Trettin Drop In Preschool is a non-​profit school that you can use on an as-​needed basis. More than just a child care center, Trettin offers a preschool curriculum taught by experienced teachers for children ages 2 through 5, providing opportunities for children to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically in a warm, loving environment. Our play-​based curriculum encourages choice-​making, autonomy and social competence.

Set your own schedule or drop-​in when you need extra care. The school is secular (non-​religious) and licensed by the WA State Department of Early Learning. Fall, Winter & Spring hours are 9am-​4pm. Summer hours are 9am-​2pm. Children may attend up to 5 hours per day.

Established in 1968.

Trettin Drop In Preschool was established in 1968 by Edith Trettin and is provided with space, financial support and scholarships from the UCUCC, which considers providing quality, secular childcare to be part of their mission to the community.

My 3⁄12 year old daughter attends a few days a week for a few hours and she loves it. Thought it would be hard for her to be apart from mommy but it’s the other way around! She is always full of smiles when I drop her off and pick her up. I have seen a difference in her social skills since she has started attending a few weeks ago, very pleased. I even will hear her in the back seat of the car singing songs she has learned. I think the teachers are just great, very calm and caring. Prices are more then reasonable compared to other preschools we looked at. This place is just awesome!

I have been taking my kids to Trettin Drop-​In Preschool for 6-​years now. My oldest was so sad when she aged out. The kids have a wonderful variety of activities to keep themselves busy and explore their world but there is also a gentle structure to the day to give the kids a sense of routine. The flexibility of this type of child care is such a blessing. The staff is outstanding and they truly understand kids. I can’t recommend Trettin enough.

Trettin was a godsend for our family! When we first moved to Seattle and needed to find him a preschool asap, we found availability was almost non-​existent. And where it was, the cost was unbelievably high. When we found Trettin, the prices were more than reasonable, but we were a bit worried about it being in a basement. But once we visited, we saw what a perfect space it was, and the teachers were warm and helpful. I even credit them with getting our son potty-​trained! I can’t recommend Trettin enough! Wonderful place!

Trettin is absolutely wonderful. My 2 ½ year old attends one day a week and has gained wonderful social skills and enjoys the curriculum. My daughter loves her teachers and looks forward to «school» every week. I highly recommend Trettin.

My husband and I were traveling to Seattle on vacation with our 3 and 5 year-​old boys. We wanted to spend a day together as a couple and do things that weren’t so kid-​friendly, such as wine taste. So, what do you do when you’re in Seattle and need childcare for a few hours? Call Trettin! I read online reviews and called about 1 month in advance and made our reservation. We were really impressed with the professional atmosphere and I immediately felt safe and secure when dropping the boys off. They had scheduled activities and my two kids loved it. The boys even thanked us for planning a day for them… little did they know it was for us, but we played along. I would use this preschool again in a heartbeat and was so grateful to have stumbled upon it. I wish every city we visited had a drop-​in like Trettin. It’s genius!

My son really likes going to Trettin and I really love that it’s a drop off place and I can take him when I need child care. That said, sometimes it can get really busy and you can’t really just show up and drop off because they will be filled to capacity. It seems that mornings between 9 – 11:30 are the busiest so make sure you have a reservation if you don’t want to get turned away! Summers and school holidays also seem to be busy — last summer I made sure to reserve spots every time we went because they were so busy. If I have an appointment or something that I need child care for I try to make reservations at least 2 days in advance if I’ll be taking him during the busy hours because it seriously seems to fill up that fast! Kind of defeats the purpose of the «drop-​off» part of the preschool — but it still works for us as long as I’m pretty organized.
My son likes going and the teachers are nice.

If I could give them ten stars I would. My two year old loves the place. Having a preschool where you can choose your own schedule to bring your little one is great as my husband and I have work schedules that frequently change. The atmosphere is awesome and the prices are very reasonable. Being a first time mum i had all the typical anxieties of what my little one would feel/​go through on her first day of preschool. She barely gave a backward glance on going through the door, she took to it that well. My highest regards to the coordinators, teachers and subs.

My daughter really loves going here. They have helped bring her out of her shell through «show & tell». They are now licensed to keep 2.5 years and older for up to 5 hours. The have a weekly curriculum theme and seem very on top of what they do. Although, my daughter has a «regular» school for most of the week, we save space on Friday’s for her to attend Trettin because she loves it so much. Its her end of the week treat.

Trettin is a dream come true for me. My work is freelance and sporadic so Trettin is the perfect solution. My daughter has been dropping in for 2 years and enjoys her «school» very much. The teachers are amazing — patient, mature, friendly and loving. The structured routine coupled with indoor and outdoor playground time makes it the perfect mix of predicability and fun for my daughter. It is a value at $ 8.50 an hour. Our family is so grateful for Trettin and its teachers!

I LOVE Trettin! My daughter has been going here a year and it has been wonderful for us. She is always happy to go and it has been fantastic for her socialization skills.
The teachers are great too! This truly is a preschool setting. It is structured, has a schedule, has rules, etc. If you are looking for just a «play zone» this is probably not your best bet, but if you are looking for a preschool/​school type setting — Trettin is the place to go!

As a freelancer with an unpredicable schedule, I really depend on this great drop-​in preschool. The teachers are wonderful, there are sensory exploration, art and play activities, and even the option to buy a lunch if you are in too big a rush that morning (common for me!). My daughter now attends a scheduled preschool closer to home, but actually asked to go back to Trettin just to see the teachers she has missed.
Another big upside is that they will help kids at whatever stage of potty training they are in — in diapers, in pull-​ups, or in underwear. They’ll help with reminders and take accidents in stride. Love this place!

This is an affordable and well-​oiled drop-​in daycare operating in the University District. Maximum 4 hours stay for children per day. There is a daily schedule so be sure to check when large motor time and/​or outdoor time is. Bring a lunch or buy a lunch. Themed weeks and months that rotate through. Some older children may tire of the routine and younger children but perfect for 2 – 4 year olds needing a little time to socialize. Moms can meet a friend for lunch or get their hair cut! Whew! Get a punch card for small discount.
