Sebastopol Pet Center

What a great spot. It’s unbelievable how much stock they have and how helpful they have. It’s bit expensive, but if you live in Sebastopol, there are times when everything is 20% off. The employees are always pleasant and knowledgable. Save yourself the grief of dealing with the big box stores, and try this place.

I used to like going to the pet center but I feel like recently it’s gone down hill. A couple of the people working here are nice and helpful. But the other people are not. Ever since they did the remodel it’s gone down hill. I will avoid this place now except on the first Saturday of the month when you get 20% off. There prices are not great and there are a lot of better pet stores around that offer more and are have nice helpful employees.

Only reason it does not get a 5 star is that their prices are higher than the big box hardware stores, but I shop here for most hardware needs as it is smaller & local– and the higher prices are kind of expected for this reason. I only will go elsewhere if I need to get LOTS of something, or lumber. They have a good paint department, pet supply area is also good. They have lots of kitchen supplies and they have most of the regular hardware things (nails, hinges ect). The staff is nice and plentiful– it is usually easy to find someone to help. They have a monthly discount Saturday– which I avoid unless I really need that discount– as it is crazy in there on that day, and quite hard to find parking. I am glad they are in town, and support them whenever possible. I shop at the pet department often. They have a good selection of rubber work boots too– kids and adults!

Always nice to have a local hardware store that carries EVERYTHING + some! I like going in there & finding neat stuff for the kids & home. All the employees I have dealt with have been great & helpful. Prices are high for a town that’s only 15 min. from stores offering same products at significant lower prices. 4 stars due to prices.

I took my stair stepper in there because it was squeaking horribly. I had tried WD-​40 to no avail. The guy at the back counter showed me what to do (he actually did it for me), and now there is no squeaking sound at all! They were all very courteous and helpful. It’s nice to have a place where the employees actually know how to fix things!

I love this place… I needed some General Finishes products and I looked up a local spot who sells it and they came up… It’s funny how some of these little ma and pop shops have exactly what you need while the big box stores have everything EXCEPT that one thing you need… Yeah, I probably paid a buck or two more than I could have elsewhere, but the friendly staff and the fact that I didn’t have to search all over the county made it all worth it… thanks guys keep up the good work.

I hate going to the hardware store. Hate it. I get lost, I don’t know what I’m looking at, I feel like the associates there just shake their head at my boring questions. When my husband says «Let’s go to Home Depot!» I cringe.
Sebastopol Hardware is TOTALLY different! Its actually my favorite place to shop in our small town and I don’t have to support Home Depot! lol
The associates are extremely helpful without being over bearing, they talk to you like a person not an idiot, they care about the products they sell and they are totally honest.
The store has everything. Not just everything, but seriously EVERYTHING! Its home Depot, Bed bath and Beyond and CVS all in one place with nice people that work there.
My husband and I went there a few days ago to pick up a few things and we found everything and more. Today I went there to buy some fencing, I injured my wrist ad the gentleman in fencing was so sweet to carry the materials and gently put everything in my car for me. I also realized I needed a wire cutter and another gentleman recommended a wire cutter that would work well then I asked them about sharpening my old garden tools and he showed me the price list for sharpening.
This place is SUPER! Just SUPER! I wish all stores were this fun to shop at. Sebastopol Hardware you are the B.E.S.T.

This place is awesome! It is so much more than a hardware store. This is the place to go for just about anything you need for your home or garden.
The service is outstanding. There are always an abundance of helpful employees ready to answer your questions. Try it. If the individual doesn’t know the answer, they repeat it into the subtle «coms» devices they all wear in their ears and almost immediately have an answer.
Also, be sure to look up at the ceiling for another unique feature in this store.

It may not sound like it, but this story does end well.
I had a paperwork snafu recently, while trying to order a butter dish. Starting in about November I talked to 3 different people on 3 different occasions, each of whom said, «No problem, we can order it for you and we’ll let you know when it comes in.» Person 2 and person 3 also commiserated with me about the fact the the previous person had apparently lost my order. Still, no butter dish. Then a week or so ago I walked in to the store for something else and there in the display was the item I had been trying to order. I told my story of trying to order it to person #4 who again commiserated, and I figured that it would end there. Then she came up to me at the checkout line and arranged 20% off of the item for me, which I thought was very nice. Turns out that’s not the end of the story…
A couple of days later the store’s owner called me to apologize for my order falling through the cracks and to offer me a full credit for the item (it was Le Creuset, not cheap). He was extremely nice about it, and actually thanked me for making obvious an ordering procedure problem that had affected others as well. I really appreciated hearing from the owner (thanks, Mike!) about this.
I’m a regular customer there, and have always found the staff to be friendly, helpful, knowledgeable about what they’re selling, and willing to help me track items down. I really like these folks, and they care about getting it right. That means a lot.

As I said earlier, Sebastopol Hardware is a greats — albeit expensive — store. I like the friendly knowledgeable staff versus the Home Depot or Lowes staff who are clueless. I will pay a little repeat little for the extra service. But don’t gouge me.
Since Sebastopol is anti — chain store we don’t Sebastopol Hardware doesn’t have a Home Depot in town to keep it honest.
Sebastopol needs to stop this featherbed ding of local merchants forcing us to pay way more. An electric extension cord was 3x more at Seb Hardware than Lowes.
I understand the good intention of Seb City Council to encourage local merchants by protecting — yes, it’s Protectionism on a small scale, — the little guy from the national chain stores but I’ve just given you an example where a local merchant is taking advantage.
Stop this silly nonsense f keeping out the chains… the consumer is the loser.

Super rude staff. Other customers cutting in line with cashier witnessing, and not even saying anything. Lame selection, a real shame that frizzelle burnt down.

I called this store today to ask about one of their services and they were very helpful and then proceeded to check a couple of prices for me so i could make an informed decision on whether to replace my drill bits or have them sharpened.
In looking over their other reviews I was very disappointed to find three that were completely unjustified. This really bugs me. Unilocal is a great resource for finding reliable businesses in our communities if it is used properly but when people post reviews just so they can be one of the most prolific reviewers even when they haven’t patronized the business or because they are just plain stupid or have unreasonable expectations, it minimizes the usefulness.
The following people gave this store two 1 star reviews and one 3 star review that are completely unjustified. This is what I have to say to them.

Please do not review businesses that you have not patronized. It completely screws up the whole process of Unilocal.You gave this business 3 stars. Perhaps it deserves less, perhaps it deserves more but we can’t know that because you haven’t actually shopped there. If it deserves more and you bring their score down just because you think it might be amusing or you just want to jack up your review count, you’re hurting the business and you’re undermining the whole purpose of Unilocal.You have over 6,500 reviews which tells me you only do it to inflate your ego. Thanks very much for being one of the people who completely undermine the usefulness of Unilocal.

As the customer, if you want to take advantage of a coupon offer, it’s your responsibility to bring the coupon with you and if you don’t it’s just tough luck. The employee isn’t allowed to give the discount without taking in the coupon and there’s a good chance the mgmnt. uses those coupons to gauge where their advertising dollars are most effective. Don’t blame the business for your failure to live up to your responsibility as a customer.

Clearly you have a computer so why is it you didn’t google the address for a map if you didn’t know where it was. Granted, an employee should be able to give the correct address but it’s in Sebastopol so how did you end up in a Santa Rosa store? Do you not know that they are two different towns? All the more reason you should have googled a map. Since you ended up at the one in Santa Rosa, why didn’t you ask them to give you directions to the other store. It’s a straight shot down to 116, turn left, take 116 into Sebastopol and it’s in the Fiesta Market shopping center on your right. I’m sure there was at least one person in that store that could have told you that.
You can ask if a store will match the price at another store but they are under no obligation to do so. You ask, they say sorry, no. End of discussion. You special ordered paint which implies that you had them make a blend to match what you needed. They told you what the price was and you agreed to it. That’s an oral contract. Just because you wanted to break that contract and they wouldn’t let you, you decide to damage their rating.
I have a serious doubt that you were given a wrong address. I think it’s more likely that you just wanted to give your review more weight. You failed in that effort.

never seen so many happy seniors bargain hunting! i was too busy to join them.
also couldn’t/didn’t think of any hardware/​household item that i really needed.

Had 30 $ plus dollars of merchandise to purchase today at 4:00 pm, ready to buy. I wanted to use their advertised coupon for a free little 4″ plant. I mistakenly left it at home. I asked if I could still get the plant without the coupon because I don’t live real close by.
The unpleasant employee cashier said «Sorry we can’t honor your coupon by just here say… We need it so we can keep count.»
I’m thinking how about putting a key on the register that says coupon, and click it?
Did she think I was lying about it?
Totally consumer unfriendly. They lost $ 30 plus and a regular customer. Poor sebastopol hardware. People have to drive to Santa Rosa to get good customer support at a hardware store.

I come in here every so often for my kitties needs.
I’ve gotten help from the employees picking out shampoo for them and ear mite spray. Two things I knew nothing about.
They have a good selection of pet supplies for a small store. Plus they always seem to have sales going on!
Huge improvement from the old pet store which always looked on the verge of closing

I used to shop at the Sebsatopol pet center years ago, but when ownership changed I could never find what I needed and the service was dismal. We have shopped at Frizelle Enos since. From now on I’ll get my cat supplies here at Ace.
Now that Ace Hardware has taken it over it is really nice. I’m giving it 4 stars on a curve as I haven’t investigated as thoroughly as I will, but just the atmosphere is comfortable to walk around and browse than any other local pet store past and present. There is a nicer vibe in the store as a whole, the employees are friendly instead of grumpy and creepy, it doesn’t smell weird, and it is well lit. The shelves are stocked! They have lots of cool stuff like chic cat food dishes and lots of good pet treats. They have the small cans of the Natural Balance food that my elderly cat eats (F-​E doesn’t carry the small cans anymore). It is open great hours (for a Sebastopol store) 7am-​6pm M-​Sat, 9 – 5 Sundays. You could actually pick stuff up on your way to work in the morning.
My only suggestion would be to bring back the kitten adoption in the front of the store. I got the best cat I’ve ever had from a previous incarnation of this store (sweet temperament, healthy, cute Siamese…). I never would have gone to the pound to look that day, but a great cat has a great home just because he was there.

Smiling does not equal pleasant! How about the respect that is conveyed through value and fairness. This a store for people who don t realize they have choices .This reality outshines the pleasantness of one of perhaps six or seven folk they have standing around the front end on any given Saturday. I would over look the funkiness and prices to support local families, but this is not cutting it. The small town act is tired, dust your shelves and train your employees. If you are wondering where all Grandaunt Ida’s savings went, she probably had to buy a oscillating fan at Sebastopol Hardware Center. You are getting bye because the kind patronage of your community, try not screwing them. One star because you had what we needed zero for the rest of the experience. We wont be back.

Probably the worst home improvement store I’ve ever encountered. I had special ordered paint. When I called to pick it up, there own employee gave the wrong address.
I ended at the Ace Hardware on Guernville who were very helpful. They were so nice they matched the cost of the paint from another store.
I still needed my original order, I went to pick it up and they wouldnt match the price at the other Ace store and were completely rude and unprofessional.
Even AFTER explaining the situation to the store owner all was said was well sorry you didnt mesh with our management.
If a customer takes the time to call you back about a situation, they are giving your the opportunity to regain their business, not blame you.
First and last time to do business with this store. They can keep there over-​priced paint.

Love this place!
It is a small store compared to some, but it has so much tucked inside. Plus, if you like fedoras or other types of hats, they have a low priced & large selection inside; totally found the hat section on accident –but now that’s the place I go for hats!
Oh, and the people are really nice & helpful. Its one of those stores where you leave feeling like family.

HELPFUL and very FRIENDLY!!! I go here often and it has always been easy to find what we need !!! Please support this local business they are awesome!
