Outliers Brazilian Jiu-​jitsu is an official school of the Ribeiro Jiu-​jitsu Association serving the East County of San Diego. Outliers BJJ is built on the foundation of self, family and community. The belief is that, if you take care of your self, you can raise a family, and with a family you can build a community. The aim of Outliers Jiu-​jitsu is to provide a learning environment that offers growth in all aspects of mind, body, and spirit.

Business Owner

Jeremy Barden began training Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu in 2004 and has earned the rank of purple belt. Jeremy is currently enrolled in an apprentice training program under the direct supervision of Saulo Ribeiro at the University of Jiu-​Jitsu in San Diego. This weekly course is designed to ensure that the core foundation of Ribeiro Jiu-​Jitsu is passed on to the teaching apprentice. The course is a minimum of 52 weeks, and satisfactory completion of the course is determined by Saulo Ribeiro himself. Once completed, the title of teaching apprentice is bestowed upon the student.

Jeremy was introduced to the sport by ex-​wrestling teammates who also train under a Ribeiro affiliate school. His passion for Jiu-​Jitsu was greatly noted when he began involving the family in the sport. His son, Angelo Guerrero-​Barden began training Jiu– Jitsu next to his father at the age of 9. We came here about 9 months ago at the recommendation of a friend and felt so welcomed from the moment our family walked through the doors. The head instructor, a black belt, is amazing with the children and is very flexible and reasonable. You can tell that he cares more about the people than money in his pocket. His passion is for jiu jitsu, family, and kids. Everyone at Outliers is so friendly and it is like a huge extended family. They have lots of events to I guess «team-​build», like beach parties and sleep overs.
However, our main reason for coming here, though, was not for building relationships, etc. It was to give our son, a budding competitor in the sport of bjj, better tournament training, and Outliers has taken our son’s skill level to the next level. He continues to improve and is learning more and more advanced moves.
Our daughter, my husband and myself have also started to train here and we love this addition in our life — the fun, the fitness, the friends it’s all good!
If you’re looking for a great place to train, Outliers is definitely a place you should check out!

This is a great place to train, learn BJJ, and build great friendships. I used to train here but was forced to move. Jeremy was very understanding and has remained a good friend and someone I can turn to for advice. The training and learning environment is very friendly and offers a family feel. The techniques, instruction, and level of training is top notch. They pay close attention to detail and give every student equal opportunity to be the best. I highly recommend Outliers to anyone looking to train, and for anyone looking to build lifelong friendships.

I drive 30 min to take my child here. The instructors are amazing. They care about their students as a whole. They take the time to teach each child to master the moves. It’s the perfect blend of learning and fun.

I wanted to find a martial arts type activity for my 5 year old son. He is very athletic and also quiet shy. By second class my son was active and loving it. The instructor is very very good. His own kids are students as well (I love the fact that this place is so family oriented). Older kids help the younger ones, and they are so patient! This place is more than just another option, it is a healthy environment promoting discipline, respect and positive fun. Highly recommend!

I have been training Jiu Jitsu for about 3 years. I recently moved to Santee and found Outliers Jiu Jitsu, right away it felt like home. I have been looking for a good place to train with a strong female presence. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, clean facility with great instructors. Oh ya, the kids program here is awesome! Jeremy is an amazing instructor super patient, technical and has so much passion for what he does it really shows on the mat.

My son was already in martial arts but wanted to start jiu jitsu… luckily for us, Outliers with Jeremy Barden is right up the street. I admire their approach with kids and adults. This school has been a huge asset to the Santee and jiu jitsu communities. Jeremy sees all of his students as individuals and is very encouraging to each of them, regardless of belt color or current skill level. My son feels wonderful about himself. I have just started attending the women’s class… and it is equally as successful!!!

Our boy has been going there for 4 years now and it is awesome!!! Jeremy is not only a great professional and coach but he has great patience and understanding when dealing with kids. If you are having an issue with your child at school focusing, listening at home or just about anything, Jeremy will address it with the entire class to get them refocused on what is important before Jiu Jitsu and then after practice he will do a little one on one as well. Great reinforcement for a parent!!! If you have been thinking about yourself or your child doing Jiu Jitsu I give my highest possible recommendation!!! You will not be disappointed!!!

As soon as I began my training, i knew that this was the place to be! This school is associated with Ribero BJJ and the training proves it! The students are friendly and the enviornment is vary much family oriented. I Recommend dropping by just to watch a class and speak to Jermey if you are in doubt. You will not be disappointed!

My 7-​year-​old son started the Jiu Titsu class at Neto since last May. This is great place for kids to learn Jiu Titsu as the director/​coach Jeremy is so patient working with the kids. Kids got to work out and sweat a lot in the hour-​long class.
The classroom is kind of small and it can get pretty crowded if there’re more kids attending class at the same time. But other than that. I have no complains about the class.
We’re very happy with the class and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who wants to take Jiu Jitsu classes in Santee area.

I started training at this school about a month ago and I absolutely love it! To be honest I didn’t know much about Jiu Jitsu when I tried out the class but every time I go I find something new that I really enjoy about this school. A friend convinced me to give it a try and I am very happy I did. Everyone there is so helpful and really takes the time to help me develop my technique. I really look forward to every class that I attend and appreciate the awesome workout that I receive!
