Dr. Yao is a favorite of both children and adults because of his caring attitude and fun personality. He completed his dental training and orthodontic residency at the prestigious University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Yao is committed to providing his patients with the absolute best orthodontic care. Dr. Yao is also on faculty at the Palo Alto VA Hospital, teaching residents and staying current on the most recent research and technology. Dr. Yao resides in the South Bay with his beautiful wife Dana, his son Elias and baby girl, Tessa Marie.

I am very impressed with not only Dr. Yao but his incredible staff. From the moment I walked in a felt welcome and at ease. Although I have been finished with my braces for about ten years, I still have a special retainer with pontics on it that I wear 24⁄7. When one of the pontics on my retainer broke off I was left with a toothless smile! I was referred to Dr. Yao by my old orthodontist and I am so happy that I called to see them.
Dr. Yao has a lovely office with kind staff, all throughout my appointment I felt comfortable and Dr. Yao throughly explained all of my options and even showed my a video about one of them. Their team truly saved the day when they were able to reattach my tooth in office and get me fitted for a new retainer. They also spent extra care when matching my pontic color to my natural tooth color. On top of all of this the retainer cost $ 150 less than the quote my pervious ortho gave me.
Over all very impressed. If you are looking for an Orthodontist head over to their office!

This review is long overdue! Dr. Wiliam Yao and his team are beyond awesome! Can’t say enough good things about this office! Our older daughter saw an ortho in Los Gatos and our experience (and her smile) doesn’t even come close to Dr. Yao’s office. The service we’ve received from Dr. Yao personally is above and beyond anything we would have expected. He always called to check on us if there was a major procedure done, and Dr. Yao somehow got my daughter to open up and talk! She is as shy as a little girl can be, but when she is at the office visiting with him, she is a little chatterbox. On top of that, our daughter is getting her braces off earlier than planned! They have definitely have exceeded our expectations every step of the way. Our son is due for braces next and there is no other place I would even consider! Do yourself a favor and start treatment here — you will NOT regret it. Thanks so much Dr. Yao!

Today was the first time I met with Dr Yao, we went over treatment plan and the cost for Invisalign.
I had to called him twice within 15 minutes to confirm something, he was extremely patient with my same question that I had asked 2 – 3 times over again because I misunderstood his answer the first time while I was sitting in his office an hour ago!
I am looking forward to working with him with my Invisalign! Stay tune!

I’ve just completed having my teeth straightened by Dr. Yao with Invisiline trays. I’ve been pleased from beginning to end!
Dr. Yao brings a sense of light playfulness to his office but is still very professional. This is not a boring office; Dr. Yoa and his staff seem to sincerely enjoy each other and their patients.
I was especially pleased that Dr. Yao supported me when I wanted some additional fine-​tuning after the original set of trays were completed. It took another six months, but I’m very pleased with the result and with the fact that there was no additional charge. A friend of mine had Invisiline with another dentist and felt as if he was nickle-​and-​dimed along the way. This is NOT the case with Dr. Yao. The price he quoted is exactly what I paid.
My only warning is to understand whether you will need attachments during the process and make sure that fits in to any major life events especially something like a wedding that will involve photographs. During the part of straightening when attachments are on the teeth your smile is not attractive without the trays (due to the «dental warts» they call attachments) and with the trays there is an unnatural glare in photographs. Once the attachments are off that’s not a problem because you can simply pop the trays out for pictures then put them back in. This warning has nothing to do with Dr. Yao or is staff but is simply part of the Invisiline approach to straightening. Invisiline is still less visible than wire braces so, I felt, was a good choice as an adult.
I highly recommend Dr. Yao and his team!

Dr Yao, where to begin is simply amazing ! My son is 7 years old and is the stages of beginning orthodontics. He was nervous at first, and luckily asked tons of questions. Dr Yao, took his time with my son, explained in detail that a 7 year old would understand and made him feel so comfortable. By the time we left our consultation he was over the moon excited to begin. Now a month and a half into it, my son is progressing amazingly and is always excited to see the Dr and Staff. Everyone at this office is beyond sweet and helpful and just make you feel at home. Thank you Dr. for being such a kind, informative and yet fun Dr!
We couldn’t have asked for a better office to start our orthodontic journey !

For the past few months, I’ve been going to many orthodontist for brace consultation and I couldn’t be happier with Dr. Yao’s office. His office definitely has everything that I was looking for; easiness for making appointments, great customer service, cleanliness, location/​hours, reasonable price, and type of braces offered. When I came in for a consultation, there wasn’t a single thing I could complain about. After many months of searching, I’m happy to say that I’ve found my orthodontist and will recommend him to everyone I know.

Dr Yao has been working on my daughter’s (Makena’s) teeth over the past 8 months and I really appreciate the level of care, quality of service and friendliness he and his staff provide.
His practice is set up with a very open concept with 4 stations in a large room. Parents are welcome to come in, and it’s arranged in a comfortable way where I’ve never felt my daughter was being crowded with people in her space as she’s being worked on. I like this setup because I can have a seat near my daughter and Dr Yao always points things out «real time» and does a great job of explaining what he’s doing, why and what to expect to both of us.
I remember my daughter’s first appointment, when Dr Yao was reviewing her exrays, I was impressed with the time he took to really point out and explain a lot of the details, dimensions and ratios relative to different points of her skull, etc. — it was so interesting! Bottom line is that he took the time to explain, and was able to communicate it in a way we could understand. He also came across as being a perfectionist (which I like when it comes to my daughter’s teeth) and I still get that sense with every visit.
So far our experience has been exceptional! Two thumbs up for Dr Yao and his crew!

I have been an Invisalign patient of Dr. Yao’s for the past 18 months. The office staff is very welcoming and knowledgable.
Dr. Yao has an in depth knowledge of the movement of teeth and what would be most appropriate for my situation. I had been suffering with TMJ headaches for several years due in part by my misaligned bite. I was concerned that I might need regular braces but Dr. Yao assured me that Invisalign would be the perfect solution — and he was right! My headaches have diminished considerably and as an added bonus, my teeth look amazing.
I highly recommend Dr. Yao and his staff. The results are amazing and everyone is so nice to boot!

Very professional, friendly, and quality service! Getting adult braces is a very tough experience, and Dr. Yao was very accommodating to my needs. His admin is also extremely helpful, polite, and organized (believe me, that’s rare in healthcare admin!). When my wires were starting to cut into my jaw and my rubber bands came off, Dr. Yao came in on a Friday (a day off for the office) to personally fix the wires and add new rubber bands.

I’m currently getting Invisalign treatment here and love it, as much as someone could love an orthodontist’s office. The staff is very friendly and personable; I really like that they know how to treat both their child patients as well as adults.
The office is decorated in tons of flags of basically every sport team/​college that you could think of. It’s a pretty cool thing to stare at while you’re waiting. During my last appointment, they brought me a green tea while I sat in the chair as Mumford and Sons played over the stereo. Um, awesome!
They also frequently have little «photo contests» for their patients that they can win and get a prize. I don’t participate myself (it’s targeted towards the younger patients), but I think it’s a good way to get kids a little more enthusiastic about their braces.
It’s been a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone!

I got my sons braces here and would recommend this place to everyone. No hidden fees or costs. Dr Yao was able to find a very good solution to my sons very crowded mouth that other doctors only would come up with extremely painful solutions. It’s been almost a year now and the difference is incredible. His mouth looks wonderful and out of the 3 – 4 Offices I got quotes and opinions from, Dr Yao is a miracle worker. The staff here at this location are top notch and professional. I never get asked my name when I come in because they are personable and caring enough to get to know you and remember who you are.
I don’t want Dr visits to cut into my sons schooling so its nice that we can make appointments for 7am here. I feel good that I chose the right place for my sons braces and truly happy that I know were getting taken care of and treated right!

When I was a kid, I went to Dr. Nettleman for my orthodontia. Nearly 30 years later, my kids are getting braces, and from the same office that I went to! Today that office is occupied by Dr. William Yao, DDS.
Deciding to get braces for the kids was nervewracking. I was worried about the cost that it would be painful for the kids, and that it would last years and years. Fortunately I have a great orthodontist!
Dr. Yao has been great so far. My daughter has very crooked teeth, but he created a treatment plan that will give her a perfect smile in just two years. Because she has a small mouth, however, it was necessary to have two of her teeth pulled to make room. My son is younger, so Dr. Yao is using expanders to widen his bite and hopefully no teeth pulling will be required.
Dr. Yao’s office is great in explaining everything in detail. He focuses on the «WHY» of it all. It doesn’t bother him if I have trouble understanding something. His staff takes the time to make sure I am comfortable with the treatment plan. They also work well with insurance plans to get the most out of the ortho benefit.

This place is fantastic — and here are three simple reasons why
1. Dr. Yao is a fantastic ortho — he explains everything he does and let’s you understand your treatment and the changes he is looking to make, rather than just «performing some magic».
He will make sure your teeth are fixed — not just the few things you wanted him to fix, but also everything else you didn’t know needs fixing.
2. The staff and orthodontists are very friendly, welcoming, nice. really just awesome. They all seem to really enjoy their job, they know your name when you walk into the office and remember every story you have told them.
3. They are ALWAYS there for you.
I had to fly out of the country and Dr. Yao came in on a Friday (when they are closed) to fix my broken wire before my flight.
When my braces finally came off, they made my retainer within a day, and Dr. Yao came back to the office after hours to give it to me before I had to head out of the country again.
When I lost my retainer, he made another one and it is currently on the way via air mail to me.
(And the little «congrats» celebration once your braces come off is quite nice as well! :))
If you are looking for orthodentics treatment for whatever reason, I can only recommend coming here.

Dr. Yao became my orthodontist in November of 2012, since day one he has exhibited excellent patient relationship management. Given, my reluctance to seek out medical or dental services due to mediocre service I’ve experienced overtime, my first visit to the Nettleman & Yao office didn’t put a smile on my face, but I wanted to correct my smile none-​the-​less.
To my pleasant surprise, all of the staff were warm and gregarious. With each visit, I feel more comfortable with being a ‘brace face’ at age of 29 (not to mention people believe I’m 18 before metal braces). Dr. Yao has alleviated the dread I felt receiving braces at my age, when all of the patients around me were… well…10 years old.
Along with the friendly nature of the place, the examination space is open, which at first had me taken back a bit, but now I actually appreciate feeling an affinity to others getting braces adjusted.
Given I’m a sports fan, the walls and ceilings covered in collegiate sport pennants are pleasant distractions during my visits. I highly recommend Dr. Yao for adults, given my experiences he has a wonderful personality and my teeth are progressing nicely. In addition, the staff puts considerable effort into ensuring that I am notified via telephone message, email, and physical card about my upcoming appointments.
