History

Established in 1979.

Jim & Becky Gabriel met and married in Sarasota and moved to Atlanta where they opened the first Neuromuscular Therapy Clinic in Georgia in 1982. In 1991, they founded ASHA, a school of clinical massage therapy as an adjunct to the clinic. As pioneering health care innovators, they returned to Sarasota in 2004 and in 2009 opened The Gabriel Center in Gold Tree Plaza. The center offers holistic, anti-aging therapies from practitioners trained in the most effective state-of-the-art techniques available. Educational classes are offered monthly on varying self care topics. To augment the therapies and education, practical and useful products are available for purchase. An artistic, warmly appointed décor welcomes all who enter.

Meet the Business Owner

Jim G.

Business Owner

Originally from Dayton, Ohio and a large Greek family, Jim Gabriel had early on determined to follow in his father’s footsteps and become an attorney. An injury he sustained during college changed his mind and the course of his life’s work. He was told that the chronic pain in his elbows would be lifelong.

On a visit to Florida, he was introduced to Paul St. John, a renowned massage therapist and the developer of Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT). With Paul’s therapeutic help, his chronic pain was resolved.

This event inspired Jim to redirect his career focus from the legal field to become a health care provider specializing in the Neuromuscular technique. He pioneered NMT in the State of Georgia and later opened a state authorized school of clinical massage therapy.

His school, the Academy of Somatic Healing Arts, (ASHA) provided the most comprehensive curriculum for massage studies in the country.

He has been happily married for 35 years, has two children and is an avid gardener.
