Sebastopol Tractor

They have worked on my lawn and garden tractors for years. They also do my chain saw repair. Friendly knowledgable team and they offer pick up and delivery (for a fee).
Great people.

I have received good service in the past here that’s why I am giving them 2 stars. The last time I walked in I was the only customer in the store. I needed a cheap fuel filter for a 22hp engine. This time it was different the person that helped me. They wanted a part number and suggested I go away and do some research for a part number and come back. I couldn’t believe he couldn’t make some effort and just grab something that seemed close like one of the other guy did for me before.
Bottom line I walked out asking is this how it is here now and the guy said yes. In total disbelief i went a few blocks away to Kragen auto supply store and they found one for me in a few seconds.
I think they want a store front but I don’t think have the customer service skills that it requires.

This spring I brought in a garden tractor that I had just purchased. I took it to Sebastopol Tractor because they had sold it when new.
The tractor was in rough shape, and I had bought it specifically to mow a rough piece of ground where I didn’t want to tear up my good tractor. I communicated this to the woman at the front desk, and asked her to let me know what was required to make the tractor functional. She gave me a quote without anyone looking at the tractor and said that, as it was early in the year and they weren’t too busy, it should be done in a day or two. I asked her to have the mechanic call me when he looked it over so we could talk about what was to be done.
The next day the owner called, and we discussed what it might need. His quote was twice the one I received the day before. I again communicated that I wanted the bare minimum done to get it functional, as I had no history with the tractor and didn’t want to spend money on it until I knew what shape the engine was in, etc. We talked at length, and, above the general «call me when you know what it needs» conversation, I specifically asked him not to replace things like blades because it would be in the rocks and dirt.
Five weeks went by with zero communication.
I finally called to check on it, and it was clear they hadn’t even looked at it.
Two weeks and several phone calls later, I went to pick up the tractor. The bill was more than SIX TIMES what I paid for the tractor in total, and the parts I had specifically asked them NOT to replace had been replaced. And my grass had not stopped growing during the SEVEN WEEKS they had my tractor. The brakes did not work in the slightest — didn’t even slow it down. Reverse didn’t work, nor did any gear but low. The owner noticed this when he put the tractor in my truck, but thought it was noteworthy only to joke about.
The owner seems like a nice enough guy, and did knock off ten percent from my bill when I asked him why he had replaced parts that I had specifically asked him not to. That being said, he replaced parts I had asked him not to, didn’t fix things I had asked him to, failed to communicate any issues such as cost or time, and he repeatedly told me several things that simply weren’t true to make it seem like his shop was adding value to my tractor.
Overall, a very negative experience. Poor communication, poor customer service, poor workflow management in the shop, and lack of accountability to the customer.

GreAt service as owner helped troubleshoot my lawnmower repair. Also he can get parts for many small engines. Bought a new Briggs and Stratton engine for my old Troy Bilt chipper.

Love this place.
Great local service, very friendly people and at a very friendly price.
And they get the work done quickly.

Your West County source for tractor parts. My Dad lives in Sebastopol and has a small tractor that sat for 1 year not working. He called a place in Santa Rosa thinking better supplies and price. Well, the battery we needed was $ 10.00 MORE in Santa Rosa.
Go here, friendly and feels small town. I needed a fuel pump which they also had.

I can’t say enough good things about this company. The owner, James, is a top-​notch guy, always willing to dispense advice and offer suggestions over the phone or whenever you stop by. They are open to coaching the avid fix-​it-​yourselfer like me in what to do (and what NOT to do) whenever I try to take on a repair myself, and if I screw it up and come back, they help me figure out what went wrong without snickering or passing judgement. Also, I have seen them deal with customers less tractor-​savvy than I, and they always make these folks feel at ease while helping them solve the problem – and most importantly, not making them feel dumb. I can only imagine how intimidating it is for someone who doesn’t have a clue to walk in and seek help from a parts store or repair shop and get treated like a newbie just because you are a user and not a fixer. In short, Sebastopol Tractor offers you the friendly customer service you’d experience at a Lowe’s while providing you with the expertise of someone who actually knows what they are talking about!

I don’t have a review for any tractor equipment, but on a beautiful Saturday afternoon when I was on a girl’s ride headed towards Healdsburg with seven other women, my motorcycle decided to give up the ghost.
Desperate, I doubled up on my friend Chris’s bike and along with Cheri, we tried to find me a replacment battery while the rest of the ladies waited parked inthe shade of someone’s driveway. The boat place on the way back into town told us to try Sebastopol Tractor, so we headed there.
The nice man behind the counter (forgot his name– James I think it was?) took a look at it and decided to crack it open. His theory, that it was dry as a bone, was correct. After offering to refill it with electrolytes, he also informed us there was an auto parts store around the corner, then told us if the other store didn’t have a replacement battery for me, he would fill my battery back up and see if that would do the trick.
Well, the auto parts store didn’t have my motorcycle battery in stock, so we went back to the tractor store where the man took my battery in the back and filled it back up. He would not take any money from us and we thanked him profusely.
Talk all the crap you want about people that don’t live in big cities. Here was a cluster of three women, and he was the nicest, helpful person to us without any hesitation or judgement in his face. This place certainly gets five stars in my book.
On a side note, they sold chainsaw-​proof pants. I think I’m going back for those ;-)
