AAA Half Price Moving Services

I don’t know what the bad reviews are about. Every situation is different I guess, but we’ve hired Patty and Tony to move us 3 times over the last 15 years. We’re about to hire them again and they’ve done several odd jobs for us helping move equipment in and out of the house.
Tony is as much a riot as he is a gladiator (my kids follow him around like he’s a superhero), Patty is a no-​nonsense business woman, and they’ve expanded their services to include house re-​conditioning since we last used them.
P. S. in addition to being honest and ethical, they’re also super affordable. They keep their overhead low. No they don’t have a super sophisticated online presence (hope to help them fix that sometime soon), but they get the job DONE. It’s amazing how much money you save when they show up with one truck and two guys, but still make it happen in the exact time they estimated (without costing you more if their projections were off).
As a program manager and a process junkie, it’s great having a reliable partner like AAA Half-​Price Moving.

While I haven’t used their services since 2007, I STILL feel compelled to write a review six years later because my experience was so horrendous. In fact it ended up being downright hostile and harassing, in addition to damages being done to our furniture during the move. Without a doubt the WORST moving experience to date.
My partner and I were moving to a new apartment. The two men that showed up were late, but seemed friendly enough at first. However one of the men became very rude and actually made me feel threatened once we arrived at the new place.
My partner’s name was Beth, and this man kept insisting on calling her Bret. We corrected him constantly, and still he would call her Bret. We were standing in the living room and the worker asked me where to put a big pile of boxes that he had on his hand truck and I said to just put them down in the living room. I was already surrounded by boxes on three sides, he came right up to me, looked me right in the eye, and put the boxes down right in front of me. I couldn’t move without moving the pile of boxes. I was furious. He then came back with another load, and did it again! Looked me in the eyes and put the boxes right in front of my face. Unbelievable.
They scratched up a nice piece of furniture as well. We took pictures and sent the pictures to the office and they denied any responsibility. I also told the Manager about the service we received and the threatening gestures and she became very defensive of her worker. She called me back, and what do you know… he denied all of it and she began to get mad at me for accusing him. I followed up with a letter, and she never responded.
I complained to the BBB and the issue was never resolved. No purrs for this company, only hisses and growls.

I used these movers on the recommendation of a friend who used them several months before. Their reviews on here are not so great, but they were cheaper than everywhere else (at least at first glance). They do charge for the time they take «waiting to move their truck from their lot» someplace in SODO (?). They did not tell me that this would be the case, though I did receive a letter from Patty notifying me of this when the movers arrived. I estimated that I would be spending around $ 200 for the one-​bedroom move I had, but with the time it took for them to get to my place (45 minutes late), it cost me $ 140 more than I expected. (So, $ 330 for 2 ½ hours of work)
Patty also did not inform me that there is a surcharge of 5% if you’d like to pay with a VISA/​MC, and they tell you as they are handing you the bill. Luckily I hadn’t packed my checkbook!
As a side note, in conversation with the two guys who moved my stuff (who seemed perfectly lovely) the company does not provide these guys health insurance (which I find hard to believe since it seems likely they’d be injured on the job) which would stop me from ever giving this place my business ever again.

I would like to actually give this place –zero– stars. The one star is for the decent rates and confirmation call the day before.
We had booked the movers for 9:30 am to just move our large furniture from our 3^rd story apt. to a house that was only blocks away.
9:30 rolls around– not there.
9:45 rolls around– not there.
I call the lady (Patty) at the office. She informs me that the movers are filling up on gas and should be there very shortly. She also said that they should have filled up the night before and obviously didn’t and that she asked them to call me to let me know where they were, which they didn’t.
10:00 rolls around– not there.
10:10 rolls around– not there.
I call Patty back, no answer, I left a message saying they weren’t here yet and hadn’t heard from them and to please have them call me.
I’m on the phone with my fiancé who’s at the house while I missed the call from the mover, Tony. His voicemail stated that the original truck had a break fluid leak and they had to go back to the shop and get a different truck, and that they’d be arriving within the next 15 – 20 minutes.
I called Tony back, no answer, I leave a voicemail stating that I appreciate the update, but would have liked to have heard from them sooner as we are on a time crunch. No phone call back.
Finally, 20 minutes later, they arrive. I tried to brush off the fact that they were late and immediately started showing them what needed to be moved, which most of it was pulled out into the living room, though they had to bring it down the 3 flights of stairs which I had informed Patty about.
Tony then said we needed to go over paperwork first so I abided. As he started flipping though the pages, I mentioned that Patty said it shouldn’t take longer than 2 hours. He said that on the form she wrote 2 – 4 hours and that «if the other place has stairs like this, it’s going to take at least 3 hours.» I said that I told Patty we were moving into a house with split-​entry, that was it. He said that he wasn’t aware there were going to be steps at the apartment, in which I said I told Patty about it. I just needed to make sure this would get done around 2 hours time because we had to meet with our landlord. Tony interrupts me, «Well, if you don’t want to pay for more than 2 hours, then we’ll just leave.» I said «Please don’t be a jerk about this. It’s not about the money, it’s the fact that you were late, didn’t bother calling until 45 minutes later, and we have other things we have to do.» He then said «Well, I didn’t want to do this job anyway.» I then hucked his pen out the door and told him to get the F out. He then replied while walking out, ‘Ok, well then F you too, you little b****.” Um, ya. I could NOT believe it.
So my fiancé called Patty to give her the rundown of what happened. She apparently was appalled, saying that he, in the 9 years of knowing him, has never done such a thing. I then called her to explain what happened in detail. She apologized left and right, saying that he just bought a house and needed the money, that he never cusses, etc. and that she said she would find someone else to help us out and that she would do what she could to make it better for us. My fiancé was on the phone with another moving company, so I told Patty I’d call her back if we needed her help. Well, I ended up calling her back– and leaving her a voicemail. She NEVER called back.
End of THAT story. Luckily we decided to just rent a Handy Andy truck and have a couple of fellas outside of Home Depot help us. UNDER 2 hours and UNDER $ 100, and NO grief. Should’ve gone that way in the first place.
Just don’t know if this Tony guy woke up on the wrong side of the bed or what, but that was NO way to do business, whatsoever. Absolutely horrible.

I recently moved from a 1-​bedroom to a 2-​bedroom using AAA Half-​Price Movers after reading their positive Unilocal reviews and had a good experience.
Let me start by saying that these guys live up to their name. I first called Gentle Giant (who have stellar Unilocal reviews), who quoted me 4 – 6 hours with 3 guys and a tab of $ 500-​$ 700. Half-​price Movers quoted me the same time with 2 guys and a tab of $ 300-​$ 500. In the end, it ran me ~4.75 hours and came out to $ 460, including a very generous ($ 80) tip. Additionally, I should mention that their minimum bookable time is 2 hours and they don’t require a deposit, whereas other companies generally require 4 hour minimum and a deposit.
Now, onto the movers — they were excellent. They arrived on-​time, were friendly, up-​front about items they were nervous about moving (ex: glass coffee table, mirrors, etc), fast (these guys hustled non-​stop), and made me feel like they cared about my stuff being moved correctly. They even navigated a tricky parking situation (I live in Belltown and there was no street parking available, so they managed to squeeze their ginormagantuan truck into a side-​alley without blocking the apartment — I was quite impressed). Additionally, they were more than happy to re-​arrange stuff after the move. One of them even kept moving boxes for me from one room to another while the other mover wrote out the bill. I said that he didn’t have to do that, and he said that he might as well be productive while I’m waiting — now that’s service!
Lastly, management. This is where my only complaints lie. To begin with, the lady who runs the operation (Patty) was tricky to get ahold of. She responded quickly via E-​mail, but was a pain to reach via phone. She often wouldn’t pick up, and never responded to any of my voicemails. Additionally, Patty mentioned on the phone that billable time stops once I receive the bill in hand — the movers didn’t know this and tried to charge me for their return travel time. Finally, she only snail-​mails their booking confirmation materials — I didn’t receive mine until two days before the move (and I booked it nearly two weeks in advance), which gave me a little heart attack. All of this makes me think that it may be a pain to get any issues which occur with a move (incorrectly booked time, broken stuff, etc) resolved, though this is just a hypothetical.
Overall I’d say I’m happy with the experience — the movers were cheap, fast, friendly, and went the extra mile. If only management stepped it up a little, I’d have no problem giving them 5 stars.

Wow. We hired these folks pretty much because of their amazing reviews here on Unilocal.Big. Mistake.
So first, to be fair, the good: They were on time. They were fast. They were cheap. They hauled our 20,891 pound elliptical machine up a flight of stairs (though they did ask for $ 50 cash to do so on top of the official charges…)
But really? There is SO MUCH BAD that the good is absolutely peripheral. First, they damaged our furniture. And we’re not talking about a little scratch in one thing, no no. A headboard was cracked. A filing cabinet had deep gouges across the top and no longer opens smoothly. Our dining table has many scratches along the edge. Our deep freeze is dented. The decorative metal finish was pulled off a small chest of drawers. The door at the place we moved out of was damaged and the paint was scraped off the outside stairs. The fir floors in our new place were gouged. Dealing with them about the damage? Super frustrating. The woman who manages the booking is who we dealt with when we complained, and she’s really good at making you feel uncomfortable and being all fakey-​nice. She offered to come over and sand down the damage to the furniture, but she’s refused to replace the filing cabinet which is clearly f***ed.
But wait! That is *SO* NOT ALL! Guess what? They let our signed check fly out the window of their truck on the way home after the job. YES. And guess what they did to make it right? Gave us $ 35 for the stop payment on the check (it was our emergency check out of a wallet, so we don’t know the number and can’t stop payment… we were planning to pay with a credit card but they didn’t mention that there was a 5% surcharge for credit card payment when we booked.)
And, I thought I might mention that an iPhone went missing during the 4 hours of the move. My partner made a call on it shortly after the movers arrived, she believes she left it on the kitchen counter, and then couldn’t find it. She didn’t leave the house, so there aren’t a lot of options for where it went. Maybe it randomly got dropped somewhere in the house. OK, except we moved out. Not there. Maybe it got packed in a box? Yeah, we’re pretty much unpacked now and we haven’t found it. Oh yeah, and even though it was charged the night before it started going straight to voicemail around 11am… like maybe someone turned it off.
Maybe your move will go smoothly and you’ll be happy you saved a few bucks with these guys. Or maybe you’ll end up with $ 1000+ of ruined s**t and stolen phones. Just saying.

100% agree with previous positive reviews. Professional service. Very careful with items like big TV /​monitors /​China etc.
Didn’t waste any time and most important of all… I received call at 4:45 PM for a 5 PM move! Quite happy with their service.

I’d like to thank Unilocal and its reviewers very much for helping me find such an amazing moving company. AAA Half-​Price Moving is really very reasonable when you compare with other moving companies in the Seattle area or its neighborhood.
We downsized from a 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom unit in Belltown and the move was pretty smooth! There were 2 movers who helped us move– they arrived right on time and completed the entire operation within 4 hours. The guys were very accommodative yet professional who took care of each and every item just like your own belonging.
At the end, we paid about $ 364 including tip which I thought was an amazing deal.
I will definitely recommend AAA Half-​Price Moving to my friends and family who live in the Seattle area.

Tony and another guy from Half Price moving helped my mom and dad move today. Not only was the price excellent ($ 600), my mom was so pleased with both of the guys they sent out to help her. She said they were hard workers with a great attitudes… even cheerfully rearranged the furniture when she realized she wanted it in a different spot. I want to thank Half Price Movers for their patience, friendliness, and customer service. I know my mom has recommended you to her clients, and I will do the same.
