Onibaba Ramen

Satisfying portion of delicious ramen with creamy broth and super tender pork.
The place was pretty busy, thus the service pretty mediocre.
Not recommended for anyone who does not eat pork, is vegetarian, or vegan.

Finally! A ramen shop that is authentic and tasty!
A few important things to keep in mind:
1) Open only during lunch hours 11:30 AM– 2:00 PM
2) Open only on Wednesdays
3) Ramen flavor/​broth rotates each week, but you can check their Facebook page for the type of ramen being served that day.
4) Located in Miyabi 45^th, so don’t go looking around for a restaurant named «Onibaba.» It’s the same spot.
Anyways, came in on Veterans Day around 11:40 AM and it was PACKED! I am not sure if every Wednesday is so crowded, but to be safe, I would try and get their first seating when they open if you’re with a small group. If you’re eating by yourself, you shouldn’t have a problem getting a seat since they do have single seating on the bar.
Shio (salt) ramen was being served the day I came in. I usually judge a good ramen place by its broth. The broth was excellent. It had a taste of chicken, pork and a touch of dashi in it. It was really well balanced and flavorful. A side of hot chili oil, which wasn’t hot at all, was served on the side and definitely made the ramen taste even better. It was really good chili oil!
Noodles were cooked perfectly. They were chewy and did not get gushy, even to the last bite. In addition, they gave a good amount of noodles as well. I was definitely full at the end of the meal.
Only downside was that the service was understaffed. The poor Japanese lady was running around and trying to help and accommodate the whole restaurant. Eventually, another guy helped out as well, but service was still slow.
I am making a bold statement and Onibaba is probably the best ramen in Seattle. Definitely give this place a try!

Had the ramen there for several times. Really love the cold soba and shoyu ramen, although the shio Ramen is a little salty and oily for me. A kind of pricy but worth for it. Will come back again.

I had the Shoyu ramen and maybe because I am not a fan of Shoyu it didn’t wow me. I like spicy miso ramen, so maybe I will come back when they have something along those lines.

i keep returning to Onibaba rather than to the other ramen joiints. sometimes at work on a wednesday, i’ll start thinking of Onibaba then decide i need some Onibaba ramen. when i start to think about Onibaba, i can’t help myself and head over there for lunch.
Some new ramens have been added and lucky me, i’ve tasted them all.
My favorites now in order of importance (to me):
#!1 Tan Tan Men.
this is a brand new addtition and now my absolute new favorite! the strong, assertive broth with chile spicy is just this side of almost too spicy. the ground pork was seasoned just so. wish there were more of that ground pork. the debut bowl was served with fresh takenoko (bamboo shoots). if i can, i will make the trip to Onibaba for this every time this is on the wednesday lunch menu.

#5 Kare (curry) Ramen

The Ramen here is top notch. Really its the perfectly cooked noodles that set them apart from the thousands of other Ramen places that have recently spawned. The Chasu was delicious and if you are hungry I suggest an extra portion of it.
I was lucky to get the shoyu broth which I found to be well balanced and deep. I can’t wait to try some of the other broths.
It is a little spendy, but it won’t break the bank completely.

TL;DR. 3.75. 1.75 for food and 2 for service. Will try again, hopefully it will be a different broth.
Left dissatisfied yesterday at the other place (Kukai in Northgate). Ramen round 2 today. Onibaba/​Miyabi does their ramen on Wednesday, so timing works out.
They are doing a curry ramen today. I wasn’t too hungry so didn’t order any small plates. FWIW, I didn’t like the selection on small plates, so that didn’t help.
I gotta say they have the best noodle around Seattle. Cooked perfectly, which is a rarity around here. The meat was generously cut, thick and tender. Come with 2 pieces and better than most competition. The egg is good too. I wish it comes with the whole egg instead of half. Veggies are OK, bamboo shoot taste a little blend to me.
What I think is disappointing is the broth, or being ‘curry ramen’ altogether. I was expecting a thicker curry broth, like that of a Japanese curry stew. It isn’t that. It is a clear broth with a hint of curry in it, which end up being a bit salty, at least for my taste. Ultimately, nothing in it seems curry to me.
Price is a bit on the higher end. $ 11+tax for the bowl. Value-​wise it isn’t too bad considering the competitions.
Overall score 3.75. 1.75 for food and 2 for service. I will give them another try later and hopefully they aren’t trying curry ramen again.

I love the urgency of a 2.5 hour window of availability (11:30−2 on Wednesdays) as it gives me something to look forward to throughout the week.
They rotate the style of ramen prepared (miso, shio, curry), with my favorite being the shouyu (with extra chyashu and an egg, of course). Generous portions, friendly staff.
Oh, and when I say favorite, I mean in all of Seattle.

potion is big too. Don’t forget to get Cauliflower Karaage.

This CAN be the best bowl of ramen in Seattle.
Why do I say «CAN»? Because Onibaba Ramen doesn’t have a set menu. The broth changes weekly. I went there yesterday for the Curry ramen and it was delicious.
The soft boiled egg was awesome.
The noodles were chewy!
The chashu was delish.
