, and every other kind of frozen thing except for something with vanilla. Normally, I wouldn’t care, but she just made it sound like we were stupid for even considering it.
We had a couple mocha’s that were great, but why in 2015 are there still places that do not take credit cards? Not all of us carry a shitload of cash all the time, even travelers. So that was annoying, thankfully there was an ATM a couple stores down.
Eh.

This place does a great job with a limited space, they took out the low tables and replaced them with locally crafted bar height tables, thus makes for superb seating on live music nights. When you walk in most times you can feel the local vibe resonating between artisans and the skilled blue collar patrons. The espresso drinks are great and the pastries are tasty as well, the breakfast sandwiches speak for themselves. If you’re not looking for a pick me up, the draft beer selection is obviously thought out and always worth a taste, and then there are the bottles of local cider, or the various wines. There is something for everyone if you look.

I came in here twice over the course of two days for afternoon caffeine pick me ups.
The first day, I ordered a double espresso Machiatto — which I am accustomed to being two shots of espresso with just a small amount of foam floating on top The Barista made it this way the first day, it was strong, bold, and tasty — and so hit the spot and got my brain cells firing!
The second visit on the next day, I ordered the same. What I got was something entirely different (different Barista). Instead what I got was like a mini-​latte. Two shots of espresso and a whole lot of milk. I said something to the Barista about it. She replied something about how that is how people like them — and she would remake it. I just decided to go ahead and drink it.
They have a free WiFi network. I set up my MacBook Pro and plugged into AC and connected to their network for a bit to get some work done.
I would have given Mocha Maya’s 5 stars if they had been able to consistently execute on this beverage…

LOVE the cold-​drip iced coffee (low acid). So glad they brew organic fair trade coffee all day every day. Breakfast sandwiches are great, too! Couldn’t ask for anything more in a local coffee shop. There are frequently great musicians coming through and I always see friends there. So glad Mocha Maya’s is such a landmark in Shelburne Falls!
Also, the custom woodworking on the new table tops, by local Colin Piscioneri, is a nice touch to the chill yet artsy atmosphere.

Great little place!
I walked in looking for food, (breakfast) and only saw baked goods in the case, so I walked out again. The only other options in town are diner-​ish greasy spoons. Sigh. I decided to walk back in and order a latte, and that’s when I spied the small sign on the counter indicating that they serve breakfast sandwiches!
I had the «Chris’s Fave» and it was very good, nice and spicy, not too much food.
My only advice to the owners; you almost lost my business due to poor signage. Put your breakfast sign up where your customers can actually see it!

Has a casual coffee shop feel. Great to hang out and talk. They have great coffee. There breakfast sandwich are good. They also have good baked goods. Sometimes they have different music groups. They also have some beers on tap.

If you’re visiting Shelburne Falls, this is a must-​see break spot. Mocha Maya’s is a very cozy coffee shop with a cool atmosphere. I stop in here regularly, and every time I try to get something a little different. All of their pastries are homemade and delicious, and the drinks are perfect (The Thai iced coffee is my current favorite). The staff is always really friendly, as well.
If you want somewhere you can just chill out and be yourself to do some writing, or bring a date for a casual cup of coffee, this is the place to be.

Wow this place surprised me! I was in The area for work and had an hour or so between meetings. During that time I wanted to catch up on some email drink some coffee and have a sandwich or a salad. The town didn’t have too many options so I wondered into this low key coffee shop with even lower expectations.
First thing I asked when I walked up to the counter was if they served food. The barista gave me a list if three breakfast sandwiches. Not exactly what i was looking for at 2pm for lunch but I went with it. Man I am glad I did! I picked one called Chris’s favorite and ordered a café americano. Words cannot even describe how fantastic this sandwich was. It had eggs, cheese and ham (like any other breakfast sandwich) but it also had a black bean spread, some veggies and other elements of decliosuness. The eggs and cheese were clearly fresh and gourmet. Yum! I wanted to order another but that might have been weird.
Go there, try it, you’ll see!
On another note the Internet was fast and the coffee was hot.

Stopped in for a chai and watched local traffic and leaves blowing around in the street out front. Our go-​to coffee joint when we pass through town…

Maya’s serves as the Central Perk, Bull & Finch, and Rick’s Café Américain of Shelburne Falls. Coffee shop by day, nightclub and wine bar by night, MM looks to be the most hapnin place on the «Drive».
I can’t speak for the nightlife, but the café was great. It’s like a comfy reading room that serves strong espresso and refreshing smoothies. I didn’t try any of the solid food, but there was a Starbucks-​comparable selection of pastries on display and an advertisement for farm-​fresh breakfast sandwiches.
The space itself is roomy, painted blood red, and scattered with paintings, sofas, reading material, and nice neighbors. A member of my party stepped out for a smoke and returned with a new friend (no sexual connotation there, unless you count the budding bromance). We liked it so much we visited twice in as many days.

This is a great place for live music, especially on a Friday or Saturday evening, even Sunday morning.
If you’re going for the Internet connection, I find it frustrating and hit or miss. Baked goods are just so so. If they improved the Internet connection, I’d give it more stars. Right now I’m too frustrated about the Internet to say more about the music.

Great place to go and hang out! Live music, beer and wine license, good coffee, good smoothies, good pastries! There really isn’t anything else you need to know.

Great place to get coffee in Shelburne Falls!!! I love their cold water extract iced coffee. It really packs a punch that lasts through the day!
One star missing because there are not enough food options. Would love something a little more substantial then just baked items and bagels.

Ok coffee shop, lousy selection of pastries, very noisy when using their blender. Good music, no atmosphere. Uncomfortable, they still use the furniture from when it was a Subway shop. They have a beer and wine license, but I don’t want alcohol in a coffee shop. The only advantage Mocha Maya’s has is that it is the only coffee shop in town. Coffee Roasters on the Mohawk Trail is a much better bet.

Good coffee, really slow service (but hey, I’d be slower, probably, and scalding customers). Partner threw away the bottom of a mocha, said it was all syrup, but me, I liked it. Unfortunately there were loud, annoying patrons hanging, spouting off at podium decibel levels, but ah well, then you walk down and gaze at the potholes or walk across the bridge of flowers.

Mocha Maya’s is to coffeehouses what the Bull and Finch Pub in «Cheers» was, allegedly, to bars: the place where everybody knows your name. It does an excellent job at everything that a coffeehouse is supposed to do: coffee and espresso beverages, baked goods, a wide variety of teas, and a great selection of the cold stuff (you can do a whole lot worse than a lemonade slushy or a frozen hot chocolate on a hot summer day). It’s got free wifi and a small but eclectic selection of books. It has entertainment, from nationally known musical acts to poetry readings to a drop-​in Celtic jam on Sundays.
But where Mocha Maya’s really excels is the vibe. It’s a nerve center for people who use Mocha Maya’s to connect in all kinds of ways. On any given day, you may see a landscaper come in looking for coffee and a couple of guys to work a job for him, a crowd of people just come from a yoga class sitting down for a chat, a couple of telecommuting professionals collaborating on a project, or friends and acquaintances running into each other and stopping to talk. Visitors may be surprised at how easily they’re drawn into conversation with complete strangers, and end up leaving Mocha Maya’s with much more than the coffee that they came in for. If you’re visiting the area and aren’t sure what you want to do, just go to Mocha Maya’s and ask, «What’s fun to do around here?» You’ll get plenty of opinions, directions and advice on the area’s best — which definitely includes Mocha Maya’s.

Despite their independently roasted, Fair Trade certified, and Kosher coffee, I don’t drink the Joe so ordered a smoothie during a recent pit stop off Route 2 in western Massachusetts.
The 100% fruit and non-​dairy smoothie was delicious and exactly what I needed for the hot summer’s day.
Evident by their MySpace page linked above, Mocha Maya’s is home to numerous musicians who play during nights or weekend afternoons. There is definitely enough space, and it’s homey space that you would feel comfortable socializing with friends or people watching while enjoying your drink and noshing on a baked good, too.
