Specialties
PEPS is a local nonprofit based in Seattle, Washington that connects and supports new moms and dads as they begin their parenting journey.
PEPS makes it easy for new parents to connect, face-to-face with other new parents who live nearby or have a baby close in age. PEPS is a peer support model, and groups follow a format for members to get to know each other. Groups are led by trained volunteers. PEPS Groups are fun and social and each meeting includes time for sharing parenting highs and lows, time to focus on the babies’ development and a discussion topic.
Newborn Groups meet in member homes and new groups are formed by neighborhood. Additional groups are offered quarterly at community sites in King and Snohomish Counties.
History
Established in 1983.
More than 30 years ago, a group of early childhood educators and social services professionals in Seattle saw a need for a program that would bring new parents together, in their communities, during the critical first few months of parenting when feelings of isolation and inadequacy mix with the joy of welcoming a new baby. These visionaries used their knowledge, expertise and research to design a preventative model of support and education.
PEPS launched three neighborhood groups in 1983, and more than 30 years later PEPS continues to be embraced by the community as an invaluable family resource.
