The Seattle Official Bad Art Museum of Art is a fun, quirky place. It is located at Café Racer. Some of the art here is exactly that. Bad. Or tacky. There are velvet paintings of Elvis I believe. Something that my cousin would love. Hot Dogs throwing a green slime at respectable art. Paintings of two children smiling and looking away. That is scary. Even though the space is pretty small there is lots of bad art hung here and it seems like you are always finding something that you haven’t seen before. For me the most memorable piece of work here is a framed design made out of Peeps. Yes. Those marshmallow things you eat at Easter time. I still didn’t figure out what the design was supposed to be but I did see a heart shaped out of pink Peeps. Other than that I do not know what I was looking at. It was still cool though!

I frequented this place many times in my week long visit to Seattle. It was a bit of a hike from where my friend was staying, but the vibe was worth the trip. I made instant friends with the staff and the clientele. Played drums in the back with some youngin’s hanging out. The owner of the establishment explained her ideas for the place and the choices of odd artwork that you find around this bar/museum. Give it a whirl. You won’t be disappointed.

The Official Bad Art Museum of Art(acronym: OBAMA) is located at Café Racer in Seattle. The place is full of paint-by-numbers, black velvet paintings, pictures of kitties and children with big eyes and the ubiquitous dogs playing poker. There is a re-creation of «Starry Starry Night» by Van Gogh, done in yarn. There is even a Jesus of Peeps. The Bad Art Museum takes up about half of the restaurant/bar/café and then there is «good art» on the other side. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference! The food they serve is excellent downhome treats, such as the Wonder Weiner and an incredible corned beef hash for breakfasts on the weekend. Evenings, you can have a French Dip or a really great buyer with Tator Tots. Yum! Several beers on tap, full bar, espresso too! Live music almost every night of the week and a great Sunday Jazz Night rocks the house. Kid-friendly and old people like it too. The hours are about 10am to 2am every day.
