Every once in a while I get to travel somewhere. And every once in a while when I travel, I stumble on what I think is a treasure. When this happens, I fill with warmth, I smile, and I think about breaking into song. This is exactly how I would feel if I were visiting Seattle and stumbled upon the Out to Lunch Concert Series. For those visiting Seattle in the summer, be sure to search the web for Out to Lunch concerts happening during your visit and plan to attend. The events are free(!!!), and we all know how challenging it is to find anything low-cost, leave alone no-cost, anymore.

I am a grumpy grumpster. I admit it! I work right next to Occidental Square, and I appreciate a nice, quiet Square during my work day. Maybe some birds. Definitely not a very loud Vicci Martinez. Get off my lawn, kids! Go play for the tourists at the Harbor Steps!

Out to Lunch and the Seattle Presents concert series( ) make working downtown during the summer a little more bearable. City Hall is my favorite spot to watch with Occidental Square as a close second. Yes, some of the music is not my cup of tea but how can I knock free live music playing right around the corner from my office? It is a much needed break in the monotony of the regular 9 to 5 rat race. So far this summer I have seen the always amazing local soul singer, Choklate, as well as some pretty spectacular Polynesian drumming and dancing. Oh, and did I mention it is free?

The Out to Lunch Concert Series has been around for many years now — probably more than 20 — yep 28. It’s just one more thing that makes Seattle in the summer the most awesome thing ever. There are various venues — Harbor Steps, Pike Place, Freeway Park, Westlake Park, Occidental Park, SBux HQ… so if you work Downtown, chances are that one will be near by at some point this summer. The artists are eclectic too — ranging from Rockabilly to Hippy Jam, to Reggae to Funk, Jazz, Classical, etc… Random and free. Love it.
