Ringling College of Art and Design

I find it hilarious you can Unilocal a college but why not?
If you wish to be a computer animator, the Ringling name will open doors for you. The idea that the Ringling name can get you a job outside of computer animation is heavily pushed during orientation but in my experience false. You will have access forever to career services after graduation but after multiple times of accessing this resource it has literally made no more difference than me looking on my own.
For me, it was worth it because this school busted me into gear so hard that honestly real work after college was too easy. You will learn the professional way of your craft and (this is a pro and con) you will be trained with the most technologically advanced tools. You can grow into your skill set and artistic freedom is encouraged here like nowhere else. Sarasota is also very embracing of the arts which is a wonderful element. The library is an amazing resource that will go out of the way to get you what you need for projects.
The location is both nice and shady.
Various robberies and crimes happen around campus and most commonly were men that drive by, window down, calling to female students as though they are hookers. Ringling does have security and every time they had to be called they showed up and they are always willing to walk with you if you are uncomfortable anywhere on campus. It is a perk that the campus is so small because everyone is close.
I loved many of my teachers and can honestly say the Ringling experience is a very unique one. I wouldn’t change going there and I would do it again if I had to start over. It was the right school for me.
No, it was not always perfect and there were some practices of the school that makes me wonder about their priorities. This school is expensive and at times it was a bit surprising how unapologetically in your face Ringling can be about money. There are many donor only events held at the school where students couldn’t walk into the front of the buildings to get to class and were sent to back doors which is a slap in the face to students paying $ 200,000+ to be there. We are ‘donors’ to the cause even if its through tuition.
As a senior I was verbatim called by a counselor «a low hanging apple of less priority because you’re on your way out» a.k.a graduating.
I can go on about experiences like that but the good outweighs the bad. The tough atmosphere pushes students together. There are times of isolation and times you are going to work too hard and must be careful to take care of yourself. Sounds stupid, but after seeing more than one mental breakdown on campus you take it seriously. Passing and failing is not treated lightly here and attendance can fail you faster than any poorly done work. This is not a free ride, party school.
No college can promise you work after graduation no matter what they say. Colleges are business’ and it’s important to assess them as such. This school is not for someone who casually wants to learn. You can go to the best college and get nothing out of it. Ringling is no different in that regard.
If you want to grow, work hard, and truly learn your craft you won’t regret it if you do it at Ringling.

Took a tour and found out how much these SoBs charge for tuition. They aim to be the ‘Ivy League’ of art schools, but their facilities are very small at the moment. I was not impressed by their willingness to be so exclusive. Tuition is 47K a year, scholarships are only $ 6,500 a year. This place needs a serious attitude adjustment. Not impressed.

Great school!!! Received a BFA in 3D Computer Animation and it prepared me for everything I needed for getting the job I wanted.

Went here and had an amazing experience! Everyone I met was really awesome, creative and had a great career ahead of them. For all the naysayers that claim you don’t need to attend art school to be a better artist, you haven’t seen Ringling!
