Fresh, seasonal, locally-​grown farm produce, eggs, cheeses, meats, seafood, honey, ciders, jams and preserves, cut flowers, plus locally-​made baked goods and other food items from local vendors. Farmers and food only — no crafts, wholesalers or imported items. Over 40 vendors. This market also hosts live music, cooking demos and activities for kids during the market season (2009 season is April 29 through October 21).

History

Established in 1998.

A much-​loved fixture in the south end of Seattle, the Columbia City Farmers Market is a lively gathering place for neighbors, foodies, and dozens of shoppers of many ethnic origins who live and work in this part of the city. The market was started by a dedicated groupd of hard-​working volunteers, and later joined with the University District and West Seattle markets to form the Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance, which now organizes a total of seven farmers markets in Seattle.

Manager

The Neighborhood Farmers Market Alliance (NFMA) is a community-​based organization developed in response to the growing popularity and public support of the neighborhood Farmers Markets in Seattle. The NFMA’s mission is to support Washington’s small farms and farming families by providing effective direct sales sites for our region’s small farmers, and by educating consumers about local farm products and the benefits of buying direct from local farmers. The NFMA is a non-​profit 501 (c) 3 corporation registered with the State of Washington and the federal government. We believe preserving local farmland and maintaining healthy local food systems is essential to our health, our environment and our future.

This is my neighborhood farmers market! I am a big fan.
There is fresh produce and dairy products from local farms and artisan products like cheese, ginger beer, pasta, and beer! How cool!!!
There are also a few food trucks/​stands that provide market customers with an opportunity to eat a meal while you plan your weekly produce shopping. I really enjoy buying the juicy and plump heirloom tomatoes and funky lilac bell peppers available during the warm summer months.
This is a fun market to patron if you have kids since they have kid centered crafts and stands inside a fenced off parking lot!
Come visit this farmer’s market and shop local.

I love this market! It’s huge and has so many local vendors, fresh fruits and veggies, and friendly people. Also: hooray for Fresh Bucks! You can double your EBT dollars up to $ 10 here!

Great farmer’s market with a wide selection of organic produce, flowers, cheese, beverages and food trucks. No craft stands except for a basket vendor. Love that the bouquets are only $ 5 and huge, live music was available, and the Columbia Park is right there for an easy, shaded place to eat. Bring your picnic blanket, grocery bag, cash, and an appetite. Street parking can get crowded, but you can find 2 hour parking fairly easily if look 2+ blocks away.
I’d recommend the kombucha stand and Sea Breeze farm as standouts.

It’s great to have this in the neighborhood! I used to go to the Queen Anne Farmer’s Market all the time and this is quite different. A lot more produce and a variety of things where as there was more food at the QA one. It’s right off of Rainier and in the park behind the library. I do wish there was more food trucks. However I DO love that there’s Rachel’s Ginger Beer! You can bring the bottle back and get $ 5 off when you refill.

This is a cute farmers market, it reminds me a lot of Pikes Place Market minus the tourists. You can find all kinds of things here but I must say the prices are somewhat pricey. The nice thing is some stands will accept debit card payments so always ask!
There is a stand for Rachel’s Ginger Beer which they always have small samples of what they have that day and if you like it you have the option of buying some to enjoy right away or buy it to bring home.
I like the cheese stands they have but my favorite is the one that has the cheese curds. The cheese curds are just $ 3 and you get a small container of it. My son loves that stuff! Our family always like to get either corn on a cob or the crepes. I tried the Indian stand but I wasn’t a fan of it.

The whole thing is deceptively small while maintaining a great selection that is both fresh and delicious. They have really pretty flowers too! My girlfriend and I always get the everything vegan naan bread, which is amazing. Along with our naan bread, we get a nice cold bottle of apple cider. After a long hot day at the farmers market, we get something from Seattle pop to consume on our way home. My girlfriend and I usually get lime flavor to pass and share with each other as we walk towards the lightrail station.

I’ve only been to a few Farmer’s Markets to be honest, however, this one caught my attention on the way to the record store. My best friend and I were visiting from Vancouver for Bumbershoot and wanted to see what our options for in terms of healthier food before we go in and rock out. There are tons of stalls with good variety. The vendors are awesome, chill and happy.

Great place to go solo or bring a friend/​group/​kids.
They offer more than just fruits and veggies. Hot food, ice cream, wine beer, etc…
I ended up getting a Seattle Pop (chocolate banana) it was very good! Although the banana was at the end, there should have been more banana…
I also go the ginger beer (raspberry flavor) it was very good. a bit on the tangy side with a bit of spice, but still good. I will be going back to get a bottle of it because I feel like it would mix REALLY GOOD with liquor… ;) Also if you buy a big bottle and bring it back you can get a refill and they will take 8 $ of the original price! That is a good deal.
I love me a good wine and saw 3 different wine places. the cider place caught my eye (mainly because they were giving free samples) I tried some and I was very impressed! I got the ROckridge Orchards Hard apple cider. Wow, tasted real good and it was warm! Cant wait to have this at night with some food.
I also got a salmon slider which was also good. it was a bit pricey being 4.50 for just 1 slider, but it was tasty. I got the jalopeno slaw salmon burger.
This is definitely a great place to get a bit to eat, chill out and enjoy outside and be around people.
I am so glad its only 3 blocks from my house!

One of my favorite things about living in Columbia City is the farmers market is the weekly market in the summer! It’s not overcrowded with tourists and there are tons of delightful goodies to choose from.
Some of my favorite offerings include: $ 5 flower bouquets, goat cheese, baked goods, and of course tons of fruit and veggie stands!
In true Seattle fashion, the market even has clipboard people for you to try to avoid on your way in and/​or out of the market :)

What a nice Farmer’s Market! I expected it to be scarce, but it was pretty complete with tons of veggie and fruit stands (as expected), baked goods, grass fed beef, fresh caught fish, organic ice cream and hot foods. You could totally get the full meal deal here.
If I didn’t already have a fridge full of STUFF I wanted to purchase a little bit of everything. Next time…
I noticed a couple of SPD patrolling. Nothing to be alarmed about. Just an observation.
Parking in the neighborhood wasn’t bad at all.

I came on a Wednesday night for dinner and wow this was one of the best farmers markets I’ve ever seen! First off Columbia City is a gem and its diversity hands down make it one of the most unique neighborhoods in Seattle. Dinner was a fun family event here where we could choose our own meals and then sit down on the grass to join the rest of the community where everyone was throwing around frisbees, playing with their dogs, socializing, etc. I tried the pupusa cart which was delicious. I got the plantains with cream (don’t miss that) and the horchata. My in-​laws got the Indian food and raved about the crispy naan which was made in a tandoor oven right there. My sister-​in-​law got a veggie quesadilla which was made with fresh local veggies and yummy – crispy but teeming with cheese and veggies. You will find yourself smiling at this farmers market no matter what you buy/​eat or if you’re just strolling around.

Wow, the Farmer’s Market in Columbia City has changed a lot.
Years ago, in the rare opportunity I was off from work on time on a Wed, the market was only a handful of produce and locally-​made cheese booths. Now it takes up almost two blocks!
The markets have several of the same businesses representing, whether in West Seattle, Capitol Hill, or Ballard. There’s a convenience factor to go to CC because of proximity, but there’s also ample parking since the market is off of Rainier and connected to many side streets! That alone is a huge advantage compared to the other Farmer’s Markets to me.
Inexpensive, organic, local produce. I always walk around first and mentally note which places have the best-​looking offerings coupled with price before buying produce.
There are bakery booths such as Columbia City Bakery, Honest Biscuit, and D-​Floured (gluten-​free!) I had a slice of strawberry-​pistachio cake and it was really good; a little dry, but with Hayden’s strawberries, you can really taste the fruit! There’s meats, cheese, jams – all kinds of good stuff:
My favorite thing I ate was at the food booth, «Tandoozy.» A giant piece of charred, delicious naan is covered with lentils, chicken, chutney, rice like a colorful mosaic… it’s so beautiful you almost don’t want to eat it! Almost.
[They] have a port-​a-​potty at the market, which is great, but I’m bummed that they only have one picnic table for people to eat. If it’s sunny, then the grass is fine, but when it’s damp…

I began going to the Columbia City Farmers Market clear back when it started. Rainier cherries, heirloom tomatoes, fresh cheese curds (plain or dill)! So many kinds of wonderful vegetables for stir fry or salad. Since then it has grown and improved… till now.
A few years ago I developed severe arthritis; at most I can walk four city blocks before I need to be done and go home. So I quit going, because of course the parking is impossible. But two years ago, I went to drop off a family member to pick some things up, and oh joy! There it was! A designated disabled parking place! Thrilled, I pulled in. (The person behind me, who also had a designated parking tag, was not so lucky).
Last year they had slightly changed the way the disabled parking was done, but it was still available, and I always went a little early to be sure to be able to park in time.
This year I got there right at the start, and the handicapped parking spaces were gone. I circled in case they’d been moved, but no. Just gone. The one little bright spot in my week. I came back home empty-​handed.
Next week I will try arriving an hour early and see if I can just read in my car till it’s open. Failing that? I guess I can’t go now.

A nice summer farmer’s market. This past summer there were three different cheese vendors and Tandoozy, one of my favorite street food vendors! I miss my weekly fresh goat cheese during the winter and am always excited when the market gears up again in late spring.

Columbia City is a very diverse neighborhood, and holds one of the finest farmer’s markets I’ve seen. I actually like that there’s no one selling jewelry here… that its all just honest to goodness gourmet foodie goods. Even if you’re not looking to buy, it’s fun to look. The going rate for bunches of flowers is not $ 10 (like Pike Place) or even $ 8…every bouquet I saw was $ 5…and they weren’t ‘leftover’ flowers. Sunflowers, peonies, orchids… all fresh and wonderful!
The buskers were playing instruments I’ve never even seen before, I wish I would’ve inquired them on their craft. This is a dog-​friendly market, and everyone seemed to be very well-​behaved. Parking was slightly annoying, but found after circling twice.

This review is a month late since this farmers market ended for the season on October 27th. My husband and I have made this our Wednesday farmers market since we moved to the Beacon Hill neighborhood in 2005 and we love supporting it. We don’t go every Wednesday, but certainly when it hits April and when the weather warms up, we know it’s time to check out the weekly produce and farm fresh goods as often as we can.
Until recently, the Columbia City farmers market has also served as a popular meeting spot for playdates since we’ve become new parents. The huge grass lawn and park next to the lot is perfect for picnic’ing and park playdates with friends with kids. Our favorite purchases from the farmers market this past summer was a wild sockeye salmon filet and baskets of sweet raspberries.
Love the location, day of the week, the neighborhood and nearby merchants.

Organic Produce, cheese, flowers, honey, kumbucha, corn on the cob, frozen pea soup, frozen fish, ice cream — pretty small, but I’d support it.
It was interesting to see such diversity of people shopping, which is the beauty of Columbia City.
Would be excellent to see a more diverse variety of vendors selling more items, but it’s great for small, locally grown produce.

Great farmer’s market. It has a great mix of produce, honey, homemade goods etc. It’s not too big but you could easily lose track of time here (ok, so we were mostly petting the bunny and kitties in the animal shelter bus). Delicious food too! nom nom!

The Columbia City Farmers Market is one of my top places in Seattle. It feels like all that is right with the city.
This is one of the larger farmers markets around and is filled with people, vendors, and treats. The market is ideal for people watching — you’ll see every type of person imaginable — lesbian couples with babies, politicians looking for votes, yuppies, immigrants, people on food stamps, teachers, and people from neighborhoods all over SE Seattle. It is truly a mixing place for the community.
There are a million things to buy at the farmer market — specialties include:
* poultry, eggs, and meat (the most amazing hamburger patties — ever),
* sashimi quality tuna (I make my own sushi every Wednesday during farmers market season),
* starter plants in every variety,
* the freshest fruits and veggies (many picked that morning),
* cheese,
* fancy yummy mushrooms,
* bread,
* flowers!
* and so much more!
There is always so much to see and do. There are activities for kids, samples at almost every booth, and some of the best people watching around.
Plus you just feel great buying directly from the farmers and supporting local agriculture! Its nice to do your shopping in the sunshine!
