The Land of Nod

This children’s store is just my style! It’s affiliated with Crate & Barrel, which happens to be my favorite home décor store, so you just know that everything Land of Nod is the cutest ever! The nice thing is that you can use Crate & Barrel gift cards at Land of Nod as well.
Stopped in here this weekend and the customer service is always so friendly and helpful. I didn’t see what I was looking for, so they checked in the back for me and found it right away. Everything here also makes great gift items! I wish there were more of these in WA state, but I love U-​Village so I don’t mind the trip to Seattle.

Watch out little kids that I know, because you’re getting TOYYYYYYS!!! AND GAAAAAAMES!!!
I love this store for the kids in my life, but secretly I love it for ME. The lighting fixtures and clocks are artful, decorative, and modern. And the bedding! I want robot bedding!!! It’s expensive and it makes me sad that little kids have cooler duvets than me, maybe someday I’ll too get some Land of Nod sheets!
They have eco-​friendly toys, kids music cds, and inexpensive stocking-​stuffer size items.
They have some great Christmas tree skirts and decorations too!

I’m 23 and happily childless, so when I say these guys have super adorable stuff, I mean for your post-​college kawaii apartment. I LOVE this place. Why should only children have dino sheets? I looked a bunch of places and could only find them in a twin size, which just don’t cut it. Happily, TLN has full-​sized ones! And super charming robot throw pillows. And adorable lamps which I will definitely buy at some point. The saleslady was friendly and helpful, although this is the kind of store where I need no guidance to find tons of «must-​haves» (loosely defined I suppose — is kawaii a basic bodily requirement? I think so).

There’s a saying that children (especially little girls) are the «ultimate accessory». Have a child, and what do some parents do? Accessorize the child to make them and their surroundings as «cute» as possible.
You can certainly do it here. This is an example.
If you’re not into the whole «accessorize my child thing», there are some practical things that you can get for you child, such as child size furniture, chalk boards, books games, storage containers, etc.

Land of Nod’s customer service is awesome! I think at this point I’d write a letter of recommendation for Emma — though everyone I’ve spoken to has been really kind and helpful. She’s helped me place a large out of state order for delivery and pick-​up, gave me info so I could place the order during a sale time, and basically has made what could have been a really stressful and unpleasant process incredibly positive!
Yes, this is a an «upscale» store, and I’m thrilled to have gotten service that matches the prices and products!

My saga with Land of Nod is over, but I share my saga with you, dear reader, so that you can avoid the dramas that I experienced…
My [pregnant] wife and I were on our way to creating the world’s most perfect nursery. We had everything, save for a bookshelf to house the baby’s bric-​à-​brac. My wife found a fabulous bookshelf at Land of Nod, and despite the store being 15 miles away in University Village (we live in West Seattle), we piled into the Jetta and took the pilgrimage Northward.
Initially we were struck that the staff at Land of Nod were very helpful, quite personable, and far more knowledgeable about their products than sales staff at similar stores. Alas, the sales woman discovered the bookshelf we desired – a white «low-​rider» bookshelf – was not in stock, but she could order one for us. Fine, thought we – we’ll have to come back to the store to pick it up, but at least we’ll get a fine bookshelf. The bookshelf was about 3 times more expensive than a similar size bookshelf we’d get at Ikea, but hey, it was apparently a better quality and the customer service at the store promised to be far better than cheaper stores as well. With that, we drove back to West Seattle, comforted in the thought we’d have a marvelous bookshelf soon to complete our little nursery.
We waited for the bookshelf to arrive at the store, and we got a call when it did. We piled into the car and made another trip up to University Village. At the store a young woman (perhaps 115 pounds) struggled to take the very heavy bookshelf box out to our car, informing us that the stock people didn’t work after 6pm that day so she had to move it on her own. Strange. But whatever: we had our bookshelf! Now, back to West Seattle to assemble it!
Initially the assembly went well. The bookshelf was made of noticeably higher quality wood and parts than those made by firms like Ikea. But then the first snag: the screws used to fasten the top of the bookcase went right through the top of the bookshelf, thus protruding out the top. Darn it. A call back to Land of Nod in University Village was met with apologies, and a request for me to disassemble the bookcase and take the part back to the store, at which time they’d order a replacement. I argued against that huge effort, and they finally relented: «OK,» they said, «we’ll order the replacement part and give you a call in a week to pick it up. Put the bad part back into the replacement part’s box and we’ll affix a pre-​paid UPS label on it to ship it back to the factory.» Fair enough.
We were told the replacement bookshelf would arrive at their store in about a week, and we’d get a call when it does. Well, about 11 days or so later we hadn’t heard from Land of Nod, so we took the initiative to call. It turned out the replacement bookshelf was in! They said they couldn’t call us to let us know it was in because a label had fallen-​off the box, so they didn’t know it was for us (?). In any event, they again wanted us to pick it up but I again objected, my patience waning. They relented and said they’d sent the replacement top to us, and that I could just send the broken top back via UPS using their pre-​paid sticker.
Well, I arrived home from work a few days later to find a bookshelf top standing on my front porch, wrapped carelessly in a single layer of bubble wrap by the University Village Land of Nod. Well, hoping that my fears about potential damage to the part were unfounded, I brought it into the house and unwrapped it. My fears were realized: the replacement part was hopelessly dented, scratched, and broken from the shipping and shoddy packing. Ironically, it was in far worse shape than the initial top I was replacing!
Throwing both broken bookshelf tops into the car, I made my third trip to the University Village Land of Nod. I marched into the store with a broken bookshelf top under each arm. I was greeted by a nice young woman (the staff are all nice there, if anything else), but I immediately asked to speak to the manager. Curt/​Kurt came up to see me, and he immediately recognized I was unhappy (I suspect a customer carrying broken furniture into the store is a sign that things are amiss). He apologized profusely as I explained my frustration and the drama surrounding this purchase. It was now something like 1.5 months since we actually bought the bookshesince we actually bought the bookshelf. Curt/​Kurt said he had two goals: 1), to get us the right part, and 2) to «make things right» for all the trouble we had. He said he’ll send us the part overnight to our house (why wasn’t this offered initially?) and he said he’ll talk to his general manager about what else they might be able to do.
The next work day we did get the replacement part. But a week later, we still haven’t heard anything more from Curt/​Kurt or anyone else from Land of Nod. So much for «making this right» for our time and frustration.
Avoid Land of Nod.

Pick up the MOST DARLING swaddling baby blankets for my friends Chris & Elizabeth and soon-​to-​be-​born Baby C at The Land of Nod… granted Eliz registered for them, but this is a SUPER cute store that even if the mama is not registered, she will love a gifty from here!

Gotta hand it to Crate & Barrel for thinking up this store! I want EVERYTHING every time I enter the building (or online!). Great place to find a gift, they usually have a stockpile of stuff that you’ll want to buy. You don’t have to spend a lot to find fun items. The staff is always so nice too so it’s just one more reason to head out to U-​Village!

This is a fun store for toddlers to play in if you need somewhere fun to hang out. But too expensive to buy anything!

Great store! Wonderful place for gifts. I got all my daughter’s bedroom stuff here. It was more expensive than other places around but I think it was worth it, because the quality was noticeably better than the competition.

My daughter has been on a «cooking» kick and my Mother in Law bought her a little play kitchen from this shop. While I know it was kind of pricey– they quality is WONDERFUL. It is nice and minimal, white with a little red curtain. Much better than the pastel pink that pottery barn kids was offering. they have a TON of wooden play food to stock the little kitchen as well as seriously cool kids music items (a tiny accordion!!!). Also, they stock a lot of quality kids CDs — Justin Roberts, Dan Zanes and the like. I took off s star because, like many other people have mentioned, it is a bit pricey at times.

Expensive, but worth the money. Well, most of it. This is definitely a more upscale children’s store than most. But it’s more of a middle ground. Not design Prada for children and not Walmart discount kid items.
First off, they have great décor ideas from nurseries to about pre-​teen. The furniture is well crafted, easy to grow with and tends to be convertible. A little plain in design but a good foundation.
The linens are wonderful. Really well made blankets, sheets, and accessories. Things that will last a long time and tend to be in classic colors.
Of course their toy and music selection is great. Original style toys, board games and videos. I purchased a great children’s cd with lullaby rendition of The Cure!
And I am totally pining for this sleeper loveseat couch. Super small and comfy and able to use for guests.

Nice, if rather expensive. Some of their linens are really cute, as are the bedroom accessories. TOys are sweet, if sometimes impractical.
They do have an interesting collection of books, and they carry the School HOuse Rock Cds.

The Land of Nod is a new children’s furniture/​toy/​music store. The furniture is nice but I usually go for the nice selection of «antique» toys (you know replicas of things that your parents probably played with) and great selection of children’s music.
The selection of children’s music is great. I go by everytime we go by to listen to something that is a bit more tolerable than the Wiggles. They have a listening station in the front of the store so I can listen and watch for the young ‘uns making a break for the door.
Well worth the visit!
