James Street 76

Since I do not drive I don’t get gas their, I like the great candy selection and the staff are nice, they lock the door at midnight so if a late night beer run is in the cards forget about it.

This was my go-​to convenience store for a couple years while I lived in First Hill. I got to know some of the cashiers, who were very friendly. One of them recommended their chocolate peanut butter Rice Krispie treats to me. She said that they were really rich and I wouldn’t be able to eat the whole thing, but GUESS WHAT? I totally ate the whole thing.
I recently returned here after my friend’s car which I was borrowing overheated, due to being stuck in One Direction concert traffic downtown (damn you, 1D!!!). I am not a car owner and was pretty clueless about what to do. I went to good old James Street 76 to purchase some coolant and asked the cashier, Nick, for help. He was happy to assist, and I now know how to add coolant to a radiator. This is a good place with good people and great customer service. Seriously, try that chocolate peanut butter Rice Krispie treat!

i usually get my gas as far away from seatle when i can but when i am low on gas i go to there «james streen 76» good precise. i think there gas is better then other gas stations.

For years I have been going to this gas station as I live closeby, but after tonight I don’t see myself going there unless I have an absolute emergency.
Tonight my tank of gas was almost empty so I went to my apartment to get quarters, I was planning on using them for laundry but I needed to ensure I could get to work in the morning. When I walked up to the counter with my coins I was told, «Before you do anything my drawer is full so I can’t take anymore coin, I already have 42 dollars of rolled coin in here.» I then asked about the coworker standing next to her and she said there was only the one drawer. I gave the bills I had but didn’t get as much gas as I wanted, and this left me wondering how there was no way the coin she had could be put anywhere else to make at least a little room. Also the coin I had wasn’t pennies either, it was almost all quarters and as I have been turned down by them for quarters in the past I know they are something they sometimes need (although it looks like only when it is convenient). I could understand not wanting to take all of the eight dollars I had, but I feel like at least offering to take a dollar or two in quarters wouldn’t be too much to ask.
Anyway I have tolerated the sky high prices for gas and groceries here for a while, but I don’t plan on that any longer as there is zero regard for customer service unless you have gotten on the good side of the cashier.
I have added one star for the great beer selection here as well as when I met the owner once he seemed nice, but the service of the staff here is frequently abysmal.

Do not get gas here unless you are almost to empty and won’t make it to another station. There is not another gas station in the immediate area, and they are near the freeway on/​off ramps, so they charge AT LEAST 20 cents more per gallon than any other station. Ugh.

This is your average convenience store/​gas station, however the staff and manager are talkative and friendly and have a great beer selection. When my biggest concern is the contents of their chili-​cheese machine (and to that I am an embarrassed connoisseur), I’ll consider this a good location :)

A year later — I am still lacking in automotive transportation so I can’t/won’t speak to their gas prices…
But man. I love this station.
The owner is a beer lover and takes recommendations that CW and I give him seriously. He’ll tell us if he’s getting something in special, or give us discounts when he needs to get rid of a last 6 pack or two before restocking it with something else.
All the employees are swell — friendly, chatty, and love it when I bring the dog in for a visit. Helo gets a week worth of lubbin every time we visit here.
For snacks, emergency needs (tp! eggs! milk) the location couldn’t be more convenient.
So yeah, it’s a swell station. And for the rest of you all out there, I just hope the gas prices match up with everything else they have going right here.

If only this gas station weren’t so incredibly convenient. It is much more expensive than other gas stations, but it *can* be, because people will come no matter what. I am suckered in so often that I recently became the Dutchess. Goodness!
Be careful in the area late in the evenings. Nothing bad has ever happened to me, but I’ve been approached by men near the gas station in the past. If you park on the nearby streets, be sure to park close.

Good choice for a quick camping junk food and beer run. The guys at the register are always friendly and witty. Love that.

It may seem silly to review a gas station, but had it not been for Tom B’s note on this 76, I would have been a crying mess, running out of gas while I circled around cruising for a parking spot.
This neighborhood is hard to navigate, but this 76 station makes it a little bit easier. Thanks!

Often the least-​expensive gas on the hill – better still, easy to get in and out, compared to other stations in the neighborhood. Helps remedy the knack I seem to have for nearly running out of gas in this neighborhood.

Its a gas station. But the clerks are awesome!

Not a fan of this gas station. The staff are nice enough, but for some reason it’s considerably more expensive than nearby stations. Zipcar fill ups are also often problematic because their credit card readers don’t always accept the Zipcar gas card. Not a lot else to say about this station except that its sandwich selection is hurting.

Great if you need Diesel if not go else where
they are like .20 cents more than the Shell on 12^th and James so drive the 5 blocks and save 20 Cents a gallon
this is the only thing I hate about living in the city, not only do we pay more in fuel tax in King county, but also the gas stations like to gouge you as they know you can’t go any where else they have you by the balls
so learn where the other gas stations are at and save a few bucks

They are the only gas station I know of on Capitol Hill /​First Hill that sells DIESEL fuel. Comes in handy when my VW Jetta is running out of fuel and I’m near home.
