The grapes were on sale and they are wonderful. Snappy and flavorful for this time of year. Primrose Bacon is on sale so we stocked up. Milk is a great price. We will go back.

I love Price Rite. I think every Price Rite has the best fruit and veggies around, at unbelievable low prices. Not organic, but personally, I don’t care most of the time. Occasionally I would say the fruit can be over-ripe…a few rotten ones… but most are fine, and even better, actually, because they are ripe, not hard and tasteless like the big grocery chains’ stuff. And conventional waxed fruits,(apples, pears, etc)…are waxy, no matter where you buy them. During the fall they have 4’x 4′ boxes loaded with fresh apples that are mostly not waxed, and in every variety you’d find, or more, at Whole Foods. Conventional cherries at Price Rite were 1.99/lb at Price Rite today, and 3.99/lb at Whole Foods… for the same non-organic cherries. It’s definitely a no-frills shopping experience, but I’ve never been to a store that was dirty, with opened food bags, etc. I’ve been to «SHOPRITE» in RI, and those are pretty gross. I don’t like Aldi’s either. Depending on what Price Rite store you go to, there people who are clearly pinching every penny, definitely working class, often not from this country. It’s a Walmart crowd. But I’ll take it. Limes right now are 10 for $ 1. Crazy. Jalapenos, serrano, habenero chills for under $ 2 for a tray of them… more than i ever need. Scallions bunches of 2/$ 1. I try to go here for all my fruit and veggies. And different stuff like tomatillos, papaya, chayote, nopales, etc. The dried spices are also really cheap, and good. They sell name-brand pastas, like Mueller and Colavita… for about 50 cents a box/bag. Good Spanish and Portuguese olives, olive oil, specialty foods. I don’t buy meat from Price Rite. I tried bologna once, for my dog, and she wouldn’t touch it. It was pretty gross… I’ve also bought chicken here for her, and it is often smelly w/that sort of liquifying skin and fat on it. I recommend avoiding all meat here, but that’s me. My two favorite stores are this one, and the one of rte 44 just over the East Providence line in Seekonk. The Warwick store is good too, just far from me, and a little big, for my taste. A new one just opened in Johnston and I am anxious to check that one out too, and I’m hoping they will have lots of specialty italian items!

I initially started coming here because my household goes through 3 gallons of milk a week and Stop & Shop’s milk prices were starting to creep closer and closer to $ 4/galllon. I had visited this Price Rite after a road race in Seekonk and was very impressed with their prices(by the way: gallon of milk at Price Rite is $ 2.99). I now do the bulk of my grocery shopping here and have seen how much farther my dollar stretches here vs Stop & Shop. Not the fanciest grocery store, I’ll admit, but it’s not as «vile» as Mr. Eric lead on in his… um…descriptive…review. The produce will not be the shiniest and blemish free of what other stores offer, but that’s the whole point of discount grocers. Never have I encountered a truly bad piece of produce. There is a surprising amount of name brand items in the aisles but they won’t have exactly everything you are looking for(example they oddly have Cabot, Chobani, and Dannon yougurt but only have Price Rite brand cream cheese). The branded items are significantly cheaper than what you would find at a conventional grocery store, which is a big score, but their house label items are even cheaper. I appreciate the fact that they have lots of Spanish and Portuguese specific food items, too. There’s also some hidden gems: bags of nuts, quinoa, dried fruit, and trail mixes at reasonable prices, bananas $.49/lb, ridiculously low priced laundry detergent, veggie dogs, boxes of Saugys, and grass fed beef to name a few of my discoveries. This location is always extremely busy, but it does seem to have some off peak hours. Bring a quarter for the cart and your own bags unless you want to pay for them at the register. Only docking a star because I wish they would have more lanes open when it’s so busy.

Thank God for Price Rite. Saving some extra cash a week on some food is great. The store is clean, produce is fresh & the prices can’t be beat.

I’ve just moved to the Providence, RI area. Before we lived here, though, we used to come to RI all the time to take care of my father-in-law, which included doing his shopping while we were in town. We tried probably every supermarket, specialty store, and fruit market in the surrounding area. Once we found PriceRite we stopped looking. When I mentioned missing my hometown, my husband said, «Look on the bright side. You get to shop at PriceRite every week, now.» And I do. Some(less intelligent) people around here sneer at this store because they think that it’s not a high-status place to shop. However, they have much better produce than either Stop & Shop or Shaw’s, for much less money. You might find better at Shore’s or Eastside Marketplace, but not without paying at least twice as much. As far as regular groceries, everything that they have is comparable quality to regular grocery stores but for half the price or less. I also find that the generics here are of exceptionally high quality. I still go to Stop & Shop to pick up sale items and fat-free stuff for my father-in-law, and since PriceRite only carries their generic brand of milk, I buy Garelick milk at other supermarkets, but I do the bulk of my shopping here. Every time the cashier rings up the price, I say«Wow.» It’s usually much less than I expect. Oh, and bring your own bags, or else scam some empty boxes from inside the store, because they charge for bags, and you have to bag the groceries yourself.

Disgusting. Vile. Awful. These are some words that may cross your mind. Produce dept. Price Rite has produce other grocers would reject. Honestly the stuff looks like it came out of a dumpster. I’ve seen bugs crawling in the bins, completely rotted fruits and vegetables, and some produce covered with almost a quarter inch of wax. The items I’ve eaten that weren’t rotten were either tasteless, or ‘off’. I shiver to think how much pesticide and anti-spoilage chemicals have been pumped into that stuff. The rest of the store… Torn and opened packages. Damaged products Filthy floors, dirty shelves. Every surface makes my skin crawl. What really saddens me is the desperation in the shopper’s eyes. There are poor people in the world and there are people so desperate to save a nickel that it drives them to self-degradation. Save you money somewhere else, this is stuff you’re willfully putting into your body. Think about that.
