This place is great! I had a shop install a Procharger on my G35, yet they had no clue how to tune it. They just gave my the car back and said don’t step on the gas to hard you could blow your engine. So I called around to a few shop and found these guys. They said this type of job was right up there alley. I dropped my G off and two weeks later I had 95 more whp with a few maps. Perfect tune! These guys really know what they are doing. Great shop will go back for future mods and when I get my next tuner. They say I have 335 whp but it feels like 400. Half throttle and my G is sideways. Great shop!

TL;DR: FLI is awesome, had them do a lot of work, and my car will never go anywhere else.
I first brought my car here about 6 years ago. I had managed to blow the motor in my beloved Subaru after only owning it about 6 months. I shopped around asking for quotes from multiple Subaru specialists in the bay area. I wasn’t worried about taking the car far from home in order to get top quality work. I was stoked to find that FLI was not only local, but had a great reputation and customer service. I stopped in multiple times before having any work done on my car. Ryan was happy to answer my constant barrage of questions regarding pricing and additions of aftermarket parts, many of which came before I’d even spent a dime with them. They rebuilt my motor with a brand new OEM short block, machined my factory heads and added on a few modest upgrades, and managed to stay within budget. I was beyond ecstatic to have my baby back on the road again!
In the years since my rebuild I’ve done multiple upgrades to the car. Of course I had the car tuned by Miles at FLI. My car has managed to be a reliable daily driver while making decent power. I’ve managed to put nearly 100,000 miles on my rebuilt motor and currently running a Stage 3 tune. I trust my car to do what I need it to and I trust FLI to keep it that way.
Did I shop around for better pricing on oil changes and parts installations over the years? Yeah I did, and I took my car a few other places to have minor things done. Unfortunately, I ended up regretting taking my car elsewhere every time. While living in southern California I took my car to another highly regarded Subaru shop to install some new parts, I was pretty dissatisfied with their service. I ended up scheduling oil changes and other services to co-​inside with visits with family, just so I could take my car to FLI.
Fine Line Imports is now the ONLY shop allowed to service my vehicle. Will other shops perform services for cheaper? Probably, but in my experience you get what you pay for and FLI is definitely top notch. I’m stoked to be able to take my car to a shop and trust that it’s in good hands.

Although FLI is known as the premier Subaru tuning destination, I brought in my ’98 Volvo S70 T5 Turbo for offset and suspension tuning (Eibach Spacers, Koni Adjustable Suspension) and maintenance (Red Line Oil, genuine Volvo factory parts). I have historically known Miles through my Import Car crew, Z. Team Yossi, and Miles is one of the very few stand up guys with a sincere heart and a desire to tune a motor vehicle to its maximum potential. The FLI team is one and the same — it’s rare to experience in the automotive tuning world where shops come and go with poor reputation. The FLI reputation precedes them. You cannot find a finer AWD dyno tester and tuner. Miles doesn’t bullzip and beat around the bush, he will stand by his experience and decades of high horsepower import car tuning wisdom. I’ve driven cars like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Skyline R32 GTR, JDM Civic Type R, Integra Type R, Twin Turbo Supra’s, 500hp Single Turbo RX-​7, 400hp Twin Turbo 3000GT, amongst a plethora of finely tuned import cars. Yet, when I was given the opportunity to test drive FLI’s award-​winning flagship Subaru WRX street tuned race car at the local naval base, I was nearly tearing in the eyes, from joy, due to the disbelief that a car could be so finely and sharply tuned. FLI is the real deal, with history back to 1996 and 100% backing from Z. Team Yossi.

I believe FLI is an outstanding shop for dyno-​tuning, and Subaru mechanical. Unfortunately, I would not recommend them for custom work on other makes how ever. When planning my project car, I bought a Link G4 ECU from Miles. Once I got the car to a certain point I brought my SR20DET swapped Datsun 510 to FLI to have the ECU, and new s13, (E5 ECU) Wiring Specialties engine harness installed. I also hired them to install the fuel lines to and from the fuel cell, regulator and rail. The intent was to get the car running and tuned so I could finish the rest of the build.
Along the way I was told that the brand new harness I had was a mess and needed to be torn apart and fully tested. During testing they reported the $ 500 ignition chip was fried, but months later said it was OK. All of this took a huge amount time (over a year in fact) and cost 3X their original estimated. I asked Miles on several occasions to contact Yury at wiring specialties so he could help them figure out the problem, but time and time again Miles refused.
In the end we had spent over $ 12,000 on FLI’s work, but they still hadn’t got the car running, or tuned. They assured me they would have it running by a specific date, but then reported the #1 cylinder had a leak down of 80%, which meant the engine was shot and needed to be replaced. I knew this cylinder had a compression of 170 psi. when I tested it, so I felt this didn’t add up. I asked Miles to start the car so I could see what it was doing, but he refused saying it would damage the engine. I immediately took the the car to another shop who found the ECUs fuel map for the 1000cc injectors were off by 300%, the engine ground wire was left disconnected, the starter wires were only finger tight, fuel lines were leaking, and they found a foreign metal object in the #1 cylinder. 20 minutes after pulling into this shop, the car was running smoothly on all four cylinders with no smoke at all. Almost two years later now, the car is boosted to14 psi. and still running strong today.
In the two years sense I’ve found many other issues. I also discovered the real reason they were having so much trouble with the wiring harness. FLI had re-​pinned a bunch of wires on the harness ECU plug and gave me a printout of the plug showing the changes they made. When I compared these new pinouts to a s14, J5 ECU pinouts they matched, and it was obvious they had uploaded the wrong base map to the Link ECU. Instead of confirming the map and correcting it, they blamed Wiring Specialties’ product and spent hours blindly testing, taring it apart, and reconfiguring the harness so it would fit the wrong map. Had FLI uploaded the correct map and followed the instructions on the bag, it would have taken only four wire splices to hook the harness up and get the car running.
I believe FLI’s intentions were good, but they sold a job they were ill equipped to do. Unfortunately they quickly found themselves in the unfamiliar territory of being in over their head, and not knowing what to do. I think Miles and his crew are very good at what they know, and I don’t think my experience is the norm. It is still a very bitter pill to swallow to have gone through all this without so much as «I’m sorry» from anyone at FLI.

I brought my 350Z here last month for a dyno tune and I am more than satisifed.
Previously my car has been upgraded by Z Car Garage but I wanted to find a new place since Z Car is always busy. FLI is known as a Subie tuner but I did my research and all my questions were answered before I made a commitment.
Getting here was a a distance; Union City to Santa Rosa. So my expectations were high. Any issues would mean another road trip, so was hoping everything would work out as planned… and it did!
Miles was easy to deal with and he was very thorough and explained my new tune with detail.
I am happy with my +15 hp/​tq gains! …And to top it off, I passed my smog test!
I will likely bring my Z back when I add more performance mods.
