Business Owner

I began working with, learning from, and teaching dogs in 2003 when my wife and I rescued Vida in Los Angeles, CA. We fell in love with this hyperactive, under-​socialized girl who was a bit growly with other dogs. Learning how to help Vida feel more comfortable the world guided my path to an eventual career with dogs.

In 2004, I began working professionally with dogs at a high end grooming shop in Seattle. Working in close contact with dogs, learning more about different breeds and how and why dogs behave, spiked my curiously and inspired me to open my own business and to continue my education.

A strong desire to be a better teacher to dogs, lead me to Sequim, WA and Legacy Canine, where I enrolled in a course for dog trainers.

In March of 2008, I earned a Certificate in Training and Counseling from the most advanced dog training program, the Academy for Dog Trainers at the San Francisco SPCA. I graduated at the top of my class.

We have found the greatest dog walker in Seattle: David the Dog Walker
My lovely bride loves her puppy more than me: He eats better, gets constant scratching and cuddling, is offered the premier seat on the couch during TV time, and gets snuggled like a baby all night. I have accepted it, moved on, and I am better now. Anyway, we both work and while he is the most chill dog you will ever meet, sleeping 20 hours a day, we feel bad about leaving him in his kennel when we are away at the J-​O-​B.
Right after moving to Seattle, we got a recommendation for a walker from ta local Blog and while the service was fine at first, she went downhill fast: forgot to walk him sometimes, would come just before 5:00pm, took off with no notice and we would have to scramble to find an alternative. We happened upon David and his wife, Angela, also through WSB and we clicked immediately. They run a real business: certifications, a website, insurance, everything. They are both incredibly consciousness about what they do, have a back-​up when they go on vacation, they let us know right away if there was anything out of the ordinary, AND our dog loves them. David and Angela have worked with Brodie for almost two years and I cannot give them or their service high enough praise.

David the Dog Trainer is absolutely fantabulous! I rescued a shepherd mix dog last May 09. It was a spur of the moment decision to adopt her. I have had small dogs all my life and never really trained them. So, after walking out the door with my shepherd mix dog Sienna, I thought OMG… what did i get myself into. She pulled, lunged at people who would walk by us, and chased everything that moved. I thought to myself, «what did I get myself into!!» So, I jumped onto google and started searching for dog trainers and asked around… and I stumbled across David. I was a bit skeptical… as I always am about new things/​people. However, we found David to be patient, knowledgeable and just freakin awesome!!! ^_^
It now has been about a year, we have seen so much progress with Sienna’s behavior! She walks 100% better and David has taught us how to teach her other behaviors than lunging/​barking and chasing little critters when on leash with positive reinforcement training. David really helped me to train Sienna with lure-​reward training and shaping. Rather than telling me to «alpha roll» my dog and «put her in her place» type of training. I have received so many compliments from people saying «wow, what a well behaved dog, I wish my dog behaved like yours!» Not only is David awesome, but his wife has accompanied him to Sienna’s sessions and she is nothing but awesome too!
I would HIGHLY recommend David Hogan as your future dog trainer or walker! You won’t be disappointed! You will reap the amazing rewards of having a well trained pup as I have! ^_​^

***UPDATE*** We originally wrote a review back in 2008. It is now April, 2012, and we cannot say enough good things about David and his crew. David walks our male Great Dane mentioned below, who is now approaching 5 years old. He also walks our second male dane, who is 2−½. Both are big strong boys with lots of energy and moxie. David and crew not only do a wonderful job walking, but have also helped immensely in training the boys with good manners. I will add that David’s outfit is 100% reliable. They have never missed a beat all these years.

We’ve used David the Dog Walker to walk our Great Dane puppy for about 6 months now and have been very pleased. David’s service is the third we tried and we were not impressed with the prior two. That’s not the case with David the Dog Walker. He runs his business well and has great staff. Very reliable and conscientious.
We’ve also attended David’s Good Manners 101 class and used him for one-​on-​one training. Our pup is very strong-​willed and we’ve seen real improvement in his behavior. We highly recommend David the Dog Walker!

so if i *were* to waddly my way up to Seattle I’d have to be waddle-​walked, which for me means about 15 minutes two or three times a day, that’s in the spring time when i have more jowl in my jowls, and even though i haven’t ever met David the Dog Walker, i can just tell he’d be the waddle-​walker i’d choose. i mean, how many dogwalkers have you known fly to another city, let alone LA where you spend more than half your shelf-​life in the backseat of a car, to attend a dog psychology workshop? the only other one i’d trust is that guy on the animal channel who knows how to tame a bad dog in one day. good body language makes a good doggie!
