Hilton Savannah DeSoto

I liked the location and feel of this hotel. Got a great price from Priceline through «name your own price» of 99.00 per night. They charge $ 25.00 per day for valet… like everyone else in Savannah. Ask for a higher floor room with a balcony. Our room was clean with Peter Thomas Roth products in the bathroom. I would bring my own pillow and also a small fan to block out sounds coming from the hallway at night etc. For the price, you can’t beat it.

Hung up on me when I got wrong dept. Then called to ask if they still had great buffet. They said yes unenthusiastically. I figured go see. Went checked buffet. lady was wondering about saying no food on a 22.00 buffet. I made same conclusion. low county boil looked like was sitting for hours. Half the food they used to have. Low end fried seafood instead of fresh. We walked out. No greeter.

I’m so happy to be here! This is a beautiful hotel with amazing rooms. The check in process was easy and the concierge was very helpful and sweet! Our room is amazing with breathtaking views! The room is very clean and we love the décor!

Well unfortunately I couldn’t help but to stay here bcus of the group I’m with. But, as soon as I arrived the front is full with bellman out front. Not ONE attempted to assist with my luggage. But, one did direct me to the pathway to roll my luggage up. Then I get to the desk to check in and it’s ladies #guest at the desk complaining that $ 350.00 was stolen out of their car from someone in the Valet Parking Services. They just arrived as well… LOL! Lord keep me near the cross. I have to be here until Saturday… uh

Not impressed.
I checked in and was told that
had booked me a smoking king size room instead of a non-​smoking room and they told me they had a double bed room if I would take that so I said fine. I’ve actually gone back to my
booking since then and my reservation said NON-​SMOKING.
I checked in to the room and it was right by the elevator and was a handicap accessible room so the sink was super tiny and it was a stand up shower where the water went ALL over the floor in the bathroom while/​after you showered. I wish they would have mentioned that when asking me if it was okay to switch.
Then I left something in my car so I had to get someone to take me down to the parking lot to grab it (under the building). Well this person (a valet) told me three times how hot I was and asked me what I was doing later and told me what time he gets off work. Not appropriate.
Lastly, the room was dirty. I dropped my fitbit on the floor one night and it went under the bed and I saw M&M’s, someone’s earring, trash, etc all under the bed. Also the toilet had black scuff marks all over it and the sink in the bathroom was covered in dirt.
I run conventions and was there to check out a convention and their convention work was horrible as well. Water stains all over the ceiling in the ballroom and water glasses were never refreshed when people wanted something to drink in a conference room.
Bad on all counts.

Location: It can’t be beat. It’s in the heart of Savannah’s historic district and is walkable to everywhere. If you don’t want to walk, you can Über for 5 bucks.
Amenities: The gym and pool area are great! The gym had treadmills, elliptical, stationary bikes, free weights, and medicine balls. Everything is in newer condition and clean. The pool goes to 9 feet deep and has ample seating and views.
Breakfast: Wow. This breakfast buffet (that comes with your room) has everything. Scrambled eggs, omelette bar, bacon, sausage, turkey sausage, biscuits n’ gravy (THE BEST OF MY LIFE), fresh fruit, cheeses, smoked salmon, pastries, bagels, croissants, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, assorted juices… am I missing anything? Probably.
Room: I had to take into account that this is an older hotel. A lot of fixtures are old and rusted. The shower curtain definitely needed to be changed to a new one. The beds weren’t made with a fitted sheet but a bed sheet, a comforter, then another bed sheet. We had a leaky toilet the second day we were there but it was fixed within 5 minutes of us calling downstairs.
I would have given this hotel 5 stars if they did some updated renovations to the room.

Older property located in the heart of Savannah. Rooms themselves are a bit dated and the air conditioning was fair. Getting the car from valet can be slow at times during busy hours.
We went during Mother’s Day weekend so the place was packed. We did eat in the hotel restaurant for a few meals. We had free breakfast which was a standard buffet. One night we had dinner which I enjoyed a lot because the dining room was not crowded. Then finally we had a special Sunday brunch which was good, but felt a bit too much like a wedding.
Check in and check out was painless and the staff was very friendly. For overall location, I would probably stay on River St. again instead of this property.

From the very moment I arrived here at the Hilton Desoto, I felt like I was home. As a HHonors Member I was welcomed by name by the front desk staff. The lobby is beautiful and should, itself, be an exhibit in a museum.
The entire staff is so friendly and accommodating. I am required to make a trip to Savannah twice a month. I am happy and proud to say, this is my Savannah home!

The rug doesn’t match the curtains.
It’s an old ‘historic’ hotel. The lobby has been redone and is quiet nice. The rooms try to be nice but it’s kind of lipstick on a pig… the furniture is nice but you can’t help notice the old shower, the water dribbled… felt a bit dusty.
Overall it’s in a good location and was fine for a 1 night stay.
I will say service was great, everyone was super friendly!

The Hilton Savannah DeSoto hotel is old time classic hotel located in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District, near dining, shopping and theater districts, and many things to do. I rented a car at the airport. I only had to drive about 20 minutes from the Savannah/​Hilton Head (SAV) International Airport to the hotel. The hotel only offers valet parking, which added another $ 25 to my hotel bill.
There was a very nice letter in my room from Kevin B. the hotel’s GM recognizing my Hilton Honors membership status and inviting me to the complimentary breakfast buffet. After I checked-​in I was able to walk to the Riverfront Plaza, River Street and City Market. I was here for business meetings at the second floor meeting rooms. The service in the meeting rooms was above average.
The pool and fitness rooms are located on the second floor.
I was only here for one night. My hotel room 1206 had some great views, which you can see from my pics. My room was only $ 119 or about $ 136 with the taxes.
I really liked this hotel and Savannah the oldest city in the U.S.A. I would recommend and return to this hotel.

04/​15, 1-​night stay.
Pros: The location, valet, grand lobby, and views from my corner room. Also, when I arrived late in the evening, although the gift shop was closed, a lady at the front desk opened it to help me purchase some items. (I regret that I’ve since forgotten her name.) Also, I believe wifi was free.
Cons: I wish the décor of the grand lobby was reflected in the room itself. In short, it was old. And not «historic» old, but more like «outdated,» «unkept,» and «in disrepair.» The window curtain was falling off the rail and the bathroom reminded me of something you’d see in an old gym. I wish I’d had shower shoes! (My included photos tell a better story than my words can.) Overall, I believe the quality of the room wasn’t commensurate with the price I paid for it.
Savannah is easily one of my favorite cities in the country, after having lived there for a year. I decided to stop in for a night (on a long drive from TX to MA) and visit some old friends. This hotel was sufficient for a one night stay.

The staff was the best part of our stay. Every single person we spoke with was extremely helpful and kind.
We left our car at the valet and didn’t see it again till we left.
We were on the 11^th floor corner view, well worth the money. Also had a balcony with a view of the city and we saw the fireworks from there without having to fight the crowds. Bed was comfortable but the pillows left a lot to be desired.
The pool is on the 2^nd floor and has a view opposite the city.
We ordered room service for lunch and it was excellent. Extremely surprised for hotel food.
Hotel is in a great location of savannah, not to busy but just enough surrounding to walk to.

I would like to begin this review by stating that, in terms of the room itself, this is the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.
With that being said, let me list the reasons:
— Upon arrival, we (my fiancée and I) discovered that there were blood stains on our pillow.
— The next morning, we discovered a scummy, crusty, gummy substance on the topsheet that happened to be in the general region of my face all night.
— Possible blood stain in the basin of the shower.
— The very white, white-​haired lady that checked me out after breakfast the next morning was snooty and arrogant, as though it was below her station to even look at me.
— The shower was extremely difficult to turn on the first time, to the point that we were afraid we were going to break the handle trying to turn it.
— The shower temperature fluctuated wildly, ranging from «temperature I wanted it to be» to «literally scalding hot.» Luckily for us, the shower made a «FWEEEEE!» sound before it decided to shoot out the boiling hot water, and the shower was spacious enough to avoid it.
— There was a nasty, hard, white scum on the front of the sink beside the towel bar.
— The wifi was spotty and occasionally ridiculously slow.
— Nearly every chair in the entire building was uncomfortable, as though they made a concerted effort to deter lounging/​resting.
— The front desk tried to charge us for the room that was already paid for, then called us when the bank denied their attempt.
— Most of the analog TV channels were fuzzy and nearly unwatchable.
— The chairs in the conference areas were absolutely filthy and horrendously stained.
— On our final night, we discovered that our down feather blanket was shredded in the corner and was spewing feathers everywhere. We called the front desk and asked if we could get another one. A half hour later, no one arrived. We called down a second time, and after a total of 45 minutes, we were finally able to get another blanket. The guy who delivered it to me was very rude, and acted as though I was inconveniencing him by having a shredded blanket. After we shut the door, we inspected the blanket; it too had a gaping hole in it, all the way at the bottom. At this point, we were too tired to wait another 45 minutes, so we called it a night. we’re still picking feathers out of our belongings three days later.
— The next day, the only item I ordered from the «Grille» was macaroni and cheese. It was still cold in the middle. I didn’t care. I just wanted to get the hell out.
Now, for all these grievances, the hotel did do SOME things right: Most of the staff was very polite and helpful, including the Starbucks girls and the valets, and the pool was lovely. That’s about it.

GREAT front desk service. I wish I remembered the girls name who checked me in because she was fantastic. Gave great advice on local places to dine and explore. The room was beautiful and had a great view from the balcony. However it was a little weird that the balcony didn’t have any furniture on it despite being large enough. The concierge was also great as she booked us a haunted pub crawl. My one complaint is that the room got sweltering hot in the middle of the night and none of us could figure out how to change that.
Note** parking is expensive ($ 25 per night)! But there are parking decks within walking distance that are half the price or free!

Wish I would have read Alie’s review prior to booking. I would recommend reading that before booking… it is very accurate.
This hotel is in a great area, really conveniently located. The staff are great.
However…
The original hotel that stood on this site was a historic masterpiece. They tore that down in the 1960s to make a 60’s plain brick hotel… blah. Now the ‘new’ hotel needs updating. Badly.
When I walked into the lobby, I was charmed… when I got to the blah floors/​guest rooms, I was disappointed.
The hotel has odd artifacts from the original hotel sprinkled in. They do not look like they fit. Example, what is with the lion figure head spewing water out of it’s mouth outside the front door onto the sidewalk? And the DeSoto sculpture in the lobby?
The rooms look like they tried too hard, but in the 1960’s…southern décor meets what? And weird, creepy pictures on the walls. Why are there sketches of girls playing with an early hula hoop? And a sketch of a woman sleeping. Why?
The room is dated. The vents are rusty and dirty. I cannot find out how to change the temp in my room (the thermostat won’t change). The bathroom has a dated shower, and needs caulking and paint. I can clearly hear my neighbors in the hallway and next door talking about their plans for the day (for hours!).
I left the room at noon, and came back around 5pm from sightseeing and my room was not clean. Disappointing. Also, there is no laundry facilities in the hotel, nor nearby. When I asked the front desk for options, they said Mon-​Fri they could send out dry cleaning… too bad it was friday night and I was leaving on Monday morning.
This hotel is not historic nor is it up to date. I don’t know what else to say… the pool was nice, if you like pool decks from 1962. I would stay downtown, by the river, at a full service hotel.

This Hilton location was satisfactory, although there are some maintenance oversights and thin walls which detract from the experience somewhat.
Pros:
+ Free Wi-​fi.
+ Beautiful views of Savannah from almost every room.
+ Friendly front desk staff.
+ Great location central to Savannah, in walking distance to River street and many other attractions.
+ Climate control works well.
Cons:
— The only parking option is valet for $ 25 per night.
— The gym is relatively nice, with free weights, a large rubber floor mat, elliptical, bike and multiple treadmills. Unfortunately, the machines have not been well maintained (buttons were inoperable on the elliptical), and the air conditioning in the gym doesn’t work so be prepared to sweat.
— We were woken up many times by the sound of doors slamming down the hallway. Walls are thin here.

This hotel seemed to be very centrally located, a few blocks off the interstate and within walking distance to the river (about 6 – 7 blocks), civic center (3 – 4 blocks), oodles of shopping and dining options in every direction, parks and landmarks. Our party was able to comfortably walk to all planned events.
The lobby area is quite large and tastefully appointed, with bright elegant chandeliers. The guest room was slightly dated (we had a standard room with two double beds) but a decent size and it was clean and comfortable; the bathroom was also slightly dated and very, very small. We did not visit the pool, fitness center, or any on-​site dining.
Our room was on the 7^th floor and offered a beautiful view of the historic district and the bridge. It was, however, just off the elevator and the alarm went off several times during the night (waking me each time). I think the walls may be a little thin as I could also hear an infant crying in an adjacent room and other guests as they passed outside the room.

Five star customer service. Check in, valet, customer service were all very accommodating and friendly. They really go the extra mile. We asked for a roll away at check in and it was in our room when we opened the door. We then received a phone call from the front desk asking if we needed anything. Then when we were down in the lobby again they asked how we were and if we needed a map.
Parking is $ 20 a night and there is valet service. You can request your car as often as you need to. The location of the hotel is good. You are close to a lot of landmarks and small boutiques.
The lobby is pretty and well maintained. They serve Starbucks and have a restaurant. We did not eat at the restaurant, so I am not sure how good the food is.
The rooms are clean but outdated that is why I gave three stars. Beds are uncomfortable and pillows are too, unless you like really flat pillows. Bathroom is really small and falling apart. The shower has great water pressure with plenty of hot water. But why don’t they have a fan?
Also room had a great view. I think the room is average but does not seem like a Hilton to me. I have never stayed in a run down Hilton before.

The guest services /​reception was warm and welcoming. Very nice and our room was ready early! The hotel is also in a great location.
The bummer parts:
1. The room was a little old and dingy, there was paint coming off in the bathroom, etc…
2. Very load by the elevator is where our room was and unfortunately at 7:30am we had cleaning crew up there, talking loudly, opening and shutting doors and the elevator going up and down.
I would probably stay there again, but not at that price point. There are tons of other hotels in the area with better prices that are quaint.
Not a terrible experience, but not the best experience I’ve had. The hotel staff were all very kind, which was a plus!
