Let me start by saying that my typical mechanic experience is filled with trepidation and dread… it’s not usually a pleasant experience. I’m slowly beginning to change my mind because of my recent experiences with Rogers Automotive.
We’ve taken both our 2005 prius and 2003 rav4 to Rogers for a variety of tune ups, oil changes and other services. Each time Roger has been courteous and patient, explaining our options and giving honest advice. We’re usually able to have our cars looked at within a few days of inquiry, and Roger has them all fixed up and ready to go the same day.
I’m so grateful to have found Rogers automotive, although I can’t say I’m looking forward to using the services again, as you can imagine… but, I’m sure glad to have found a mechanic that I can trust :)

Great work — honest — nice to work with. Give these guys a try. I had an engine light go on and thought the problem might be major — took it in — charged me a small amount to simply do a reset on a switch. Turned it around in a couple of hours.

Went here for an oil change. Staff was very friendly and the service was great. I will be back for any other automotive needs.

The engine light of my ’97 Ford Taurus came on as I was nearing the summit of Highway 17 — probably the worst place it could have happened. I love my usual mechanic, but he’s in Mountain View, and there was no way I was going to a) try to turn around on 17 or b) drive all the way back with my engine light on. My friend recommended Roger’s in Scotts Valley to me, and I was happy with the service I got there. Roger was busy but squeezed me in. He gave me an accurate quote for checking out the issue, called me to let me know that he didn’t find anything specifically wrong, and gave me his diagnostic sheets to take to my regular mechanic if the light came on again. He was also very understanding when I was running late to pick up my car past his closing time. Nothing went according to plan yesterday, but I’m so relieved that I was able to find an honest, helpful mechanic when I really needed one. If I lived closer, I’d come back for a full tune-​up.
Also, he does have a cute bird (a cockatoo?) that puts on quite a show for customers.

It’s so hard to find a reputable mechanic these days, especially when you’re as gullible as I am. You say the transmission requires a complete overhaul? Go for it! Trunk should have speed fins welded on it? Sounds good! My car needs a new flux capacitor? Sure!
But fear not, we have Roger. He does good, honest work and will have you off on your way safely and quickly. He tells it like it is, and even SHOWS you what’s going on, so you know what’s up. Plus, he has a really cool bird in the garage.
I recommend Roger to all my friends and family, and certainly recommend him to you.

Roger is a literal and metaphorical lifesaver.
We’re from Los Angeles and our car broke down on Christmas day (NIGHTMARE). With the help of my very handy dad, we managed to fix it well enough to get to my brother’s place in Felton, but we had no confidence we’d be able to make it back to Los Angeles safely. I was supposed to be at work here in LA today, the 27^th, so we really had to make the 6 hour drive on Monday the 26^th. Of course, most repair places are closed, so we had to call around to try to find someone who might be able to look at the car. Roger’s shop was closed on Monday, but luckily we managed to catch Roger in the office to check messages. Despite the fact that it was his day off, he agreed to take a look at the car if we brought it in right then.
Roger put the car up on the lift and took a look. He quickly determined that my dad’s quick repair job had fixed the problem we had seen (the heat shield was touching the brake disk) and that we didn’t need to worry on that count. But he showed us something we hadn’t seen: the bolt that attached the steering system had nearly come loose. (I may be getting some of the details wrong – unlike my dad, I’m not mechanically inclined.) If it had fallen out, we easily could have died on the car ride home. Roger described the issue in a clear and easily comprehensible manner, actually showing us the problem and explaining what it meant.
Having seen with my own eyes that it would be unsafe to drive home, I asked Roger if he would be able to fix it on Tuesday the 27^th. (I knew he was closed on the 26^th, so I figured I’d just have to figure things out somehow with my workplace.) Because of the design of my 25 year old car, it was going to be a 2 hour job. But Roger, seeing the situation we were in, agreed to fix the car that day.
The repair job was excellent: Roger even managed to manufacture a bolt so I didn’t have to wait for the particular part to come in. (My dad said that most repair places would not have had the tools necessary to do that – we were lucky to come to one that did!) What’s more, It would have been the easiest thing in the world for Roger to charge us a ton of money for the repair: I’m not knowledgeable about cars and we were desperate. But he charged us a fair – even cheap – price: easily a quarter to a third of what he could have gotten away with charging.
Roger definitely saved Christmas. What’s more, he probably saved our lives. I feel so grateful that we found Roger: I’ve never had a better experience with a mechanic.

I’ve been taking my cars to Roger for about 15 years. Roger is honest and has never recommend work that wasn’t necessary. He really understands cars and it always amazes me how he diagnosis my car’s ailments quickly and accurately — almost as if he’s a car whisperer. I dread the day he retires — there will be a lot of us aimlessly wandering the Santa Cruz roads in search of someone to take care of us as well as Roger.

I went to Roger after being quoted $ 300 for a front end brake job at Integrity Auto. Roger told me that not only was it unnecessary to do part of what Integrity want to charge me for, but quoted me $ 140 for the work. When I went to pick the car up he actually charged me less because the work didn’t take as long as he quoted! When have you ever been charged less at a mechanic?! I wouldn’t have known, he could have billed me for the quoted amount.
Needless to say I will only be taking my car to Roger from now on!

A little bit pricey mechanic, but worth the money. He does not look like the typical mechanic with the outfit. He wears a blue shirt and jeans for the most part, but hey I do not judge by looks. He told me he does this as a hobby. He is honest and friendly if of course you are friendly back. He changed my car oil and changed my battery. I found him on the interstate website because my car battery died. Unfortunately, he lives in Scott’s Valley which is somewhat far from where I live because I would like to go and leave my car there and walk back to where I live. I found another mechanic close by, it is Stanford Avenue, they are pretty good, I reviewed that place.
