History

Established in 1981.

Storables owner and founder, Dodd Fischer, became interested in the Housewares /​Lifestyle store concept over 30 years ago. He was drawn by his interest in contemporary Italian design and seeing customer demand for ready-​to-​assemble furniture. Dodd looked for functional, utilitarian design and clever novelties such as wind-​up toys for the holiday season.

The first Storables opened at Beaverton Town Square, near Portland, Oregon, in 1981. By 1985 five Storables stores had opened in Oregon, California and Washington. The stores were small in size but packed with clever and stylish storage pieces.

In 1992, Dodd and his management team decided to transform Storables into a larger store format. This larger format allowed Storables to provide its loyal customers with an expanded selection of goods, featuring additional options, materials and colors, while still focusing on one-​on-​one customer service and intelligent merchandising.

I bought Storables closet systems for every closet in my house ten years ago. A few weeks ago, one of the closet systems collapsed due to faulty drywall anchors included with the system. I told the store about it, and they sent out a contractor on their dime to repair the damage and reinstall every closet system in my house. Brenda, the store manager, was so helpful and showed sincere concern over this problem. The problem I had was a product defect, and Storables has since discontinued using that product. I suppose Storables could have just left me high and dry and had me chase after the closet manufacturer for the damage and repairs. Instead, Storables took care of it for us and was quick about it too. I’m really grateful to the store and staff for their excellent customer service. It’s this kind of service that will keep me coming back for many years to come.

I have had such good experiences here with customer service. I recently moved, and needed a big storage kitchen thing, and they helped me get what I wanted and more, all with the most eager smiling faces. I will never hesitate to recommend or visit Storeables in University Village.

It’s basically a Container Store knock-​off, but without discounted prices and with a much smaller selection and range of items — some of which seem of poorer quality. Still, you can find some great stuff in here for your organizing needs. The salespeople were definitely more friendly than my experience at the Container Store, but if undertaking a large project, I’m worried I wouldn’t find everything I wanted here — or I’d have to settle for a style/​quality that maybe isn’t what I had in mind. It just didn’t make my super neat freak heart race like it does when I’m in OCD heaven (like at the Container Store or the storage options section of IKEA).

I was not disappointed by the selection in Storables when I visited the store. I went in looking for one specific item and came out of the store with that item and another useful little trinket I found along the way.
The Container Store in Bellevue does have a better selection but driving to the Eastside is not worth the hassle when I need one basic thing.
The big downside to this is the service. My roommate and I were among roughly 5 customers in the store, but no one offered to help us look for the single item we needed. Then as we went to the register the cashier told us to wait and walked away to help another customer (when there was another sales person on the floor not doing anything). It seemed rather rude and disorganized.

Ask any of my coworkers or friends and they’ll tell you I have a SLIGHT OCD about organizing and color-​coding. Opening new office/​school supplies is like Christmas to me!
So my heart basically skipped a beat when I walked in, looking for an ice cream container. Though I didn’t find one (I was incredibly disappointed), I walked up and down every aisle imagining all the things I could organize and store in all of the containers I found. They even had mini latching storage containers! Literally, mini… like the size of a pager (does anyone even remember what those are?!)
Anywho, I may not have found what I went in there for but I definitely know where to go for all my organizing needs.
Besides, it’s in the UVillage; with all the other cute stores and free parking, why not make a visit?

I love organizing in general so Storables is one of my favorite types of stores in the world. They have a ton of random stuff that you don’t think that you need until you get there. Kind of like Target. But as soon as I got there, I knew that I needed a mechanism to help wrap my Christmas lights. And I knew that I needed boxes to organize each of my Christmas ornaments separately. Obviously.
This location has a much better selection than the Bellevue location and is much bigger. The price of having such a great selection, however, is the price itself. While not crazy expensive, it’s much more expensive than, say, Target or Fred Meyer. The quality appears to be better here but let’s be honest… a lot of the stuff is made of plastic.
The staff here seemed less personable than the staff in Bellevue. There were quite a few workers there on a quiet Friday afternoon… yet no one greeted me, asked how I was doing, or asked if I needed help. They seemed carried away in their personal conversations. The person checking me out was cordial and the service was OK but I remember thinking that it wouldn’t kill her to smile.
Wow, I’m picky. Anyway, good store, good selection, but pricey for what it is and just so-​so service.

I wish they would replace this U Village Storables with a Container Store. Storables has half as much selection and it’s not very well-​curated. The sizes of their kitchen containers are strange, and their color choices for the closet & office section are limited. Customer service is non-​existent. I went it to a completely empty store, asked someone if they have gift wrap (of course they don’t — unlike the Container Store!), and she didn’t even bother looking up from her paper to say «No.»

This place is well-​organized & items are reasonably priced.
The selection is OK, but I find the quality to be a little inconsistent. We’ve probably bought a dozen plus organizational accessories, with mixed results.
Its convenient because we are at U Village quite a bit, so we often pop in even if we don’t need anything urgently.
Personally I think the Container Store has more selection & higher design — but driving to Bellevue to shop there is not on the top of my list.

A little overdue since I have been coming and going here ever since I bought my home in 2007.
Great layout, lots of stuff going on but somehow everything is in its correct spot.
Decent prices, not cheap but not as expensive as the Container store. If you get on their email list, they will have coupons for like 30% and such from time to time.
Really, really nice customer service here from the two handful that I have encountered. Everyone is very informative and extremely helpful whether I am coming in for one particular item or all panicky because I am having a possible moth invasion breakdown. Very helpful which I just love.
One caveat is when building some of their items… the instructions could be more clear.

I bought a custom shelving system for my pantry here, and everyone that helped us was patient, good at listening, and even helped my husband and I reach agreement on some crucial organization questions. The custom shelf system they have there is easy to put up and wonderful. In fact, it’s so great, I returned for my daughter’s closet, and then again for my own closet…
They have a great variety of items to help organize anything in your home. ANYTHING, I swear.

You should come to Storables for the staff. Unlike most modern stores, with clueless employees that know nothing of their products, Storables invests heavily in training their employees, and it shows. They actually have solutions to your problems. Staff always seems to be friendly as well.
Certainly not the cheapest option, but if price is your only concern, then go to Walmart you tightwad. :)

Located in University Village this store is clean, well stocked and has an amazing amount of items to help keep you organized. There prices are competitive which surprised me. The store is much nicer then the other location near Alderwood Mall. The staff all had smiles on there face, but were all tasking verses providing guest service. Overall still though a great store and would return.

I didn’t know how disorganized I was until I walked into this store.
A rack for hanging coats on the back of a door? Sure… I need that! A rack for hanging necklaces and storing earrings? Of course! Boxes for files, for laundry… how did I ever live without these things?!
Seriously though. I live in a teeny weeny studio and instead of moving so I have more room for all my crap, I just buy space saving stuff and keep cramming things into 400 sq ft of space. It’s a good idea, trust me. Make me feel sane about that decision!
You can find great gifts here for a loved one, great space saving solutions and unique storage ideas. Whether you need to save space in a closet, a car or a suitcase this is your best bet.

I’ve never met a store that caters more to the modern-​dysfunction of society that Storables — and that’s a compliment. We’re all over-​consuming the heck out of the planet’s resources, leaving us surrounded by stuff which begs the question — should we be more environmentally conscious and cut back?
No, I say — it’s Storables to the rescue with enough organizational doo-​dads and stuff-​hiding technology™ to please even the most hoarder-​ish and OCD among us.
You’ve got your clear plastic boxes, your office organization, your kitchen racks, pet food, and they’ve even got cheap-a**-sure-to-fall-down wire-​rack storage systems from Elfa (I am biased, I think these blow).
This store is large, organized (natch) and the people here are obsessively helpful. Maybe they pump something in the air or send them to retail re-​education camps.
At any rate, I deduct one star from this review for my own need to organize stuff I should have never purchased in the first place.

If only I could rent one of the OCD types below. I struggle with organization sometimes and this place definitely helps. Great selection of things to help you organize.
The quality is not great (it’s generally all Chinese junk) and the prices are high. They’re a store that sells just this kind of stuff, so I can’t complain too much I guess.

A mecca for the organizational freaks that walk among us. And I happily include myself into those ranks.
Storables is this wonderful little world where everything has a place in a neat and orderly little box, shelf, hamper, or drawer. It’s a place where you can dream up the perfect closet or pantry. And a place to grab an extra laundry basket!
The first time I stepped in, I was in heaven. I wandered the aisles dreaming of my perfectly organized house. It’s a tad overwhelming. I was on a simple mission for some storage baskets and ended up getting excellent pantry baskets and a few extra kitchen organizational items that have made my life easier.
And I do love their laundry section. I had to splurge on a few items here. I wish I had the funds to enjoy a beautiful closet like the ones on display here. Someday.

What can I say? I love to organize things. Do not confuse this with me being an organized person. Au contraire, I am disheveled mess of a person. I just love the act of organizing things and this is where I go to get my organizational goodies.
They got a little bit of it all from the kitchen to the home office to the closet to the bedroom. And they have a nice selection of food storage, good for keeping out those creepy crawlies. They also sell a few kitchen nicknacks but I’m mostly here for the tubs, jars, bins, shelves and boxes. Oh, and the hangers. I can’t forget my love of hangers.

Until then, I’ll just show up when they open and hang out all day, pretending I live and work there, then leave when they close. Or hide in the bathroom until they lock up and sleep there, too.
