The Inn Above Tide

This luxury boutique hotel is my absolute FAVORITE place to stay when in Sausalito! I’ve been fortunate to stay here on a few occasions, my most recent was several months ago when I had the opportunity to stay in their Tidal Suite. The service by the attentive staff here was top-​notch from beginning to end. As usual, the accommodations did NOT disappoint! The location is amazing as well… just steps from the hotel is the ferry dock where you can catch the boat into San Francisco. In the evening, they host happy hour with a wide assortment of wine, sparkling waters, cheeses, fruit and crackers. In the morning, they host an impressive continental breakfast offering. Bike rentals are available, cute shops and great restaurants are within walking distance, and if you’re an outdoor enthusiast like me, you’ll enjoy exploring nearby Angel Island. Whether you want to sit out on the deck of your suite (or lay in bed) and take in breathtaking views of the San Francisco bay and skyline out of the floor-​to-​ceilng windows, this is a place you’ll to visit again and again.

My husband and I love coming to Sausalito and staying at The Inn Above Tide. The views are exquisite. The rooms are always so clean and smell fresh. And the service is friendly. We love their continental breakfast and wine and cheese time in the drawing room. It is such a treat to get to stay here. Definitely recommend The Inn Above Tide.

Great hotel, great location, great view!
The amenities are amazing. They offer free breakfast every morning and can deliver it to your room for just a small $ 3 gratuity. They have a great DVD selection that they can deliver to your room.
We stayed in a king deluxe room that had a beautiful deck with a view of the bay, Downtown SF, and the Bay bridge. The hotel is walking distance to lots of great shops and restaurants. The front desk is extremely helpful and attentive.
We will definitely stay here again.

The Inn Above Tide is, in my opinion, the absolute peak of hotels.
It just doesn’t get any better than this. This place has the coziness and exclusivity of a small inn, but the quality and unbelievable view of a top tier resort. The rooms here are big and beautiful, with a private balcony and fireplace side by side. Once you walk out onto the balcony, if you’re on the first floor you’ll realize you’re actually standing right on top of the water, and the view of San Francisco across the bay is unbeatable. You can actually feel the mist from the water from your balcony, and it’s unreal. They also provide binoculars to see the skyline better and check out creatures hanging out in the water. There’s nightly wine and cheese at a certain time in the lobby area for guests, and their breakfasts are amazing as well. The service here is superb. If you can afford to stay at the Inn Above Tide-​even if you can’t and have to save up a bit for the visit-​it is well worth it for the experience. I cannot wait to go back!

I am so in love with this place!
My boyfriend surprised me with a night at The Inn over Valentine’s Day/​Presidents’ Day weekend. There were chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of chilled sparking rose waiting for us when we checked in.
The rooms were impeccable and smelled so good! (Yes, the rooms smelled good!) And the views will really make you fall in love. We slept with the curtains open and happened to awake around 5:30am, where I saw one of the most beautiful view of the sun rising above the bay.
Service was incredible. Felipe and the entire staff are beyond helpful and welcoming. They’re kind people that are gracious about accepting tips (which gives reason to tip even more.) They also have a great breakfast set up in the morning (with real, just squeezed pulpy OJ!).
We are absolutely coming back again.

Service and staff were spectacular. It was our anniversary and really enjoyed our stay. Water views are amazing. Nice wine and cheese reception and nice breakfast all included. Would visit again for sure!

The Inn Above Tide is my special get away place, it is on the water and so pretty. (I stayed here 4 times) the price is $$$$ (400. a night) but the visit here for 2 days was a year end treat for me, (I worked so hard in 2015) and the views are priceless. the rooms are upscale and the staff as well, they were all so nice. this is a small town that you can relax in and forget about the rest of the world for awhile. the hotel has a great feel to it, as well as the town. I wish I could stay here forever ! a real gem that I will be back to as often as I can.

We had already booked a hotel for our anniversary trip to the Bay Area when I happened upon the site for Inn Above Tide. Even though their online reservations showed no availability for the time of our trip, I sent an e-​mail stating how much I wanted to stay on the water in Sausalito and their beautiful Inn looked like a dream location. The next day, I received a response that there was an opening for exactly the room we wanted with not just one balcony, but two. We were ecstatic that the staff at Inn Above Tide made our anniversary trip even more special. On arrival we were even more pleased when we found a chilled bottle of wine, a rose, and note for our anniversary.
I normally am not that excited about hotels since we tend to stay in select B&Bs and sometimes nice hotels. But this Inn was exquisite for our anniversary trip. The ambiance upon entering is that of a small, European boutique hotel with excellent, friendly front desk service. There is a parking fee of approximately $ 18 daily for parking in a lot across from the hotel. But our rental car was valeted quickly every day for our trek to Sonoma, Muir Woods and Monterey and Carmel.
There is a small but pleasant dining area on the main level with views of the bay where an expanded Continental breakfast including fresh fruit, quiche, pastries, boiled eggs, bagels, cerals, hot tea, coffee, juice, is available every morning if you choose not to have it delivered to your room. There is also a complimentary wine and cheese reception from 5 to 7 pm in the evening. There are spa services available and the concierge is readily available to arrange tickets to events and restaurant reservations.
The 29 rooms and suites are small and intimate, but fully packed with every amenity imaginable, including their wonderful McRoskey Airflex beds handmade in the Bay area, beautifully appointed baths with Bvlgari bath products, plush robes and slippers (the slippers you can take home with you), remote fireplaces and flat screen tvs with over 800 movies available to check out at the front desk, a safe and honor bar, turn down service with chocolates, fresh gardenia flower in the bathroom every day, not to mention the extraordinary views from the balcony of Bay, Angel Island and San Francisco.
Inn Above Tide is within walking distance of everything wonderful in Sausalito — the ferry is just outside the front door, along with some wonderful restaurants, Angelinos for great Italian and Scomas for waterfront dining and seafood. Sausalito galleries and shopping or strolling along the marina of the Sausalito Yacht Club is still within a mile of Inn Above Tide.
Even though Inn Above Tide was more expensive lodging than we were planning for this trip, Inn Above Tide was worth every penny and will remain at the top of my list of favorite low key, but posh and comfortable Inns with subperb service, and the one of the few that I want to make return visits any time I am in the Bay Area.

What a great little spot with a fantastic view of SF! This sure beats the traffic and hectic pace of the city! The rooms have fantastic views of the city and it sits directly on the bay! The staff were extremely friendly and hospitality was superb!

Place is spectacular between the views of SF, the location, and the people are incredibly nice. Will definitely visit again

This was a really nice place. We stayed in the penthouse suite which was gorgeous and had amazing views of the bay and the San Francisco skyline. Breakfast delivered to your room for $ 3 is a better bet than going to the drawing room which isn’t very big. Highly recommend this hotel.

Hubby and I stayed here in celebration of our 11^th anniversary. We were a little confused pulling in (the driveway looks like a large sidewalk so we ended up calling the front desk to figure out where valet was… it’s right there! Better signage would’ve been nice, but the street was also swarming with bicyclists so we may have just been intimidated by that!)
Right away we were greeted by friendly staff, checked in quickly, and taken to our room where they had a small bottle of champagne waiting for us. There were so many nice touches in the room. The view was AMAZING!
My small «negative» notes: the room (executive King w/​patio, no fireplace) was a bit small. We were on the first floor, and if we were to go back I’d insist upon the second floor for a bit more open feeling on the patio. Also, the air conditioning unit barely worked and we happened to be there during a heat wave (not normal, but worth noting). In their defense, we did not complain about the A/​C unit because that’s not our style and we were so happy with everything else!
They had numerous bikes you could check out and use, which we took advantage of! Their honor bar was well-​stocked and the dark chocolate sea salt caramels were amazing (whoops, we had 3 boxes of them in 2 days!) The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable (even my hubs slept great and he has a bad back!). They have a music player in the room, but be sure to bring a USB cord if you have a newer iPhone/​iPod. The wine/​cheese reception was a very nice touch and we took advantage of it the second night. The continental breakfast was well stocked. Mainly carbs but they did have yogurt and hard boiled eggs… oh and the fresh-​squeezed OJ was excellent!
All in all, excellent location and hotel. We’ll be back!!!

Interesting location, pretty nice looking hotel really. The service was good (the valet/​bellman was really our main guy) but you will be charged for parking, $ 18 a day.
The room was nice, but very small for $ 500 a night. At night, the fog horn over the bay was loud enough to keep me awake. In the early morning, the adjacent ferry terminal had me awake hours before I wanted to rise. The view over the bay is spectacular though. Did not try their continental breakfast, so no comment. A Starbucks is around the corner, but few nearby restaurants are actually good. You’ll need your car or a bike to get to most of the better restaurants.
They were kind enough to mail me a shirt I had left in the wardrobe, much appreciated. I would probably return, but spring for a larger room

I stayed here the night of my engagement and I couldn’t have selected a better hotel. The staff was the friendliest and most helpful I’ve ever encountered. The views from our private deck were breathtaking. The continental breakfast was stocked with the freshest fruit imaginable. Just really the finest hotel experience I’ve ever had…
We woke up early to take in the sunrise from our deck. The most peaceful scene ever. You can’t go wrong with this place! This hotel made the most important day of my life all that more memorable for my fiancé and I.

This place was simply amazing! View was breathtaking and the staff was very friendly. Look for bell-​man Spencer, he is very helpful and courteous. I will definitely considering coming back here again with my husband.

We spent our last couple days in California here after nearly two weeks elsewhere. We’ve been to San Francisco many times so thought it’d be nice to stay on the other side of the bridge this time.
We arrived around dinner time and the valet quickly helped us out with all our bags and packages we had in the car. The lady at the front desk was friendly and got us all set up quickly. It was nice to find out they had a variety of DVDs we could watch in room as well. We were running out of stuff worth streaming and watching a movie sounded like a great way to end a day with.
We booked a Vista Suite and were quickly up in our room. The view really was amazing. The Vista suite is at the corner on the second floor and had a lovely large deck. The deck is probably 20 feet away from the outdoor portion of the Barrel House, so don’t expect any real privacy, but it’s still a great space to go and enjoy the view. The room had a very large well appointed bathroom and sitting area. The sitting area includes a real wood burning fireplace and well stocked book case above the minibar. Overall though the room just seemed a bit over stated and definitely outdated. The bathroom in particular seemed to come out of the 90s. This is not saying anything was not in great working order and very clean, but just could use a refresh to fit in better with the setting and the date. It also is a big pet peeve of mine to call a room a suite, when it’s just one large room.
Breakfast in the morning is well stocked and for our one morning we were around to get it, we enjoyed it in the sitting room on the main floor. Between the breads, eggs and fruit it was a good start to the day. The other great amenity is free bikes to take out with you. It seemed like everyone in Sausalito was biking around, so being able to get them right from the hotel is a big plus.
All the staff members we interacted with were really great. They were friendly and hard working. The valet, who also did double duty as the bellman, was different on every day, but they all showed some real hustle to get things done.
Overall the stay was excellent and the view certainly did not let us down. You also could not beat the location for things in Sausalito. It’s even just a short bike ride to the Golden Gate Bridge. However, the slightly out of date rooms and lack of much to do late in Sausalito probably means we won’t be back for a while.

Beautiful spot for a staycation!
The bf and I recently took a quick weekend R&R trip to Sausalito and chose to stay at The Inn Above Tide for two nights. We stayed in the King Deluxe Fireplace suite and had a patio with gorgeous and unparalleled views of the bay. We barely left the room on both days only to head out to lunch and dinner. We had breakfast in bed, took advantage of the spa tub and the complimentary bottle of champagne, and had in-​room massages. We even popped open a bottle of pinot noir and watched a movie in the room. It’s important to note that Inn Above Tide doesn’t actually have a separate spa — they have contracted a massage company that sends over therapists to your room when you book massages. But that was even better given just how lazy the two of us are. If we don’t have to move, then why move?
The location is just phenomenal and is walkable distance to many restaurants, cafes and cute stores. We had dinner at Scoma’s and Barrel House Tavern and loved both places!
All in all, if you’re looking for a relaxing weekend retreat with some killer views and a modern chic room, The Inn Above Tide is the way to go!

First impressions mean a lot, and Inn Above Tide blew me away. This little hotel nestled on the nook of Sausalito pier is absolutely stunning. I booked a night here for my husband and I for his birthday. The pricing is steep, but its consistent. It doesn’t matter when you book, or where you book from, the prices stay the same– unlike other chain hotels. I’ve stayed at the Ritz in a few different locations and the Inn above Tide ranks just as high on the class, if not higher.
Booking is easy, I happened to book on the phone and let them know we were coming to celebrate a birthday. Upon opening of our room we were greeted with champagne, a rose, and greeting card. I sprung for the room with balcony which is definitely worth the upgrade. Being a Bay Area native I’ve seen the San Francisco Skyline a million times, but there is something special about waking up on the water with that view.
They make the stay very comfortable and the perfect spot for a getaway close to home. The inn offers wine and cheese in the evenings. They had red/​white wine, cheese, crackers, bread, strawberries and grapes. They also offer complimentary coffee and tea 24 hours a day. We noticed they had bananas and apples on the tables too.
The inn offers free bike rentals and movie rentals as well. Biking through downtown was a breeze, as it’s very bike friendly and it was great way to scope out the neighborhood. They offer helmets and locks as well (this place thinks of it all!). The Ferry is right outside the hotel, so if you’re looking for a all day event, hop on the Ferry to SF and take the bikes!
In the evening it started to rain and we wanted to take a walk to dinner. Of course the Inn made it easy by offering oversized umbrellas to guests. The fireplace also made for a romantic background during a rainy night on the water. Late at night we got pretty hungry (small bites of sushi didn’t cut it). My husband remembered the fruit and grabbed us some bananas and apples from the dinning room. This place does not offer room service so it was a lifesaver as the area around pretty much shuts down after 10pm.
The next morning we had the complimentary breakfast, which is one of the best ‘continental breakfast spreads’ I’ve ever had. There was tons of different fruit, pastries, quiche, cereal, cheese, OJ and yogurt. They will also deliver it to your room for $ 3.00. I suggest just getting it ourself (they have trays in the room), and bring it up to your room. The amazing view with breakfast is the perfect end before check out.
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway to take in the sights, and enjoy the view, this place is the spot to be.

The classic staycation spot. The Inn Above Tide is even accessible for those who don’t have a car. Just take the ferry to Sausalito and you are there.
Came here for my anniversary in June on a whim and got a fireplace room which in the end we didn’t even need. We enjoyed a very rare nice eve in Sausalito when the air was still and the view to downtown San Francisco was perfectly clear! We had specified it was our anniversary and found a bottle of champagne in our room along with some chocolates.
The first thing you’ll notice is that you get a real key for your room! I love the little nautical keychains. No more looking for a key card all evening. The location is central to downtown Sausalito, so once you are there, you can walk anywhere without the need of your car. We had a 10 minute walk to Caledonia St for dinner at Sushi Ran, but that is a whole separate review.
Upon returning to the room we ordered another bottle of champagne which they brought up fairly quickly. We sat out on our private deck. The walls between the other decks is about 5 feet tall so you can see other people, but nobody was outside on this beautiful evening. It was so peaceful as we listened to the seagulls and watched the lights twinkle in the distance while sipping our champagne! Eat your heart out Mark Twain!
We retired and enjoyed the huge soaking tub. We left the sliding door cracked open and flipped on the gas fireplace all night.
The next morning we woke to the seagulls barking and morning commuters getting ready for the morning ferry to San Francisco. The complimentary breakfast downstairs had fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, coffees, juices, yogurt and everything you could want from a continental breakfast. We took our items back to the room and sat out on our private deck to leisurely read the paper. You can also get breakfast brought to you or a small fee of $ 3 I think.
Did I mention this was a mid-​week staycation? Yes, we left at a decent hour and in San Francisco fashion took an Über ride just 10 minutes across the Golden Gate Bridge back home and was still on time for work. I didn’t have to make my own bed, my own coffee or breakfast. I go to read my paper in piece… and I had a beautiful eve with my life partner.
I’ll definitely be back!
