The best place around. Always fresh to order! Come in and try it out. I eat here like twice a week. Friendly environment. Excellent staff. Good prices. Can’t beat it.

I want to tell everybody the people EVA She comment for our restaurant was false. 1: she said she ordered one Sunomono, we put some lettuce on the bottom, I think there is nothing wrong, each restaurant give decoration was different. we some time give spring mix, some time lettuce. If you do not like lettuce you can tell us before you order. We can give you some different 2 she said that we also put lettuce in her California Roll? Whenever eaten California Roll in our place, they all known that our California Roll only Kani, Avocado and cucumber ! We never put lettuce in California Roll. 3: she said she order spicy salmon Roll, and top with Uni? I just tell everybody we have never done such like that Roll. I want to ask her, is it order from Our restaurant ? 4: she said our curry chicken is not spicy? I want to say that our restaurant using medium spicy curry sauce. This is not to say our not good reason. If guests need some special before order, we will do. Like more spicy! I don’t say more. I just want to tell her that you really came to our restaurant to eat it? Our restaurant only Japanese Food, not sell Chinese Food, If they come to our restaurant they know. Thank you everyone, it has been like our restaurant guests!

I have been told by many many people that Tomo was great– top notch. So I gave it a shot. Wasn’t impressed whatsoever. Any sushi restaurant that serves lettuce with their sushi(unless its a clearly Americanized meal, like chicken tempura rolls) automatically is 3 stars or worse, right then and there. Do not by any means ever put lettuce in my sunomono. But I let it slide, and when the office was ordering takeout next I gave them another chance, and another soon after, and another today. I work in the restaurant industry and have worked in a 5-star sushi restaurant, so I tried to give Tomo the benefit of the doubt… but god, it is terrible. My eel cucumber rolls were mushy, oily, soaked in soy sauce(?) underneath, and just generally slimy. My spicy salmon rolls look more like rice balls topped with uni(which for the unfamiliar, is sea urchin). The spicy salmon was rubbery in texture, but mushy to chew. California rolls have lettuce in them, which is a huge pet peeve. The spider rolls aren’t made with the correct ingredients. The curry chicken is not spicy. The dumplings are half the size of the average fried dumpling. Everything is so oily and doused in what I still am not sure is either soy sauce or vinegar from the bottom of the takeout containers that it makes me compare their food to gas station sushi. The sunomono(seafood salad)‘s ponzu sauce was a complete joke… it was just straight vinegar. The miso is so scalliony in flavor, and not salty at all. The fact they sell sweet potato tempura rolls, «whitefish», and deep fried vegetables, and not kanpachi or toro(or any other harder to find fish in 1 – 3 star sushi restaurants), and they still receive so many good reviews just baffles my mind. I do not recommend a single person who actually knows anything about Japanese cuisine eat here; or Chinese cuisine, since they seem to serve both cuisines despite their Japanese title. Also, two of the five people in my office who ordered takeout today received either seemingly used or previously and roughly splintered chopsticks with their orders. Not cool.

Unlike the reviewer who compared this Terrific Sushi restaurant to sushi places in his home town of NEWYORKCITY, We absolutely LOVE this place. Seriously? That’s like comparing a small town Little League Baseball Team to a Major League Baseball Team. That being said, I wholeheartedly agree with the reviewer who proclaimed Tomo Sushi to be the best for forty miles around. The Fish is super fresh and melt in your mouth delicious with a beautiful presentation. The servers are prompt and courteous and willing to take the time to answer any questions you might have about their menu. We’ve been going there for 8 yrs now and have enjoyed it every single time. Yes, it may not stack up against some of the WORLDSBESTSUSHI restaurants in NEWYORKCITY, But we wouldn’t expect it to… Like some other snobby reviewers. That would be unfair and unrealistic.

Well, I don’t know where everyone else has had sushi. But I’m giving this place 2 stars. The sushi was fair. Not well prepared at all. Rolls were loose and not evenly cut. Spicy yellowtail was practically mush on inside. Candied ginger was cut in to to large of pieces, making it difficult to cleanse the palate between rolls. Place was clean so that’s one of the stars and hosts was nice that’s the other. Grocery store sushi would have been better.

We’ve eaten here many times and greatly enjoy it. Beautifully clean with a nice selection of cooked food and sushi. Everything is always fresh and the staff is always cheerful and friendly. They also generally have a few more creative specials. Last night we went and we were exhausted so I asked the girl if we could be served quickly. And she accommodated our request perfectly!

Let’s start by saying that the décor is super nice. It’s dim lit, romantic, and there’s an easy listening music track in the background. I also enjoyed the décor: there’s sake bottles with mini paper cranes sitting on top of them that are lining the windows of the restaurant. Adorable! This restaurant is huge. We were here on a weekday night so it was pretty empty, but does this place ever get full on the weekends? The food was not spectacular but it did do better than my low expectations. My partner and I ended up getting a sushi boat for two($ 50). Twenty pieces of sashimi, eight pieces of nigiri, and two rolls. Also comes with miso soup and salad for each person. It was about average pricing for the«city». The fish was not that fresh, but not that bad. The yellowtail or tuna was probably the best of the night. The sushi rice was lightly flavored, but really they should have flavored more.(For those that don’t know, half the battle in delicious sushi is flavoring the rice with rice wine and sugar, and making sure it’s at the right temperature.) The service was also fast and friendly. Overall I was impressed by what Saugerties had to offer.(Don’t be fooled by the strip mall location.)

Every time we go to Tomo Sushi, we are freshly impressed with its atmosphere, service, wonderful menu, great food, and beautiful presentation. I’ve been there many times, and have never had anything I didn’t like. We feel so lucky to have such a good sushi restaurant right here in Saugerties!

Very good food. As good as most downstate Japanese restaurants. Ginger pork was surprisingly good.. Vegetable roll combo was fresh and well seasoned.

I believe the guy who wrote that this was the best sushi within 40 miles, but – what’s the expression? In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king? I’m trying to think of a word to describe the bento dinner I had tonight and I’m sorry to say that the one that’s coming to mind is «slop»: a gooey mess of sauce and limp onions all over four fried shrimp. A piece of maguro sushi that just looked purplish, limp, and tired. The little ball of wasabi was hard from long refrigeration. A miserly ball of lukewarm rice looked like it had been dropped on the plate from an ice cream scoop. The waiter was wonderfully sweet(although her description of the mochi ice cream dessert as being like a «rubber band,» although appreciated for its honesty, was probably not a best practice for generating incremental sales). But even the sweetest waitstaff couldn’t dispel the gloom of what was clearly a former Chinese restaurant that must be far too large for its current tenant. Nor the forboding of the half-burned-out signs, one a Subway, the other a dollar store, that flank this place in an aging strip mall. So, I’d say to wish them well as you pass by – but do keep on going.

My husband and I got carry out from Tomo and although the prices went up, the quality has improved. We got a a few fish rolls and an order of sushi, shrimp shumai and some seaweed salad. Everything was very fresh and very good. The interior is rather depressing, so I recommend take-out if you live in the area. There is a good liquor store in the same strip mall, so while you are waiting for your sushi to be prepared, you can pick up a bottle of saki next door. Very convenient.

I live in Newburgh, NY and I’ve been to Tomo Sushi on multiple occasions. The interior of the restaurant is elegant and the wait staff is friendly. The highlight of this place however is the fresh fish they use. The sushi tastes delicious fantastic and I love their deep fried ice cream. Don’t be fooled by the plaza, this place is a gem!

As far as sushi in this area goes: 5STARS!!! This is THE place to within 40 miles for sushi. Excellent fish and presentation, just a little pricey for the area. But its the closest thing to good NYC sushi around… much better than whole foods sushi which would do in a pinch. SERVICE: 3 stars. I was told to wait 15 minutes when I walked it, yet there were empty tables… then the waitress didn’t want me to order what I ordered since I wanted it with white tuna instead of red tuna(as my date did not like red tuna). This doesn’t seem like an outlandish request to me, and she was quite difficult! So I would go here again, but stand your ground! Special rolls were around $ 13 for 6 large pieces.

While passing through Saugerties, I stumbled upon this place. I was at the CVS in the same strip mall and noticed it across the parking lot. Based simply on location — strip mall sushi in a remote location, I wasn’t expecting much,. However, this was a pleasant surprise. It was a snowy night so there weren’t many customers, so the staff was really attentive. The waitress brought me tea, refilled my water glass, brought out a rag to wipe up my spilled soy-u. Salad and soup were promptly brought out. The soup was a little plain with no real flavor but the salad was decoratively presented and not overloaded with dressing. I ordered a Chirashi bowl. At $ 20 with soup and salad, this was a good deal. It was huge. There were many varieties of Sashimi. The rice was garnished with tiny fish eggs(sorry I forgot the Japanese name for the small eggs), the Maguro and Sake were excellent. There were several other varieties including Tamago and Ebi. The only one which was not great was Tako and this can be excused since it is a little unusual that Tako isn’t tough. The atmosphere and décor was peaceful. If you are passing through Saugerties, I recommend Tomo.

I swear it’s the only place that has Eel Sauce. I went to a sushi place near Albany and asked for it, and she gave me soy sauce. I really think I’m going to get about a cup of it and freeze it until i use it. No sushi place has compared. The atmosphere is really nice, and the sushi is amazing.

We’ve tried every Sushi restaurant within 40 miles of Saugerties, and Tomo’s food, presentation, and quality is the best around. Don’t be dissauaded by the strip mall exterior, the interior is nicely decorated, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. We usually sit at the sushi bar and chat up the owners, who are all too happy to chat back even when it’s busy. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. As somewhat regulars, Peter and Annie offer us Sake as a thank you for coming back over and over again. We recommend the Tomo roll, Mexican roll, and Black Dragon roll(with eel), and the Tuna Martini! For appetizers we love the crab stick salad and spicy cucumber salad.
