History
Established in 1969.
Child Learning and Care Center was started as a mission of University Congregational United Church of Christ. We are a non religious program located in the church. The mission of UCUCC was to provide quality child care to all families regardless of who they are. We continue that mission today. Child Learning and Care Center is open to children ages 15 months through 5. We serve 42 children a day. We offer small classrooms with low teacher child ratios. We firmly believe children will learn when they are interested. We learn through play with careful observations of each child. We prioritize enrollment of families receiving subsidies, and have a limited amount of scholarship dollars available to low income families that do not qualify for other subsidies. We are proud of our staff and work hard to pay a living wage and benefits. Because of this we have a low staff turnover. We are proud participants of the Washington State Dept. of Early Learning «Early Achievers» Program.
Meet the Manager
Michele S.
Manager
Michele made a career change in 1989 leaving corporate life behind and started as an assistant teacher in her son’s preschool classroom. She immediately fell in love with working with children and families. She has worked with families in the non profit world since. She returned to school and earned her degree in Child Care Management, and has since worked with children ages birth through college. Michele strongly believes that we adults are building the future for our children, and if we can give them the life skills to succeed in preschool, they will continue building on those skills to succeed in life. Michele has been with Child Learning and Care Center since 2005. She loves coming to work everyday, knowing that her job helps families go to work or school with their child is in a happy and safe place.
