Select Express

This company is the default delivery service for some flooring I purchased from Build Direct. When I found out who was going to deliver it, I wanted more info so I looked them up online and found the Unilocal reviews. Needless to say, after reading so many negative reviews, I expected the worst. But my experience with the Chicago area delivery was excellent. They called me several days in advance, again the day before the delivery, and again when they were 15 minutes away. They arrived within the 4 hour window. The delivery guys, Dave and Eric, were personable and professional. (And stronger than they look.) They went above and beyond my expectations as far as delivering the product.

Worst delivery company I have ever experienced. I would recommend World Plus Market change their standard delivery company. First they wasted 4 hours on a Friday, when they chose not to tell me they could not find my package at the store. They figured the store would call me. Then when the store promised free delivery on Monday, the driver Mino called me and told me he would be there in half an hour. An hour later I called them and they were delayed and said half an hour more. Another hour later and they said– well the delivery is between 2 – 6:00 so technically they were still on time. So much for the half hour call ahead. It is at their discretion and may not happen. Their dispatcher said as much and did not believe that the driver would tell me that. They get 0 stars for lying and service. At the end of the day at 7:30 the package got delivered. How do you stay in business and more over live with your self for doing such poor service.

I ordered a 7 foot tall mirror from Home Goods and paid for a 2-​man delivery job. I inspected the mirror for any damage in store and all the major corners of the mirror were fine. However, when the item was delivered, only ONE person carried it up to the apt (via elevator) and in the process, banged the mirror around all over the place. He clearly couldn’t carry the heavy piece by himself, and I had specifically paid for two people.
I asked why there was only one person, and the delivery man said that the other guy needed to stay with the car. Now, that smacks of misleading delivery service. If one person needs to man the car, then they should have 2 people actually carrying and delivering an item which is too heavy for just one person.
Obviously this one guy could not carry the furniture alone… and even demanded that I help him carry it. That’s fine, but he completely damaged the mirror in transit. One corner was broken off and totally destroyed. Even worse, he tried to claim it was already broken in the store — which I knew it wasn’t because I completely inspected the item before purchasing. Complete bogus. Don’t damage my item and then try to claim you didn’t do it.
Lousy company. Home Goods — take note that this delivery company is ruining your otherwise great brand.

Wish I had read the reviews before I used these guys.
I purchased furniture and couldn’t get a delivery spot on the weekend for 3 weeks because they don’t work Sundays.
I had a delivery scheduled from 11 – 3. Called at 1 to get an eta and was told they will be there between 1 – 3. Then got an attitude and the guy basically hung up.

Sad, but my items in the package came late and BROKEN!!!
First of all they were sooo late, and when I called that the item is broken who is going to take responsibility, the answer was, «call the store because I did not open the box…»,
Is that the only way an item can get damaged or broken that you open the box and smash it?
Guess the delivery guy just did not care enough to read the bigass FRAGILE sticker on the box, since he was late anyway.

I wanted to give them zero stars. Yeah zip, zero, zilch but Unilocal made me pick a star. Do NOT use this service. They are the worst! I took a ½ day off from work so I could be home in time to accept a 3pm delivery (this is the delivery service Home Goods uses). They showed up at 10am and were perplexed as to why I wasn’t there. Long story short, if it wasn’t for the fact that my mom was able to be at my house early I would have missed the second delivery.
I called them several times and wanted to speak with a manager or supervisor and was never able to. They had always «just left». I was put on hold time and again Suffice it to say they are the worst! Do not use them.

The worst delivery experience ever. I had this company pick up a desk that was purchased as a floor model from a very high end furniture store. They lifted the desk by its top and damaged it fairly significantly. I filed a claim, but rather than suggesting that we work together for a repair, I said that I would prefer that they simply pay to have someone else deliver the desk. It would have been a whopping $ 120 gesture for a severely damaged $ 4,000 desk. They came back and said they would split the delivery because there was no proof that they damaged the desk – that it could’ve been damaged while on the show room floor. Did I mention that I had taken «before» photos to send to someone before purchasing the desk – just the night before? In spite of photo evidence, they maintained that, within 24 hours of pick up, someone at the store could’ve damaged it. Since the photos also revealed that it was heavily merchandised with books and breakable items, that would’ve meant removing about a dozen items from the desk, moving it to an unknown location, moving the desk back into the exact same location, placing the decorations in the precise dust outlines where they were before. Absurd. In the end, I told them to forget about the $ 60, and I intended to pursue greater damages in small claims court. I haven’t had time to pursue it, but I certainly hope my tale will dissuade anyone from using them. Oh, and one more quick anecdote that reflects upon their customer service: they called me at the store after damaging the desk to see if I still wanted it delivered. I asked them to wait fifteen minutes for my arrival and inspection, and they wouldn’t. When I called the customer service hotline to pursue a refund on the delivery fee, the telephone operator said, «Well, sir, when we attempt delivery – like when no one is home – we still must pay the driver.» Wait a minute: you came, you damaged my $ 4,000 desk, you left without delivering it, and you’re suggesting I should pay you for that? Give me a break. Avoid at all costs.

This is the absolute worst experience with a delivery company I have encountered. Being a military brat an moving every 4 years seen a lot and never dealt with such condescending an rude people with no regards for your time and the irony is your paying them. What a joke!!! The sad part is all my favorite places to shop use them world markets, Pier One, Crate an Barrel, and Pottery Barn you think with all the movers they would give some local mover the contract not someone from New York. I just purchased a dining table from cost plus and just like everyone’s stories on Unilocal they changed windows didn’t“t show no call an wanted to reschedule next week an it was on their books for a week before they had to deliver. Now I do not believe a word they said basically they told me my dog ate my homework BS!!! World markets is very helpful an I believe frustrated with them also. The manager is working hard to get us delivery before next week. The moral to this story is you don“t always get what you pay for and please all you companies think of your customers we don’t want a nightmare when purchasing a big item help us to have a positive experience it makes me think twice about purchasing any big item because the aggravation is not worth all the trouble to get a table or couch or whatever you purchased. A new last but not least select express you are in the wrong business maybe join the circus I think you fit right in. I can“t believe I had to give you one star you don“t deserve it

Don’t use these guys. I took a ½ day off of work and then they missed their 4 hour delivery window by an hour and a half, and failed to deliver all the items purchased at World Market (they left a box at the store — had to wait another couple days for that one). I called to request a discount or hey, at least a little concern over the screw-​up.. .only to be told they delivered, not their fault. Apparently, I should just deal with it.
Delivery was supposed to be between 4 – 8 pm. I took off a ½ day of work to meet the delivery. 7:10 pm: Dispatch called to say they were running an hour late and would be there closer to 8:20 pm. Ok, thanks for calling. 8:45 pm: Still nothing. This time I call. Surprise from the operator «they haven’t delivered yet?» Ahh, no. Let me check on them. (Several minutes on hold.) The driver is only 10 minutes away. Ok. 9:10: They finally show up. The delivery guys were pretty great.. .though they missed delivering all the items I ordered (World Market pointed fingers at Express). Two stars only because the delivery guys were professional.
I spoke to a manager today who pawned me off on Steve (from other posts). I’m less than optimistic for that call based on other reviewers. Updates to follow.

I previously posted a poor review of Select Express. I received very poor service on a delivery from Crate and Barrel. They offered me a 30% refund.
However, today I received a call from their Customer Service Department. The representative was very apologetic and immediately agreed to reverse 100% of all delivery charges. That was EXCELLENT customer service.
Select Express contracts with local independent delivery personel. I understand that mistakes can happen. I appreciate when a company acknowledges their mistake and make it right.

I ordered furniture from wholesale liquidators which was delivered by select express. When the furniture delivery men came, they refused to give me time to remove plastic and inspect the furniture before signing their paper, threatened to take it back if i didn’t sign, and became very aggressive and hostile towards me. I am a small frame female and was alone at that time in the apartment. I felt so threatened I was forced to call security on them only after which the situation began to defuse.
I ADVISE ANYONE NOT TO USE THEIR SERVICES

What a Mismanaged Company!
Select Express has an arrangement with the Big Lots Furniture Store in Michigan City, Indiana to deliver pieces as a third party. After purchasing a sofa, love seat, and recliner, I called Select Express for delivery services. After paying $ 159 by credit card, they gave me a next day delivery time of between 12 – 4. At 3:30 the next day, I called the tracking service when after 15 minutes on various holds, I was told that the truck didn’t schedule me… there was a communications problem, etc. etc. I was given a delivery date the following week, and the agent, who was very apologetic, said that he would make sure that I would be treated right, and he gave me a delivery window of 11 – 3. That following week, I called at 11 just to make sure I was scheduled. After another 15 minutes or so of being put on hold, the agent told me that the truck was behind schedule 3 hours, and would I wait, or would I like to reschedule for the following wee… I had already taken off work, so I advised them to deliver it. They said the truck should be at my home before 6pm, so I waited. At 5:45 I called tracking again; another 15 minutes on hold… and this time the agent said that the truck had no record of my delivery, and would I like to reschedule the following week! I could not believe it and this evening I went back to the store to tell them that Select Express was the worst… and they agreed with me. The store manager gave me the card of an independent moving service. I immediately called and hopefully I will have my furniture tomorrow morning for about ²⁄₃ the price of Select Express. Avoid Select Express at all costs!

If I could give Select Express zero stars I would…
I decided to use Select Express after purchasing a sofa and love seat from a local Big Lots store– this is the delivery company they used, however I wish I had read all the negative reviews on here prior because I absolutely would have done things differently. My experience was no exception. PLEASE do yourself a favor, and do not even consider this company!
My delivery was originally scheduled for Friday 7/​18, and I was called the night before to let me know they had to reschedule because they wouldn’t have a driver available that day. Inconvenient since I had scheduled this around time off from work, but the next available slot was Saturday ⁷⁄₁₉ between 11:00 — 3:00, which I agreed to.
Around 2:00 on Saturday I called for an ETA and I was told I could expect my delivery towards the end of my 11:00 — 3:00 window, but was assured that the driver was running on time. At 3:30 I was phoned by Customer Service informing me that the driver was running late– was about an hour away, but still had to stop at Big Lots to pick up my furniture. 6:00 rolls around, and still no furniture and no phone call. I call customer service and am told they are unable to get ahold of the driver and he’s not answering his phone. Not very reassuring! They said they would continue trying to reach the driver and call me when they had word of how close he was. I give it another 45 mins before I call back again. The representative put me on hold and tried to reach the driver once again. She came back and told me the driver was at my apartment. I go outside to meet him, thinking this is the end of an extremely frustrating afternoon– not even close! The delivery truck is nowhere in sight, yet the woman on the phone is insisting he is at my apartment. I ask if I can be transferred to the driver to speak with him directly, and she tells me that is not possible. At this point it’s approaching 7:30 and I have waited for TWICE as long as my scheduled delivery window. I’m offered 30% off, and shortly after I get off the phone around 8:00 I get another phone call from the driver and this time they actually are at my apartment. However the moving van arrived on a tow truck. Apparently it got pulled over en route to my apartment for being unregistered!!! What sort of moving company fails to keep their vehicles registration up to date? Obviously not a very reputable one! The movers weren’t overly apologetic, but managed to get my sofa and love seat into my apartment successfully.
This morning I called Select Express to speak with a manager about getting my expenses refunded. To me, a 30% discount is unacceptable when taking into consideration that I waited 9 hours when I had a scheduled window of 4 hours. During those 9 hours there was extremely poor communication, and until my furniture actually arrived, I had serious doubts as to whether or not I would be seeing it. To make matters worse, I had to wait longer due to an illegal error on their part. I myself have worked in customer service for 10 years, and I was appalled by the response I got from a MANAGER at this company. I was told that 30% off is the best that can be done because my merchandise was delivered. I reminded her that it’s not MY fault their vehicle was not registered, and due to this «oversight» by someone at their company, it cost me valuable time. Not once did this manager apologize for my inconvenience or show any sort of empathy either. She basically kept repeating herself and saying that «30% is the best we can do» and then finally says «we are not the drivers, we’re just customer service.»…My point exactly! When I ask to speak with a manager, I expect a certain level of customer service that she did not even come close to. I informed her that there are many reviews online about Select Express and I have yet to see a single positive one, and that I will never use this company again– to which she responds «ok well i will log this.» Unbelievable.

I just got off with these jerks. The «manager» Steve or whatever his name is (recorded all conversations) was rude and did not offer another solutions. Because Home Direct USA outsourced them, I am on the phone with HDUSA because they are telling me they will leave my couch curbside. They can, and I can grantee it will stay there. I already paid to upgrade service, basically some communication was not corrected or paperwork was lost.
This company just informed me I can not pay them or their drivers. They don’t care. I will have to reschedule my delivery. No, what you will do is bring it and when it’s let outside on camera… you will deal with it because I know what I paid for and what HDUSA confirmed. The issues is you offered no help. I will pay top dollar and get it back from HDUSA in the end. You people are jerks and you will be receiving more complaints than this one from me. «Protocol» in customer service is to DO THE RIGHT THING. You need to not be in the service industry if you call this «protocol». What a joke.

So here’s the deal. I had to use Select Express to deliver something from Pier 1 Imports. Pier 1 Imports were great. Sadly Select Express were not great.
This service tried to make me pay DOUBLE due to an error by their customer service. They came out for delivery of a couch with not enough delivery men, and when they could not get it up my stairs, they said they would have to charge more. I said I would not pay more, and would just exchange the couch for a lighter, more mobile one, they said fine. Next thing I know they tried to make me pay the full amount of delivery once again. I absolutely refused. Thankfully Pier 1 had my back and probably told them that they were hardly using good business sense in doing this, since it’s currently 2014 something called «returns» and «credit cards» do exist in this world. So in the end all was good and I did not have to pay twice.
Their delivery men were great, it was not their fault. I must say this was the most bizarre customer service experience of my life. You can see from my reviews I rarely ever give bad ones.

Do not use this service. Worst delivery experience ever! I have had a lot of furniture items delivered throughout the years, and nothing has compared to the frustration, terrible customer service, and lack of a service I paid for that I experienced today.
The woman I dealt with on the phone spoke so quickly, and mumbled that I couldn’t even comprehend what the call back number, and my confirmation number was after listening to the message 5 times. She was also rude, and I spent at least 30 minutes on hold when trying to arrange a delivery time. This company also lied to the furniture store I ordered my furniture from and said they had been trying to contact me for the past 24 hours. Which was not the case.
And then the delivery. The delivery guys (a third party hired by Select Express) showed up and told me they were only authorized (paid) by Select Express to assemble one of my 2 furniture items. I paid for the «white glove delivery» which means the furniture is brought into the room, assembled, and the boxes removed. Which means ALL of the furniture items, not just the one Select Express has chosen. So after multiple phone calls from myself, the delivery guys, and the furniture company I originally placed the order through, Select Express continued to refuse to honor the white glove delivery service I had paid for.
I did at least get a credit from the furniture company (who was highly apologetic and said they will be reconsidering if they ever use Select Express again). The delivery guys said every time they have a delivery booked through Select Express there is an issue. I am completely appalled at this poor level of service I received. In my profession, this kind of behavior/​service would not be tolerated. Shame on you Select Express.

We bought a «Sierra 6-​drawer dresser» from Crate and Barrel Outlet in Cranbury and paid additional $ 138.03 for shipping and handling. The scheduled delivery was Feb 1^st, Sat, 1pm-​5pm. At the time of purchase, we were quoted $ 138 for shipping, just as before, and no questions were asked about our house or layout of the house or where the dresser would be placed.
The delivery was almost 2 hours late. I contacted the delivery company at 3:15 PM, and was told the driver was in our neighborhood at the moment looking for our address. An hour later I received another phone call saying there were some difficulties and the driver might be running late. At 6:30 we received another phone call saying the driver will be here soon, and the truck finally arrived at 6:50pm.
When the driver and his son pushed the dresser to our front door, he said he wasn’t going to carry anything to the 2^nd floor because it was a stress-​hold item, so he was just going to leave it there and that’s what we paid for. My wife and I were shocked because no one had ever told us there would be a difference. We tried calling Crate and Barrel but the store was already closed. Then the driver said he could do us «a favor» and «help you carry it upstairs». So I ended up filling in the driver’s place and moved the furniture to our bedroom. During this process, the driver’s son took the drawers out and carried them upstairs first. Unfortunately one drawer slipped out of his hands (he was carrying only one drawer at the time), and put a 1-​inch-​long dent in our recently renovated wooden floor. We moved into our house in July and have been buying furniture from C&B. Watching our first home get damaged like that was horrifying. The driver’s reaction was «It’s no big deal. You can buy some padding from Home Depot and patch it.» His expression and gesture and tone of voice suggested he didn’t care at all. If I was his boss, I would have fired him on the spot, not for the damage, but for how he acted.
Then 2 weeks later, Select Express called me and said they refused to pay for any damages because I didn’t write them down on the delivery form. That was a BIG mistake on my part. They also said the driver denied everything that I described. Unbelievable… I told them on the phone that I was willing to talk to the driver or even come into their office to face him. Now Crate and Barrel is trying to arrange something with Select Express to get me directly involved.

Do not use this service & heed the negative reviews. After waiting 4 hours only to be «running behind» and not show up at all. Now I have to reschedule and waste more of my time. Williams Sonoma– Pottery Barn group take notice: Select Express is bringing your business down and tarnishing your rep.

**Note: I assume this is their nationwide Unilocal account, since I do not see any others for each state/​region. I am writing about their service in the DC metro area.
I’ve used Select Express twice, both times in the last six months. The first time, I recall it being very professional, the guys were in and out, cleaned up within about 15 minutes for my dining table and matching bench. The second time, I had a platfrom storage bed to be delivered and assembled, and the experience was the complete opposite.
I cannot recall if the guys from the first service even forewared me with the promised 30 min call ahead that they were 30 mins out from my delivery, but the second service, I definitely did not get a call for the delivery nor assembly (mind you, the fact that the two services are separate, is why I am writing this review). On the day of scheduled delivery, I get a call from the dispatcher to explain that they did not realize the complexity of my assembly and thusly, would need to send a different team to do my assembly on another date. As soon as I get off the phone with the dispatcher, the delivery guys call me to tell me that they are outside of my condo building (no 30 min warning). They delievered my boxes quickly and were out.
My rescheduled assembly was for the following evening, with a window of 4−8pm. At 7:30, when I did not receive a, ‘we are 30 minute out’ call, I called the dispatcher, only to be finally told that the guys were caught up on a prior job and would not be able to make it. I ONLY found out, b/​c I called, they did not call me to let me know. I then had to reschedule a SECOND time for the next night, so mind you, three evenings of my week ruined, rather than just one night that I had planned on a delivery and assembly.
The final evening, there was a SPRINKLE of snow in the DC area. Mind you, the night before, on the second night of FAIL, the dispatcher assured me that one, I would get the shortened window frame as i requested, from 5−7pm (rather than wasting another full night of my life) and two, that my order/​service would be marked a priorirty. Not the case at all:
1. The guys call me AT 7pm to tell me that they will not be there for another 30 mins (which would make them late and outside of the promised timeframe) and the dispatcher assured me that the assembly should only take them 20 mins b/​c the guys told him that it was a simple one. They showed up around 8:20pm.
2. They did not leave my condo until almost 11pm on a Friday night b/​c the assembly took over TWO hours. You can imagine my dismay and hunger as I had plans with my boyfriend to go OUT for dinner that night, and we had to wait until 11pm to go.
I will note, the assembly team apologized as soon as they came in, for the tardiness and assured me they would be in and out as soon as possible. Another side note, I hate when I am getting a service, whether delivery or cable hookup, whatever, and the serviceman asks to use my restroom. Just my own opinion. So I was all kinds of annoyed. I will also note, they were honest, let me know that two of my pieces to the storage compartments were damaged in the boxes so they would not be able to fully assemble 2 of my 4 storage compartments in the bed.
When I spoke to the dispatcher on the actual night of assembly, I asked for a callback from a manager to discuss my dissatisfaction of their service. I never received the callback. 3 days later, I saw the charges on my card for just the delivery so I thought they were just automatically not charging me for the poor assembly mix up. So I dropped it and did not call them back to ask why the manger did not call me. I then find out an entire week later, they charged my card a SECOND time, for the charge of assembly. It was then, today, that I finally called back for explanations. My assembly charge is being refunded, but I am waiting for a full refund and apology of some sort for my negative experience.
But overall, a refund of $ 45 for the assembly will NOT give me back 3 evenings of my life, or even TWO of the evenings above what I had planned on spending in, for this service.

So, yes, every company screws stuff up — it does happen. However, when a company goes above and beyond expectations to make it right, I take notice and tell people, because it does happen, albeit rarely.
After posting my negative review, I was called by one of the higher-​ups in the company, who took the time to apologize for my negative experience and ask how could it be made better.
Select Express went way above and beyond what I would have expected any company to do to rectify a mistake. Thanks to some bizarre life scheduling, I ended up keeping my extra mattress for a few days while I had company in town (thank goodness, because I had wrapped up the thing and was waiting for it to stop raining to curb it and was genuinely dreading having to take it downstairs and outside). Upon explaining this, Select Express offered to come get the mattress as soon as I was done with it, and would come right away when I called. Sure enough, I phoned them today and the mattress was picked up within an hour! Amazing!
I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with how they have handled my situation, and now I see why they have an A+ rating with the BBB — while things do happen and people do mess up, SE actually cared enough to make it right.
