Nutty Squirrel Gelato – Seattle

This tiny little gelato shop impressed me in a big way. I was able to try a couple of their flavors and ended up with the Tiramisu. It was phenomenal!
I do wish they had a bit more flavors, but it was good enough since they at least had some staples like the stracciatella.
I will definitely come back here with my group of friends to try out their other flavors.

After being disappointed with the maple valley location, I decided to give it another try but at this location instead. The person serving is was awesome! She gave us real size scoop for ice cream and she was super nice. The ice cream was also flavorful as well. Overall, this place is way way way better than the maple valley location.

This is the best gelato I’ve had outside of Italy. The flavor are so fresh and delicious! I haven’t had a flavor I didn’t like. I recommend the pistachio or hazelnut.

Girlfriend and I decided to make a quick stop here on the way home from Green Lake. It was a sleepy afternoon so we had the place all to ourselves. The gal behind the counter was very nice and helpful in recommending flavors. She even pointed out all the different vegan options without us asking.
We were hoping for coconut but the flavors are rotated. So we ended up with strawberry and honey vanilla. It was delicious, despite being so cold outside!

Driven past Nutty Squirrel Gelato a gazillion times and never with parking karma. But for some reason, despite a full stomach full of Indian food, I was compelled to have some gelato on 4÷29÷16.
Drove up and down with the mindset must find parking… driving down the median, doing U-​turns, until success a few blocks away. Finally, entered the bright, inviting location, dazzled by the selections, great background information provided by the counter person, paid and was about to delve in, and my son commented about something I wasn’t proud of.
In my laser focused, driven need for gelato, I had essentially cut off another customer in line. That even mortified my son. Even another trio had cut her off too. She was patient (the type of person who wouldn’t honk her horn or flip you off in traffic)…that level of Seattle niceness.
Anyways, she was trying samples and noticed that I was hovering nearby. Paused and wondered if I had a question for the counter person as her order was being filled. No, I didn’t, I apologized for absentmindedly cutting in line and said I am paying for her order. She protested and stated that wasn’t necessary, but finally acquiesced when I stood my ground by the Square register.
Finally seated at the window counter, ancient Catholic guilt assuaged, I savored that full flavored, smooth chocolate gelato. Wow! Taste buds fully dazzled. Even tried some of the kiddo’s raspberry gelato… ever eat fresh raspberries picked directly from the cane on a warm summer day? Yes, that intense.
Terrific counter person kindly rewarded my bungled first visit with a freebie coupon, to add to my newly minted stamp card. Definitely Nutty Squirrel has a dedicated return customer. Lots of gelato spots in Seattle, even another indie ice cream spot a few blocks away, but the wait was well worth stopping by. Next time with more attention while driving and no line cutting!

First timers and very impressed with this sweet, clean, bright little gelato shop. Upon hearing it was our first time, the hostess, unprompted, gave us samples of buttery Salted Caramel and light Stracciatella flavors. We decided on Panna Cotta and Salted Caramel, both excellent and perfect in consistency and flavor, and enjoyed it in their small, quiet seating area. Will be back again now that we have a punch card. :-)

I absolutely love this place. Delicious gelato. Was lucky enough to go to tasting this January and was blown away but the unique flavors. Highly recommend grapefruit, licorice, and earl grey! Haven’t had anything here that wasn’t great. Yummy lava cakes and european drinking coffee too. Great neighborhood business too that support the community. Nice staff. Really wonderful.

I recently walked by and was tempted to stop in. The space was inviting and the staff on Saturday during the day was very friendly. I took home a pint of the sorbetto and it was delicious. Will definitely make my way back.

First time and day in Seattle and stumbled upon this place as we were exploring and am so glad we came in. This place is so cute! And the girl working here is adorable! Gelato is pretty delish as well!

I have been here several times and have enjoyed every flavor I’ve tasted and the service is always friendly and great but today Nutty Squirrel went above and beyond to show how they truly are an amazing part of the neighborhood.
I walked with my son to get some gelato for a special mommy/​son «date» and saw a sign that they were closed for a holiday party. We didn’t even have time to be disappointed because the owner came and opened the door and let us in. We had our tastes, ordered and when I told my son we shouldn’t sit down since they opened just for us we were told to relax and enjoy. While we were eating the candy cane and chocolate coconut gelato (both fantastic), he brought me an espresso and a candy cane for my son… so generous and welcoming!
You can’t beat their service or the gelato!

You don’t see a lot of businesses on Unilocal!with 5 star ratings across the board, especially a business with more than 5 – 10 reviews. But the folks at Nutty Squirrel deserve it. I had the pleasure of meeting the founder in one of my visits to get gelato with a friend of mine and it’s inspiring how passionate he is about his product. Any average restauranteur, retailer, small business owner, etc could learn from these people.
Stop by & have some samples. The only way you’ll walk out in love with their gelato is if you just hate gelato. To which I say, who do you think you are?!

Mu girlfriends and I wanted to top off our nights with something sweet and decided on gelato (despite it being 30 degrees out). Not sure how we found ourselves at Nutty Squirrel but I am so glad we did.
This location opened just a few months back, but their first location is in Maple Valley and they have been in business for a few years. They specialize in gelato but they also have a small selection of sorbetos. Everything is made in small batches in their kitchens at the Maple Valley locations and flavors change up every few days. You can easily tell which is which by the color of the name, the black wording are gelato — milk based and the sorbetos are in red.
The staff is just great, she explained the difference between the sorbet and gelato and even went as far as to explain the origin and makeup of each flavor we were curious about. She gave us generous samples and not once did I feel pressured to hurry up and make a decision.
They have one size that you can mix up to two flavors. I was absolutely and completely obsessed with their honey yogurt gelato. It was slightly sweet and a bit tangy but not overwhelmingly. I paired that with their lemon sorbet which had pieces of lemon zest and was refreshingly light.
The shop is small but they do have a small seating area off to the side. They also have the cutest little seating area with mini beanbags — great for photo ops!

Nutty Squirrel has usurped Molly Moon’s spot as my favorite frozen dessert place. All their flavors are on point and the texture is light and creamy. My favorite flavor combo is coconut and coffee. My husband loves the straciatella. We were on a diet recently that allowed us to save points to cheat and we always saved our points for Nutty Squirrel.

My husband and I stopped in as a last ditch effort to save a failed evening (we were really looking forward to a trivia night, which was unexpectedly cancelled and left us dejected). Boy oh boy did Nutty Squirrel swoop in to save the day.
The manager working gave us samples without us even hinting that we wanted any, she was SUPER thorough when I posed the question of «what differentiates gelato from ice cream» and handed us an adorably-​made and informative flyer, and was generally really friendly.
A small serving isn’t all that small — it’s dense stuff and really filling/​satisfying. In a small you can get two different flavors.
My Porter gelato tasted just like a porter (but is totally alcohol-​free as it’s cooked out in the making) and coupled aaaamazingly with the Dark Chocolate. (I wouldn’t recommend getting the Porter on its own if you’re craving something sugary as it’s naturally a little on the bitter side.)
My companion paired the same Dark Chocolate with Coconut and was pretty much in heaven as well. All the gelato was really thick and rich and you get to eat it with a teeny tiny spoon so you savor each bit of it. :)
The price is definitely fair. AND you get 10% off if it’s your first visit!!!

This is bar far the best Gelato and Sorbet I have ever had outside of German and Italy. Come spend some time with this hand made art.

Got there minutes after he closed; he opened back up to serve us. Incredible coffee gelato. Definitely my fav in Seattle!

I live gelato and Nutty Squirrel does it right. The value proposition is that gelato is kept at a warmer temp than ice cream, is made with milk rather than cream and this allows the taste to come through better. It’s also not as heavy. There are about 9 flavors at any given time. The Stracciatella is the bomb, but they have lots of other excellent flavors such as pistachio, too. We love walking down Greenwood and stopping here for a less heavy snack! Highly recommend.

This is some freakishly good gelato. I had chocolate and salted caramel. Both were excellent, my favorite was the caramel which was exceptionally well balanced and not too salty. My friend had cherry and hazelnut, which were both good as well. I liked the fun and fresh feel of the store and the gelato scoopers were knowledgeable and friendly. If they start making dark chocolate orange, I may never have to go back to Italy!

Looks like I’m the first review here! Went here with my wife on Sunday night and was blown away at the quality of the gelato. Probably the best we’ve had in Seattle. I had the coconut and salted caramel. The coconut was super light, fluffy, and flavorful and the salted caramel was definitely intense, but in a good way. Wife had the strawberry which was probably the best strawberry I’ve ever had.
I guess they have over 100 flavors that they rotate out seasonally, so we’re excited to see what else they offer.
Line was out the door when we got there, but moved fairly quickly. It was really hot in the store while waiting though.
Overall, very impressed and I’m glad there’s such a good gelato place north of Ballard.
