Paris Eastside

We have had wonderful experiences here! Muriel and Denis are very sweet more than anything, they love what they do! We have been to several Sip n’ Meets and more recently joined a cooking class. We learned about French culture while making food and tasting various wines to pair. I highly recommend Paris Eastside as a place to tour French culture and meet others interested in culture and cooking. They have a great wine selection as well! I never go home empty handed. The prices are reasonable and you know where your wine is coming from.

Greatest team building exercise ever! The whole group gave thumbs up, and not provoked. We enjoyed ourselves, learned a lot, and ate and drank magnificently. Muriel was so patient with us. The whole experience was dreamy!

I sent Muriel a message after her response to me. Both Kelly and I feel that she is TOTALLY missing the point. She received my $$s for supplies, which were not used and she did NOTHING for the $ 90.00, but be very curt and nasty to my daughter-​in-​law. She could have taken part of the money as a penalty and we would have been willing to take the class another time and pay the extra. Instead, she chose to take it all and lose us as future customers forever! I’m sorry, as I would have enjoyed taking her class and more in the future, as well. It is her loss, ultimately!

I’m sure this place is great, if you actually make it to a class.
I recently decided to attend a cooking class while my mother-​in-​law was in town, and we chose the mousse and wine class. She agreed to sign us up, then she mailed me the registration. When I recieved it, I noticed that she had accidently registered us for a class in July, and she was not visiting until August. It also happened to be for the evening I received the registration in the mail. Ok, our bad.
I called immediately and spoke to a woman who I believe was named Muriel. I explained the situation, and before I could finish, she interrupted me saying, ‘What date?’ I asked if she meant when we were registered, or when we wanted to reschedule. She quite aggressively said– ‘When are you registered?’ I told her that evening, then she said ‘Oh no, I have everything set up, you cannot cancel this late.’ I told her that my mother-​in-​law was not even in town, and that there was no way I could attend that evening. I said I understood that this was our mistake, but would she be willing to help me reschedule. I did ask for a discount if possible, but I would have paid the full fee for the next class if she had been the least bit helpful. She said ‘oh no, no, no’ several times, and was not really even listening to me. She said she already had all the supplies (this class is taught a few times a month, and I’m pretty sure mousse ingredients and wine will keep for a week). She basically acted like I was putting her out for not attending class that evening. I was really taken aback by how rude this woman was over the phone, and how she kept interrupting me.
While I get that this was my mistake, a little consideration would have gone a long way. My mother-​in-​law visits a few times a year, and this easily could have become a regular thing for us to do together, but there is no way after this experience that I will take a class here in the future.

During my recent trip to seattle, we thought it would be nice to wrap our visit with macaron class. We have both visited top notch macaron shops in US and also in France so we thought it would be great in learning how to make them ourselves!
The cooking school took place at a lovely chic shop. You can immediately tell that Muriel has chic style and sense! Every corner was instagram worthy and I found excellent bottles of wine that are rare to find in the States in her little shop!
Though I’ve never attempted making macarons I heard from friends that it is not simple! However, Muriel ‘s instructions were so clear that it made it easy for us to make them. The macarons turned out just like the ones you buy at the shops!
Three hours went very quickly and we were able to make three kinds of macarons. One was coconut with chocolate ganache filling, second one was roquefert cheese filing with caramelized walnuts on top and the third one was lavander with french cream filling.
You may be reading this review and wonder why I’m deducting 2 stars. Well, though our class was informative and fun, the macarons were overly sweet. And you know sweetness should never be overpowering the taste of macarons! Ganache filling was hard and french cream was not light and dreamy like the ones I tried in the shops. Eventhough I’m an avid macaron aficionado, I couldn’t finish the coconut and lavender one. (And i usualy finish my box of dozen macarons in one setting). Honestly, if I think about the fillings, I want to give 3 stars instead of four. It was a big disappointment since our macaron looked good. :(
So I’m giving four stars considering the atmosphere, complementary champagne & wine (which were a perfect pair with our macarons!) she paired with our macarons, wonderful people we met and the excitement of making macarons.

Absolutely wonderful. I took Muriel’s macaron class tonight and I have to say that this was the best thing ever. I have been trying to perfect macarons for over a year and she provided so many wonderful tips and recipes. The macarons we made were FANTASTIC and I can’t wait to go back and try them again at home.

A friend and I took Muriel’s Macaron making class yesterday and we had a great time! Muriel is a wonderful instructor, very patient and kind! She made Macaron baking seem easy and straightforward which we all know it is not. The macarons our group made were to die for and looked just as beautiful as any you’d see in a bakery window. I’m really looking forward to trying again on my own with the simple to follow recipes she provides during class!

I took a macaron-​making class last Saturday with Muriel and LOVED it! A friend of mine had double-​booked her day and offered me her spot instead, and I am so glad I went! Muriel was a fantastic instructor; very patient and clear with her instructions and had a warm and kind demeanor about her. You could tell right away that she was very passionate about cooking and teaching. Macaron-​making was very precise and technical, yet Muriel made me feel very comfortable and confident, even with a few mistakes here and there.
There were six of us that morning and we worked in pairs to create 3 types of macarons. I’m not sure if it was the freshness, the ingredients, or the fact that I knew WE had made these macarons, but they were hands-​down the best ones I’ve ever had :) Muriel emailed out copies of the recipes and instructions to us afterwards and I’m very excited to try making these on my own now.
I definitely recommend taking the macaron class here, and I hope to come back for another cooking class in the future.

Muriel’s class is easy going, fun with the added bonus of a delicious French lunch. She is a delightful and engaging instructor and keeps the atmosphere pleasantly low key. Her shop is charming with small selections of French wine, food products, cooking items, baby items and other French products. What a delightful lunch, simple & delicious recipes and an all around fun experience!

My friend and I thought it would be fun to take a cooking class… on a weekday over the lunch hour. I will admit, I questioned the menu, but it turned out to be EXCELLENT! The owner, Muriel, is so kind and welcoming, she really makes you feel like you have known her forever and that you are friends. It’s a hands-​on class, and eat what you prepare from start to finish. Muriel offered simple suggestions that I never would have thought of such as a tip on how to move a crust simply and easily from the counter to the pan without it breaking… and how to make a non-​slip mat. We could not stop talking about how good, simple, and even how refreshing the meal was! I only wish that I lived in Seattle so I could attend another class with Muriel! A very cute store with plenty of workspace for the class. Had I been walking by, I would have stopped in just to check out the unique items she has for sale in her shop. Since I live in WI, I will be keeping tabs on this place via the website… and it will be a stop on future visits for sure!

I bought a cooking class for two after visiting Paris Eastside on a whim one day. The store is absolutely adorable, well organized and bright… overall incredibly clever. We were nervous about the class when we arrived, but all of our apprehension dissolved after meeting the wonderful staff. Vincent’s laughed filled the room and Muriel was delightful and patient throughout the cooking session. It was the most amazing experience and the food we cooked was phenomenal. Muriel had us prepare mussels, frites, salad and, for dessert, a (my mouth is watering while revisiting it) crêpe cake with freshly made lemon curd. It was a perfect anniversary present and I would recommend a class to anyone. Muriel made me feel completely at home… even though I am kitchen-​incompetent. Will be back, most definitely.

I attended the first in a series of 4 «French cuisine 101» classes at Paris Eastside last night, when I learned how to make one each of onion, pea, pumpkin and leek soups. Muriel is very warm and inviting and the recipes were straightforward to follow and yielded delicious results. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and am looking forward to the remaining classes!
