Culture Shakti Dance

I am dancing with Culture Shakti for a month and already have few awesome moments. Culture Shakti teaches various types of dance to their own perfections. They are creative with their own steps and methods to remember those steps. I personally have interacted with Katrina and love dancing with her.

I love coming here! Katrina is a very patient, positive teacher. Her class is always a happy event in my week. It’s also great as a 38 year old with no dance background to feel comfortable in a class setting! I take the Bollywood classes and there is plenty of opportunity to perform as well, if that’s your thing :) She offers a good deal for taking as many classes as you want and paying only a monthly fee. And I agree with everyone else, the studio itself is beautiful and spacious. Try it, you’ll like it!

I love Skin Deep for may reasons, it’s conveniently located right off the Beacon Hill light rail station. I work downtown and I bus in from West Seattle anyways, so it just takes me 20 min on the train to get there. If you drive, there is lots of parking on the North side of the building and on street. The studio is in an old school, studio is on the second floor. Beautiful place! Dark woods, red walls, large mirrors and windows, lots of natural light. They also have a lot of merchandise for purchase.
I’ve been taking Katrina’s classes for almost two years now, at first it was on/​off but now I can’t get enough. She is encouraging, professional and always looking on the bright side. I’ve also been to other classes at the studio taught by other instructors, they are all informative and wonderful in there own ways.

I found Skin Deep Dance on Beacon Hill an inviting and safe environment to learn the many styles of dance including American Tribal Style. I have studied at several other studios and Skin Deep really feels like home. Katrina has a very down to earth and grounded method of teaching. A studio mantra of «no negative self talk» encourages positive growth in dance. It is also «body positive» studio and is welcoming to dancers of all shapes and sizes. I also like that I can bring my kids to events at the studio as well.

Usually the first thing people do when they walk into the Skin Deep studio is remark upon what a pretty space it is. With its high ceilings, beautiful dark wood floors, tall windows and deep red walls you can’t help but think you’re lucky to dance somewhere so lovely. A converted classroom in an old school building, there are lots of little cubbies for storing personal belongings safely out of the way. Big mirrors line one wall. The space is well-​lit and features a professional sound system.
Skin Deep Dance offers many different kinds of specialty dance and fitness classes such as American Tribal Style (ATS) bellydance, Bollywood dance, NIA and more. I have taken mainly ATS, tribal fusion bellydance and conditioning for bellydance at Skin Deep. I have found all the instructors to be very knowledgeable, professional and welcoming.
In addition to regular weekly classes, the studio plays host to occasional workshops by local, national and international performers. Past and upcoming workshop instructors include Deb Rubin, Rose Harden, Tempest, Samantha Riggs, members of Fat Chance Belly Dance and many others.
Owner and ATS instructor Katrina tries to make Skin Deep a truly friendly and safe place to learn to dance. It is clear she loves what she does and she strives to build a community around the love of dance. She is herself a graceful dancer and a perceptive teacher. I have truly enjoyed her gentle style of teaching. I have never felt embarrassed or self-​conscious in her classes, only encouraged.
Whether you are new to dance or are already an experienced dancer, you will find something that appeals to you. From weekly classes geared towards beginners to high-​level advanced workshops, there is truly something for everyone.

Only positive things to say about this studio. I originally signed up for the Bollywood class, took it for the 6-​week session, signed up for the next session and added an additional Bollywood prep class. The studio is offering a couple other classes I want to try (belly dance & bhangra) so I am purchasing the unlimited-​classes package since I will be taking 4 – 5 classes a week. I can’t get enough of this place — warm, inviting, no self-​consciousness. Katrina is a wonderful instructor. She’s in tune with her students — goes slow enough for us to learn the steps but fast enough that the energy level stays high and we get a workout. Gender doesn’t matter. Wide variety of ages, sizes and fitness levels. Everyone has the biggest grins on their faces the entire time. I look forward to class every week and leave feeling happy and energized.

Had the opportunity to work with Katrina in another location and she was wonderful and very helpful to someone like me (a non-​dancer). I enjoyed learning this accepting style of dance and would recommend Katrina as a teacher for anyone interested– at any level.
She also does kids programs!

I’m still grinning at my brilliance at picking Skin Deep as the place to learn to bellydance. Katrina’s kind, extremely observant, and breaks everything down clearly and with great humor. Us beginners seem to be — well, I felt myself to be — enfolded by more experienced dancers who attend the classes as well, which means I always feel like I’ve got two or three other badass Mamas around to teach me. I’ve never seen impatience expressed toward anyone, much less scorn or competitiveness. Katrina’s created a beautiful environment, and plays fantastic music. It feels good to be there, and to dance with these ladies. They’re all of them extraordinary. Get there. Wiggle with us.

Skindeep is fabulous! If you are looking for somewhere to look like a jackass trying a new dance for the first time and feel safe, happy and have a blast while you are doing it, this is the spot! The studio director Katrina is awesome and cultivates a very upbeat, fun but professional environment. The studio is a warm, low-​key place with a great big window and a homey feel. All of the teachers I’ve had that were top notch. Go go go go!

Took belly dancing and can’t wait to go back. Great Instructors that are patient and reassuring! Loads of fun and free spirited energy! A must try! Can’t wait to return for round two of Belly dancing!

This is a small specialty studio, no ballet, no salsa, but heavy on the types of movement that are good for the body and soul. They have zumba and Nia, as well as bollywood, bellydance, and African. The classes are small with excellent instructors who really care. I almost want to keep it a secret, but I want others to be able to enjoy this hidden treasure, too.

I had no idea this lil gem studio was located on Beacon Hill until a friend recently pointed it out!
Yoga is cancelled for now, but there is a cool Nia Class I must get up early and try that one too!
I took a great punk rock yoga class on Sat morning @ 10 am.
The instructor was really good. It was a creative, fun yoga flow class with some meditation. All types of folks and style levels are welcome here. I felt at ease right away.
It was a good workout for only $ 10.00 drop in fee. They have live band some days and otherwise good down tempo style background music.
I will drop in again for sure.
