Pleasant experience

My wife and I have lived here for about 18 months now, across two units.
Fantastic staff (though there has been a lot of turnover recently — Daunte is sorely missed but his replacement, Josh, has proven friendly), fun community events.
Very solid amenities (and I would hope so, because rent isn’t cheap) — great, expansive roof deck with grills available, two dog areas (one ground level, one on the roof), vending machines on the roof, solid fitness room, great community room with TV and kitchen available to reserve (for free!), a conference room next to it. One of the more unique amenities is that one of the units is available to rent for guests, similar to a hotel.
The roof deserves special mention because it’s not just a roof deck — there is a covered lounge area with TV, tables, chairs, foosball, and a chess set. It’d be great if there was a bathroom up there as well, but unfortunately not. Guests will need to be chauffeured to your apartment or the first floor to do their business. Since the building’s security is so tight (no elevator access without a keycard, even when using the callbox), guests cannot get to and from your apartment or the roof without your card.
One downside is that being in First Hill, many of the nearby businesses close super early — like, 6−7pm during the week and not much later on weekends. This is usually before I get home from work. The positive side is that you are super close to Broadway and Cap Hill (and 24-​hour QFC, for groceries!), so there are usually alternate options.
The units themselves are nice. We started out in a «penthouse» unit (top 3 floors), which had extras like underlit, soft-​closing cabinets, included CondoInternet (100 mbps), and nicer appliances. We’ve since moved downstairs to a cheaper, larger unit. We don’t miss the penthouse amenities that much and saved so much per month with the move that we don’t miss the free Internet, either — I sprung for the gigabit CondoInternet package and we’re still paying less.
My biggest gripe is that the units aren’t air conditioned. I know this isn’t common in Seattle, but when we’re talking luxury level apartments, why not? Some nearby new constructions (Lyric, Cielo) have air conditioning. It’s almost a slap in the face how cool and nice the lobby and hallways are, but they stop there. My apartment is currently an oven, and it’s miserable.
There is also a wait list for parking, and like everywhere else in Seattle, it’s brutally expensive. Last I checked it was over $ 200/​month. Can’t blame them, really, but that doesn’t make it a positive. There are two Zipcar spots on-​site and one of them has been a rather affordable Kia, recently. So that’s super convenient, at least.
We’ve signed one new lease already and will likely renew again, assuming rent doesn’t go up astronomically. That’s a first since moving to the city and speaks to how happy we’ve been overall. We do like the building — with air conditioning it would be a solid five stars, but it’s a hard point to forgive.

This place has pros and cons.
Pros:
Great location, in terms of easy access to I-​5 and walking distance to downtown or Capitol Hill.
Relatively new facilities, laminate floors that look like wood, hard surface counter-​tops, etc.
Pet friendly community.
Bathrooms are decent in size.
Washer/​dryer in unit.
Cons:
There’s ONLY TWO ELEVATORS for a 17+ story building jam packed with units. You’ll be waiting for a while to take the elevators during commute times.
Great location, in terms of plenty of homeless and/​or crazy people who are cracked out and sometimes even threaten to hurt you. I personally have been assaulted twice during daylight hours near the building.
The security system they have in place is flawed and becomes more of a burden on the residents than a method to keep non-​residents out.
There’s always a waiting list for parking. There’s only 2 levels of parking and the spaces they do have are tiny. All other residents will be offered parking at the Swedish Hospital garage.
Lots of dogs. There’s always some folks who don’t pick up after their pet in the rooftop deck. Watch your step.
The vents are inter-​connected. During dinnertime, I can smell what my neighbor had for dinner through the vents. To get rid of the smell, I have to turn on the vent to suck the air out, otherwise, the smell of their food stays in.
South and West sides of the building — All units become an oven during the spring/​summer. There’s no a.c. in the units and the concrete building absorbs all the heat.
Northeast side of the building — If you open your window, it smells like the garbage dump because you’re right over it. Perhaps not so much an issue if you’re on the higher floors.
East side of the building — your view is of the giant antennae towers.

I loved living here! The apartments are beautiful, excellent amenities, amazing rooftop, the staff here plan awesome events and the staff here are just amazing.
What was surprising to me is that the staff are genuinely nice people and not evil at all like most apartment leasing staff. I had to break my lease because I was relocating for my new job. The leasing staff helped me find someone who would be willing to take over my lease rather than just charging me the penalty of breaking my lease. It surprised me that they rather help me than just charge my lease breakage fees, I really do appreciate that.

Lived in Coppins Well for the year I was in Seattle for work. The place was always clean and that staff was amazing. Daunte is the nicest concierge ever! If I moved back to Seattle, I would definitely live here again.

I’ve lived at Coppins Well since the inception of 2014 and am pleased with my decision to move from an older building down the street. The staff is top notch and really makes you feel at home. Usually in a building, there is a tenant or two that you’re not a fan of, but (knock on wood), I’ve yet to notice any negative or creepy tenants! Also, the 3^rd floor, which I’ve rented out twice for small gatherings, is such a great amenity, given I live in a studio. That said, the studio is quite functional, and coming from a 1BR flat, I still feel like the square footage is well purposed.
The best part of this building is the rooftop, and it’s expansive views of Rainer, the sound, and Lake Union.

I had the need for a short term lease and this place is the best. Smoking fast internet, real 80 Mbps download for $ 60 a month. Walk to great lunch spots. Great meeting rooms hardly ever used, clean, great design, a great spot. Staff is helpful understanding and really flexible and supportive, no matter how many packages I had coming through which was a lot.

This has got to be one of the best places to live in Seattle. I was there over one Summer and this place is fantastic in terms of public transport connectivity, proximity to Downtown and grocery shops/​restaurants nearby.
The rent is on the higher side and I couldn’t afford this over a year. But that is to be expected in Seattle these days.
The building is very new (its an under-​construction site on Google maps). So the apartments are pristine. The fittings are good quality and we never had any problems with the apartment over 3 months.
Last but not the least, the staff is awesome! They go out of the way to make you feel comfortable and go out of their way to help you out. Also there’s a community event on the premises almost every week if you are one who likes to know their neighbours.

What a wonderful surprise this is!
Our daughter has an apartment here, and it is beautiful. So, when coming to visit, we find out they have «rental» units for us! We get to be close, yet still have our own space.
Better than ANY hotel we have stayed in. Fully furnished. Walking distance to everything we need and more!
Amenities within are beyond expectations!

First, because it has been the most significant difference from ALL of my previous rental experiences, I must start with commending and praising the great individuals that work at Coppins Well. The staff at CW went above and beyond for my Husband and me during a difficult and stressful move-​out/​move-​in situation. Not only were they fantastic for accommodating our oddball situation, but also remain so for ensuring our comfort and satisfaction to this day, whether it be the office staff, maintenance, our concierge Daunte, or even housekeeping. They have all made us feel more comfortable and welcome and generally ‘taken care of’ than either of us have experienced at any of our previous residences – and I’ve lived on my own since I was seventeen. Also: the safest, as the security here is pretty fantastic. They are all committed to maintaining the quality, elegance, safety, and beauty of this property in ways I’ve never seen before, which says something about the pride they all take in their work.
Second, the common spaces that are available to us here at CW are unparalleled. The gym is on the second floor (and never bothers us). The Great Room and Coppins Room and terrace are located near our apartment and we have never experienced any ‘extra noise’ because of the proximity. Unless someone is very close to our door and talking loudly or laughing, I never hear neighbors (who are also very friendly). The walls are nice and insulated and help tremendously in that regard. And the roof? By far one of the most pleasant places in the entire city capable of a 360 degree view (if you get in the dog pen) of the beautiful Cascades, Olympics, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Puget Sound, Lake Union, Downtown, and beyond. Being on the 18^th floor atop First Hill really makes a difference in your perspective of life in the city. It is wonderful to take a bottle of wine and enjoy the sunset by the fireplace up there.
Our apartment is everything we need and want and is definitely the nicest space we’ve inhabited in the city so far. (We came from a building built in 1920.) We have a lot of wall space for my Husband’s art and great big windows so we have plenty of natural light during the daytime hours. The smoke-​free atmosphere, green-​friendliness, and silver LEED rating also make me feel good about the choice to live here, as if all the above didn’t win me over to begin with.
And all the great animals in the building? This is one of the pet-​friendliest places I know of and all the awesome dogs we’ve ‘met’ since moving here have quickly made us consider adopting one of our own soon.
In short: My friends are tired of hearing me talk about how much I love our apartment and the building and how amazing everyone here is. In the words of a loved-​one: «If I didn’t love you so much, I’d be a jealous hater.»

Woohoo! As good as it gets it right. This place is awesome. The office staff is seriously cool and the building is really well done. The roof is a great place to host gatherings and the location is perfect… just out side all the mess down town but close enough to get in the thick of it when you want to. Jill and Max are legit. Seriously. Legit. They will show you your new home.

As someone who works from home, my own apartment is only part of what I look for in a residence — the community areas are where I work out of to keep sanity between home and coffee shop locations. Fast Wi-​Fi, natural lighting and open spaces are a necessity for my productivity. I really enjoy that Coppins Well [CW] has not just one but three spaces for me to work out of. [1]The Community Room, [2]The Meeting Room and [3]The Rooftop Garage. The Rooftop is my favorite, it has large work tables and the view is gorgeous, especially at night [see my photo upload].
I am also a dog owner. I have a (take a deep breath) German Shepherd, Border Collie and Australian Shepherd mix. Living in an apartment with a herding dog can be destructive if he doesn’t have places to run around and burn off steam. There are gated pet areas on the rooftop and the ground level here at CW. Scraps provides bags to pick up after your furry friends as well. I can’t imagine living without these areas any more. Especially during days when I’m busy and do not have time to take him on a long walk or run. I just throw a stick around for 5 minutes while he sprints back and forth with it. Life saver.
The concierge and staff is very friendly and helpful, never giving a unpleasing look when they have to buzz me up to my floor because I left without my key card. I also like that there is security on site at night.
My unit is great, though this portion of renting is obviously in your own hands, as we all have our different needs and opinions on layouts. The first three things I look for in an apartment is [1]Kitchen [2]Closet/storage space and [3]Large windows. I couldn’t be happier with all three. I rarely hear my neighbors — it’s pretty quiet.
The location is great as I am walking distance to downtown and the Washington Athletic Club, but I’m not living in downtown where there are always sirens or people yelling on the streets. Every financial institution is within two blocks and there are many good eats and grocery stores close by. Plus, if you ever need to go to the hospital — you can just log roll across the street to Swedish.
Overall, I’m very pleased with CW.
