Edwin built us a fence and gate. This was not your ordinary fence — it was a very custom job to be built from our own plans. He did a great job of suggesting ways that we could be sure that the fence posts would be built to last using metal anchors that he spray painted to look like cast iron. Instead of just nailing together the decorative pieces in the top section, he joined them with glue — a very professional treatment that he chose because he is proud of a job well done.
The gate is gorgeous, also using joinery rather than nails. Edwin is friendly, on time, and extremely fair in his pricing. He worked with us to make design modifications along the way. We were glad that we were home throughout the process — it helped to keep the lines of communication open. I feel that it is critical for the homeowner and contractor to work together as a team, and we found Edwin to be very responsive to any suggestions we had to share about design decisions.
We would definitely use Edwin again!

Edwin is the man when it comes to taking your idea from paper and making it into reality in wood. Edwin has build some wonderful indoor tables for our home, and a outdoor bench by using the tree wood that we had to have cut from our yard. he stain the tables to match our present décor in our home. The bench is treated for outside weather and adds a delightful rest stop after walking up the stairs to our front door.

Edwin removed some very difficult wallpaper from three of my bedrooms, as well as finished the walls to make them look brand new. He even did a few small fixes around the house while waiting for the steamer to heat up.
Edwin’s fantastic work comes at a fair price and he finishes the job on time. He was respectful of our home and cleaned up at the end of each day. He also had some great ideas for future projects in the house and out in the yard. A very pleasant and positive guy, I would highly recommend Edwin to anyone who needs help with any home project.

Edwin came by to help us with damage from a leaky roof. He was prompt, efficient, helpful and did great work. I wouldn’t hesitate to call him again.

Contractors: Customer Service seems to be an issue with you. I can understand that you want easy, high paying jobs, but you have to get back to people. Send in a high bid, or say you are not interested.
Never calling back will earn you bad word of mouth (like this).

Edwin is THE man. He cares about his work and his customers and takes pride in doing a great job.
We asked him to remodel our guest bathroom and he not only did great work, but also helped with creative design ideas along the way. He also just finished upgrading our kitchen (new counter-​top, back-​splash, sink, plumbing and paint). Both rooms look amazing and we are looking forward to getting his help on some work in the yard.
Oh, he’s honest, too.

I had a wooden dock that had to be repaired right away before the Alameda lagoons refilled. Edwin said it wasn’t really his specialty, but he would get the job done. He arrived with a four man crew, and got the job done in less than a day. Very sturdy repair, and saved me having the dock rebuilt. Fair businessman to deal with.

We asked Edwin to craft some custom parts to repair our business equipment. Edwin was great to work with, paid attention to detail and provided quick turn-around…plus the new part is more durable than the original! Don’t hesitate to contact Edwin for all your handyman needs!

Edwin came by to give a quote on a variety of work. He was prompt in arrival, took lots of notes, but never followed up with a quote.

Edwin did some prep work for me in my bathroom renovation project. He was clear about the work and pricing, showed up when he said he would, finished on-​time and did very nice work.
He was totally respectful of our space, and pleasant to have around. He was also patient with me when I exposed my lack of construction/​plumbing expertise, and didn’t know exactly what I needed him to do. He gave me some helpful pointers for tiling, too. A very positive experience.

Great guy, great work, and a reasonable price. I had a few random repairs to do in my rental unit upstairs and Edwin came up as one of the most highly recommended guys on Unilocal.I guess the other choice was the Handsome Handyman, but he’s not as local and I’ll let the ladies fight over his handsome services. Not that the ladies shouldn’t choose Edwin either — he’s competent, prompt, listens carefully to what you want done and does great work based on that. Good cleanup too. And maybe you’ll find him as handsome as that other guy, who knows?
As an aside, I really like the idea of using Unilocal to review and find contractors rather than a paid site like Angie’s List. Why not use the great Unilocal system that’s already in place? Let’s build a great database of reviews for contractors…
I had Edwin (with a little help the second day from his brother Claudio) replace a damaged door upstairs, replace a broken bathroom soap dish with a few tiles, mount a wire soap dish to the wall, (a much better design IMHO — the tile soap dishes always get soap scum on them and are generally in the way) patch some parts of the wall that had been damaged, and put a trap door in my bathroom ceiling that lets you service the upstairs tub plumbing since that sprung a leak a while back. It had been fixed, but the hole in the ceiling hadn’t.
Everything was done with an eye towards appearance and quality, and I was impressed especially with how he tried to match the «splatter» wall coating that was up there before on the drywall that replaced it, the quality of the bathroom job, and the speed and quality with which he did the trapdoor. He really seems to be able to provide quick, high-​quality solutions to home maintenance projects.
We talked about some bigger projects later on, so hopefully the New Year will be prosperous enough to tackle those too. .. thanks Edwin!

Edwin did a great job with our bathroom remodel. He and his brother laid the 12×12 ceramic tile, installed the new granite countertop, hardware and sinks, and refreshed the built-​in cabinet. He is as warm, professional and caring about his work as the other reviews state. My 3 yr old daughter also enjoyed his friendship while he was working in our home. I’m giving Edwin 4 stars and not 5 because of a few details that weren’t perfect. This was the first remodeling contractor we hired in about 8 years so I wasn’t sure of how much detail I needed to provide. Next time, I will spell out my needs in greater detail so the contractor doesn’t have to guess. Do I recommend hiring Edwin and will I hire him again? ABSOLUTELY YES!

He refinished our back patio and sun roof, which was a big job. Edwin worked tirelessly to finish and we are very happy with his work.

Based on the reviews on Unilocal,I called Edwin to schedule a bid to do some small odd jobs in my newly purchased home. When he answered the phone, he sounded somewhat tired, distracted and uninterested. I asked him if we could schedule a time for him to come to my home to give me an estimate bid, and he asked me if he could call me back later that day. I don’t know if he’ll call me back or not, but I was surprised that he could not figure out his schedule while on the phone with me and that he sounded so unenthusiastic and unenergetic. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I just caught him at a bad time and that our next interaction will change my mind. I’ll update the posting with an updated review afterwards.
UPDATE: Edwin did call back and we scheduled a time for him to come by my home. When we met, he was friendlier than he sounded on the phone. I showed him the work that I needed done, and during the walkaround, he told me that he was busy and could not be available to do the big jobs I needed done ASAP until next month. Of course, he did not say this during the phone call. Not sure why he waited (perhaps to see if my home was worth the time & money? I can only speculate), but had he told me this during the phone call, I would not have wasted our time meeting in person. Perhaps the work I needed done wasn’t very challenging but professional courtesy does not cost anything, and my time & money is arguably just as valuable as anyone else’s. I was disappointed to say the least.

Edwin is a really nice guy and trustworthy. His fees are on the lower end. But you get what you pay for. If you want excellent work and are picky, it might be best to go to a painter or carpenter instead of a handyman.

Mr. Betancourt is an outstanding carpenter. He installed several windows in my home recently and he did so quickly and efficiently. Mr. Betancourt has the skills and experience to resolve any obstacle or difficulty that might come up in a remodel. This is especially important when working on a home that was built in the 1920’s! All sorts of little «problems» can arise. In the event I need other work done on my home, I will most definitely use his services again.

Edwin helped us repair the interior doors of our 1948 mid century mod home. While he was here I had him help with other odds and ends like electrical stuff and even some minor plumbing work. He’s honest, efficient, and does quality work. I just emailed him an RFQ for another project. He’s my go-​to handyman, no doubt.

Edwin is a knight in camo shorts — he came to our household rescue! I found Edwin on Unilocal after suffering a year long home improvement NIGHTMARE with Hands-​On contracting. Needless to say I was gun shy for quite a while but when I found the Ready2Serve profile and checked the web Site I was struck by two things, his motto at the top of the page, «When Integrity Counts» and the photo of him and his 2 big dogs. The unfinished projects that were left to do amounted to a big job, but he didn’t bat an eye. And though his estimate for the time needed was short, the depth of our issues were not obvious as the contractor’s complete incompetence was brought to light as Edwin and his brother worked. They worked at a good pace, and asked questions when unclear and got more done on the house in 2 weeks than our previous contractors had in 6 months! We had Ready2Serve finish up 2 bathrooms including tile work, and painting on top of a few other un-​sightly odds and ends that needed completion. Unlike the Hands-​On they always showed up for work when they said they would, were always on time or called if they even thought there would be any chance of being late which they never were. And very important to us, he got along well with our dog straight off and our dog is very shy and does’nt trust any one right away. The only minor negative thing was that when he gave me shopping errands he did not always explain all the elements needed to be purchased which resulted in multiple trips. He is polite and honest, a good craftsman. We’d hire him again in a heart beat!

Edwin is spot on! So far he has completed a kitchen remodel laying tile, installing various appliances, and applying crown-​molding throughout the kitchen at the ceiling and baseboards. He also finished the molding around newly installed windows. I regularly ask him to help with various jobs around the house. All of his work has met or exceeded my expectations and came in at a vary fair and reasonable price. Please do note that Edwin is a former marine… so when explaining a job be sure to speak slowly. Seriously though I highly recommend his work.
