Capco Beverages

I’ve been a return customer here for a couple of years now and have probably spent several hundreds on wine, but after a ridiculous and seemingly impromptu policy decision, I doubt I’ll ever return again. The other night I opened a $ 55 bottle of Chateauneuf-​du-​Pape that I’ve only ever seen sold at Capco, and it was completely corked. As is customary, I saved the wine and brought it in to show the staff at Capco, and the woman behind the counter refused to replace because I didn’t have a receipt (I had bought the bottle a few months ago and stuck it in my cellar, much like many wine enthusiasts would, not keeping track of the receipt… who would?). Of course this would seem like a natural response to a bottle return situation, but I have returned bottles to West Seattle Cellars, Bin 41, Esquin, QFC, Metropolitan Market and many other wine retailers over the years, without receipts, without any issue… because it is good customer service! This is partly because retailers can easily comp returned bottles from the distributor, and it’s also because this is the way to keep return customers coming back! In an increasingly wine-​savvy, customer-​service driven market, places like Capco are sitting ducks with such uniformed policies… particularly when there exists generations of etiquette around wine and spirit consumer culture. If you allege to be a respectable wine retailer, Capco, get with it! A $ 55 bottle exchange is a small price to pay for return customers, especially when it’s the norm (and at no cost to you).

This is a pretty good liquor store in West Seattle. Prices are pretty varied compared to other stores, some bottles are actually significantly cheaper than I have seen elsewhere, but others are much higher than I would expect. For the bottles that are available at SFC, they might be cheaper (especially bottom shelf), but Capco is competitive for the mid/​top shelf liquors. They have a good selection of limited-​edition/​rarer bottles that you don’t see at other places at good prices. When I last went, they had an entire case of RIttenhouse out, three bottles of barrel proof Elijah Craig, a bottle of Elmer T Lee, and a couple other goodies that I haven’t seen outside of an event.

This place is way too expensive. I can get a bottle of whiskey for literally $ 7 cheaper at the grocery store. I may go here if I am looking for something rare, but probably not. Even Bevmo is a lot cheaper than this place. Would not recommend.

Nice liquor store a stones throw from the Alaska Junction in West Seattle. Great selection of wine including my newest favorite, German Riesling. If you buy 6 or more bottles you will get 10% off. Only issue is parking. There is a garage, but the elevator goes into Petco, so you have to walk through that first.

Not only are they grossly overpriced, but I was shocked when they refused to sell my wife wine after carding her, because I (a grown ass man in my thirties) did not have my ID on me.
With Bin 41 down the street, and QFC And Safeway there in a pinch — why give Crapco your business?
(BTW, my facial hair is much too glorious for me to be considered sub-​21)
