We had Christopher do 3 jobs for us. He’s good at carpentry and did a fine job with some shelves he did for us. He’s also a hard worker and has a pleasant, professional attitude in person.
However, all three jobs came in well over his estimate of cost — even though he told us one of them was easier than he’d expected it to be. We also got charged for time it took to go and pick up some basic supplies — the sort of thing most workmen would bring along.
Also, the ceramic tile hanging went poorly — quite uneven. That came from the fact that when he scored the stone backdrop for us, he made the area too wide, so his fix (without asking us) was to widen some of the grout lines. It looks really unprofessional and I’m kind of embarrassed to tell people that we paid so much to have it done.
I was thrilled he was able to score the stone — that’s a rare skill to find, I think. And it would’ve been great work if he hadn’t widened the area while he was doing it (only by ½ an inch, but that really matters when you’re hanging tile).
I also didn’t like that it was hard to schedule with him — he is inconsistent in returning emails and doesn’t seem to like using the phone — even when cancelling appointments same day. I had to be very flexible with scheduling.
I would suggest making absolutely sure you have all necessary supplies on hand before he arrives. I’d also suggest only calling him for bigger jobs, since I kind of felt like when we were scheduling he was doing me a favor to come over to do the work. At $ 80-​$ 85 per hour, and having paid him around $ 1500, I don’t feel like that should have been the case. I went in with really high hopes, but came out half satisfied (carpentry) and half disappointed (tiles), plus quite surprised by the cost.

Christopher built a beautiful and functional bookcase to house all of our cookbooks. He graciously came to our house numerous times to discuss the project and help us figure out what type of wood to use as well as the look of the bookcase. He was extremely knowledgeable about different types of woods and finishes that would best suit our needs.
He worked in a timely fashion and kept us up to speed with his progress. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! It is SO much better then a generic bookcase and we look forward to hiring Christopher again for our next home project!

As brand new homeowners we needed a lot of help, from serious hazards identified in the inspection to cosmetic upgrades, Chris was a Godsend. Extremely knowledgeable, professional, timely, fair, and creative, Chris helped us with a ton of projects large and small.
Jobs included reengineering a lofted deck for safety and stability, upgrading electrical, installing chandeliers, fixing dry rot, patching dilapidated elements all over the houses exterior and organizing the painting of the entire home. He even installed a baby gate securing it to a glass and iron partition that was giving us lots of trouble.
His work met and exceeded our expectations. We will definitely recommend Chris to friends, we’ll definitely hire Chris again ourselves, it is an enjoyable and easy experience.
