Hot and delicious. Simple flavor, but really fresh and tasty. Perfect Udon texture. Wonderful service.

Warm, cheap and SOTASTY. In under 10 minutes you have yourself a humble udon bowl to take home and warm your belly. Slightly sweet yet spicy and herby broth with fresh veggies and flavourful meat. Plus, the lone chef is a sweetheart. Wallingford gem!

I tried it, ordered a rice and a udon, I didn’t even take out I just ate it there… it was so bad! The soup tastes artificial, the chicken tastes caged chicken with lots of hormones and the rice unbearable. Any Asian chef must be able to cook rice!!! It’s just unacceptable! Yes the veggies he gives you a lot yes it’s super quick yes the prices are undeniably attractive. So you make your call. But for sure I would not go back again ever and would never recommend it to anyone unless someone asks where to get cheap Asian fast food but then just buy instant noodles and dump a lot of veggies in?

This place is an awesome little udon shop. It’s a humble takeout window with the most friendly man running the place. The food is great and it always comes with a friendly smile. There’s a tip jar out, but all of the tips are donated to the needy. They’re only open till 6 though so get there early.

Asian fusion is right! Not your typical Udon here, and that’s a great thing. Got the curry udon, expecting typical Japanese curry flavor — not at all. Slightly sweet, slightly tangy, spicy, complex and hearty soup along with a good amount of noodles, incredibly flavorful shredded chicken breast that was so good it tasted like Carnitas, and fresh vegetables with crunch to them. 8 bucks flat. Not cheap, but very much worth what you pay. Though it’s only one man in there and the wait might be a factor, you’ll find yourself pleasantly surprised by the flavors you find here.

Lovely neighborhood udon shop just popped up in the university district. The udon soup is delicious, fresh and prepared in a great home style. You can tell that a lot of love went into preparing and serving this food. I especially liked talking to the owner and chef on a slower evening. I can’t wait to go back :)

Great food! Totally modest, humble setup(it’s just a walk-up window and a couple of wooden stools outside) — so if you’re looking for fancy, move on. The food is great, and you can tell it’s a labor or love. This is what street food is all about.

Sooooo good! Owner/cook is very friendly and nice. Customer service was awsome. Tip this man because he gives it to the less fortunate. Great food. I ordered the Thai lunch box chicken with veggies and oyster sauce. Scrumptious!!!

Oh my god, you guys. This place is fantastic. Had the curried pork udon and it was really good. Great value! Only downside is it closes at 6, so I can’t always get there in time for dinner.

I love love love this place. Food is tasty, the chef is so super friendly, takeout is quick and neat, and it always comes with a fortune cookie which makes me smile :) I am from Japan and a big udon fan, and I can tell you that this is not your traditional Japanese udon that you expect. And sure the noodle is a little on a soft side. But that’s okay. I LOVE his spicy soup and lots of veggies. Just think it as Thai style udon. It’s delicious! Besides udon, he also started to offer Thai lunch boxes for $ 7. I absolutely love these too. There are four different stir fries and rice sets. The portion is huge, but it’s so tasty I always finish them all! And above all, I am just amazed by how much he does in that small place. He does everything so quickly and neat. It’s fascinating. So when you find this tiny place, make sure to watch how he makes your food!!!

This tiny storefront is two blocks down from our new home, and we’ve walked past it a lot in the last two weeks. Today I stopped in after a sweaty uphill bike ride, and picked up a pork and veggie stir fry that was made to order in about four minutes. The food was good – not exceptional, but a totally solid lunch for $ 7 even. The pork was surprisingly tender and almost as plentiful as the vegetables(snow peas, celery, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, tomatoes). Also, the owner, Pat, is a lovely human being. Nice to have him nearby.

I am so delighted right now. It’s raining out and I am tucked away in the cutest hole-in– the-wall enjoying some delicious pork udon. The broth is clear and flavorful, the vegetables are fresh and the grilled cilantro-garlic pork makes for a perfect meal. I’m about to order another one to take home for dinner. Tip: Bring cash!

Stop by and pick up some yummy udon from Pat! I’ve been here a few times and it’s been delicious every single time! Pat is very friendly and he keeps a clean and orderly kitchen. He only accepts cash and donates all tips to Solid Ground, but there is a Wallgreens right across the street and an ATM right around the corner. He also just started serving Thai rice bowls which looked delicious! For $ 8 you get at least 2 servings of udon, so this is not a bad deal at all. It’s not your traditional Japanese udon, but it tastes great and is packed with fresh meat and veggies. He also uses organic tofu, which I happen to prefer. My only negative is the lack of seating, but I’m happy ordering out.

A small shop set-up next to an auto store. 3 stars for food and an additional star for the service. It is a single person shop and the owner is very friendly and nice. There are 2 seats on the side, otherwise expect to take your food to go. It’s not your typical flavored udon, so don’t go in expecting that. I ordered the chashu udon and it came with a good amount of noodles and a cut up piece of chashu. For $ 8, it is an ok price, maybe a little expensive by a dollar, but considering that it is a small shop that mainly serves to go customers, I can see why the price is that much.

If you’re able to find this little udon stand, you must stop! Came here for lunch last week and the guy that runs it is so friendly! All udons are $ 8(includes tax) and there’s about 5 – 6 different options. We got the curry pork and garlic chicken — both were very good! Everything is homemade and there were quite a few fresh veggies in our bowls. Very generous portions for both meat, noodles, and broth. I would recommend getting this to go as there is very limited seating(2 seats at a bar and 2 lawn chairs), and eating is difficult without a table. Can’t wait to come back!

Just one guy making udon and selling out of a window connected to an auto parts store. There are two bar stools in a little outside nook where you can watch him cook while you eat your udon. It was ok udon, but not great for the price. Very broth heavy with not much stuff in it(noodles, meat, veg) Take-out only(except for those two seats). Cash only.

I love the idea of a small business giving it a go. This is a one-man Udon utopia run by Pat Tharachai. He is extremely pleasant and has great smile. There were about 6 types of Udon, all for $ 8 to go. The tip jar goes to Solid Ground. The kitchen is tiny and fully visible from the counter. Everything looked clean and fresh. We ordered the Chicken Udon and the Curry Chicken Udon and both were very tasty. Go Udon! Lots of fresh veggies and the broth had a great, complex flavor with a slight sweetness and spice.

GMO free tofu! Peanut allergy friendly restaurant! Really good food! I walked by this place a few times, and I thought about eating here and never tried it until today. Today was cold, windy, and this soup hit the spot! I got an organic tofu and vegetables Udon soup to go, and it was amazing. Today I worked for 8 straight hours and I didn’t even stop to eat lunch, so I was starving. After my bowl of Udon, I am completely full. Of healthy food. I am glad I went to this place, there were lots of fresh ingredients in the neat, clean space. I love asian food, but I realize that 90% of all soybeans are genetically modified. Whenever I eat out, I sadly think that my tofu is probably made out of Monsanto’s Roundup Ready soybeans, which is poisoning the Earth, mutating our DNA, and messing up our bodies. I don’t want to support Monsanto when I go out to eat, so I was thrilled when I saw the sign advertising that they use organic tofu! Hooray! Obviously this business owner respects his customers and the planet. The noodles had the perfect texture: they were fluffy. The variety of vegetables in the soup made for a hearty complete taste. There were sliced small grilled cherry tomatoes and bamboo shoots that complimented each other very well. There was some kind of green leafy vegetable, in the soup and it was excellent.

So this udon stand really is a bit of an enigma. The cuisine definitely is not traditional Japanese style udon by any chance. The noodles are not fresh made, the menu is not too traditional, and it incorporates flavors and stylings from other Asian and South-East Asian food. The owner, however, is an outstanding fellow. He was very energetic and friendly, and all tips went to charity, which I thought was very cool. You could tell he was very into quality and cleanliness. The stand has glass on all sides and you could see into the kitchen — everything was neat and organized and clean. Five stars for this guy being so awesome and ethically inclined. The food however, was quite a surprise. I ordered what seemed to be the most traditional item on the menu — grilled pork Udon soup. I expected traditional udon with a hondashi driven clean broth, but instead was introduced to a soup that had white mushrooms, spinach, and bamboo shoots. The soup was also not very traditional, although it was very hearty and flavorful. I don’t think any MSG was used, which is good. My friend got the curry chicken udon, which used more south-east asian type of curry powder, rather than the Japanese style. In all honesty, I can only give the food three stars. Everything came in to-go containers, food took about 5 minutes. The pork was fresh grilled though and admittedly very delicious. For food, this place was only OK — you’d be better off with U: Don in the U District for traditional, but it doesn’t hurt to swing by and meet this really fun owner.
