This is a lovely neighborhood garden. It is privately owned, and not a ppatch or city park, but people can visit and have a stroll. At the moment a construction project is going on behind it that may make it less fun to explore, but it is certainly not closed.

Pepe’s Garden on13th Avenue East is a welcome garden escape from the Condo-Nation that has been eating up all of Seattle and excreting low-grade shit for which young professionals pay too much but don’t care because, well, they are stupid. Between a house and an apartment building, look for a small entrance on the west side of the street in the middle of the block and find yourself in a CS Lewis experience as you walk through the mysterious pathways and eat up the aromas. Move slowly, look around, look up, there are little surprises everywhere – albeit some weathered and faded, but the love is there. Find a place to sit along your journey and contemplate a poem or quote left by some previous visitor. Tread lightly and leave refreshed, renewed. Pepe’s Garden is lovingly cared for by a man who you will probably never see. Rumor has it he can’t take the sun and only gardens when both sun and visitors are out of sight. I know we need more urban density, but I hope Pepe’s Garden can remain one non-condo address for a long time to come. And for those of you reading this thinking«AHA! Undeveloped land in the city!» Think again. Anyone who tries to acquire this land, much less build on it, is going to come up against the most politically active neighborhood in the city. Can’t you just enjoy the fucking garden and back off already? Geesh!
