Roussell’s Garden

Awesome place to stay. The Russels treat you like family and you have your privacy. The garden is awesome. They make your bed change towels cook good food leave snacks etc. literally one mile from downtown

We had such a wonderful time staying with Bryan and Jan at Roussell’s Garden for Thanksgiving. They were so incredibly warm and generous, taking extra time to tell us the best places to check-​out and how to get from place to place. Our room was on the second floor and was perfectly quiet and private. Breakfast was always good, and there was coffee, tea, and yummy cakes and bread available to snack on throughout the day. I really liked that the neighborhood wasn’t super touristy, but you can still get downtown by walking less than ten minutes. Being so close to Forsyth park was wonderful, and there are some delicious restaurants and coffee shops all with a couple block of Roussell’s (Sentient Bean, Foxy Loxy, Local 11Ten). I’m so glad that we stayed with them and look forward to visiting them again soon.

We booked a weekend here for November via the website. A few days later they notified us the rate was going up because of a special event and we’d have to pay more.
Right after they notified us of the rate change we decided to cancel — more than 6 weeks ahead of time.
Yet still they charged us a $ 60 cancellation fee — after they upped the rate we had already guaranteed with a credit card. Disgraceful.

I had a lovely time here. First I had a room upstairs and then switched to the nice room downstairs that has a private entrance and I LOVED this room. The owners are very helpful and very nice. The breakfast each morning was wonderful but since I am a chef I love making things from scratch and I wish that things would have been made from scratch and that would have made a big difference. Still this place is close to Forsyth Park and it’s a sweet place. The neighborhood is a little odd and sometimes a few houses down there were shady people but I never felt danger. So stay here because the price is right and the people are nice. You’ll have to drive into town because it isn’t too close but it’s not way out either.

My wife and I were set on going to Savannah for our anniversary… we just needed to choose a play to stay! I saw a special on
for Roussell’s Garden, read the nice reviews, and booked it! When I first called and spoke with Jan, the room that was on special was booked for the weekend we were planning to go… so she gave us the Special price on a different room!
The breakfasts each morning were delicious and filling. The homemade French toast with fruit was incredible and very original. Crispy bacon, warm eggs, hashbrowns, and hot fresh biscuits!
There was another couple staying at the same time, and the husband didn’t eat pork, so Jan prepared a chicken-​sausage type of dish. They are more than willing to accommodate any eating allergies/​preferences.
Bryan and Jan were wonderful hosts. They were not intrusive at all, but if you ever needed something, they were there for you. They have a beautiful garden with multiple places to sit and relax. Trust me: Stay here, and not at a chain hotel. Your Savannah experience will be much better.
My only complaint would be the temperature in our room. It was a little too warm (even for my wife, who is usually cold). Although the nice room fan was helpful, it was still a bit warm. However, to the hosts’ defense, we never did complain or ask for them to make the entire house colder just for us.
The bed was sooo comfortable! The sheets were very soft, and the pillows were perfect!
The décor in all of the rooms were very unique and beautiful.

A nice B&B run by a charming couple, Bryan and Jan Roussell. When you first walk up to the house, you’ll notice the unique exterior, cute porch, and extensive garden beside it. Walking through the front door, you’ll see a beautiful staircase and a cozy living room/​dining room with an electric baby grand piano, a really nice touch for a B&B. Bryan takes a lot of pride in the renovations he’s made on the house thus far, as he should. And, the list of things he still has planned for the house will make it even better. The house definitely needs some restoration and has a lot more potential.
I stayed in the Parlor Room, which is located on the first floor. It must have been converted from a study or something like that. It wasn’t my favorite mostly because it felt like I was sleeping over my grandparents house since their personal items were in the closet and the room. The private bathroom was nice. I also got to sleep in a Murphy bed, which I haven’t been able to say before. If you’re thinking of staying at Roussell’s Garden, I would recommend a different room mostly because there is a little lack of privacy on the first floor.
Jan cooks delicious breakfast, nothing too unique but solid, hearty, nutritious food for the morning.
The location is about a mile walk from the historical district, where most of what you’ll want to see is. It is a couple blocks from the southeast corner of Forsyth Park, which is a really nice place to walk around, sit on the grass or benches, and enjoy the foliage. One tip if you do stay here — there is a free bus route that takes you about 5 blocks from the B&B. Next time I’m in Savannah (and I do hope there is a next time because I really enjoyed the city) I will opt to stay a bit closer to the Historic District. What I did like about this location is that the parking is easy, and since it is a little outside of the main tourist area it is a bit more affordable.
Overall a good stay for a fair price. Bryan and Jan are lovely people.
