I recently had my first eye appointment with Dr. Shannon. The building has free parking, which is awesome. It was my birthday and they surprised me with cookies and a candle and sang happy birthday to me! It was really thoughtful and such a nice surprise.
Since my appointment was at 7:15am, I had to put down a $ 50 deposit since the morning is so busy for them. They used that $ 50 towards payment for my copay, contacts, etc. So just a heads up, if you book anything before 9am you will probably have to put down the $ 50 deposit.
Overall, a great experience and I look forward to visiting again!

Who wants to go to the eye doctor? Certainly not me! I found Doctor Shannon through my insurance and because he was close. I’m only now checking him out on Unilocal and everything I’ve read is 100% on point. The staff is super friendly, Dr Shannon is funny, super friendly, takes his time and explains things. Parking is free and a breeze, office is clean, they have a great selection of everything. Totally professional and pleasant experience!

The good: He and his staff were friendly, and the free parking was nice. He prescribed new contacts for me that have been working fine. Later, when I emailed him and his staff with questions, they were very responsive.
The bad: Dr. Shannon, after looking at the back of my eyes, decided I need to have surgery done by an ophthalmologist where small things called «concretions» would be removed. However, when I went to the ophthalmologist, she said that my eyes were just dry and I just needed to place heat on them for 5 minutes and take flaxseed oil twice a day. It worked! Good thing that she did not agree with Dr. Shannon’s recommendation.

I found Dr. Shannon during my search for a lasik doctor. He doesn’t actually do the surgery, but he does do the check-​up to see if you are a viable candidate. I spent the last 15+ years bouncing from optometrist to optometrist. Not because they were particularly horrible, but because I never felt attached to any of them. I wish I would have found Dr. Shannon earlier! As others have stated, he’s so warm and personable, and his staff is excellent. Their office runs very smoothly with every appointment I’ve had (I go to him now for my post-​op appointments). I am also encouraging my husband to go to his office as well in the future. I can’t enough good things about his practice and how great he is!

Highly recommend this place! Amazing experience and the staff and doc have the best bed side manor. I’ll be coming back to this eye doc for years.

Dr Shannon is the best optometrist I have ever worked with. He is very competent and explains things clearly. Everyone on the staff is very friendly, professional, and competent. They are very good about handling insurance and maximizing the benefit.

Dr. Shannon’s bedside manner is great and he takes his time during appointments. His staff is very friendly and accommodating. They answer emails in a timely manner and are always helpful if you have questions or concerns. This is a great practice.

Run, don’t walk to make your annual eye appointment here. Why?

This really is the perfect eye doctor. They even offer free parking in Santa Monica — which is rare.
Overall, my best experience with an eye doctor and their staff. And I am picky. Cannot recommend them highly enough. And all of these other reviews speak for themselves.

Since outgrowing my lazy eye in my teenage years, this is the first time I’ve needed glasses in over a decade (although apparently when I have one drink too many, my right eye tends to wander). I called Dr. Shannon’s office for an appointment, and the receptionist was incredibly warm and helpful. I was a little rusty on the whole procedure (Do I get glasses the same day as my eye appointment? What about contact lenses? Will my eyes be dilated, and if so can I wear those dorky paper sunglasses?). Long story short, the receptionist was super helpful and friendly, and got two appointments booked for me – one for the eye exam, and a second one for the glasses fitting (I had to come back with a friend for emotional support).
This was my first appointment with Dr. Shannon, and upon meeting him his demeanor was very welcoming, like that of an old friend who is genuinely in a good mood to see you. He was very charismatic and had a great sense of humor throughout my exam. He provided me with a thorough overview of my eyes and vision issues, as well as an in-​depth explanation of what corrective glasses and contacts would help me with. It was especially intriguing to see a picture of the backside of my eye, as he explained the different parts and nerves and how they connected to my brain.
I must give major kudos to Herson, who helped me through a rather difficult contact lens fitting. Since this was my first time with contacts, I was a little freaked out (although calling myself «a little freaked out» may be a bit of an understatement. I was closer to being on the verge of panic). Thoughts of gouging out my eyeballs with my fingers or the soft contact lenses were running through my head — though both scenarios were highly improbable, if not completely impossible. I was also fighting through a wonderful migraine headache, which made me a bit nauseous. Overall, I was not in a good state and was definitely a difficult patient to deal with. Throughout the entire fitting, Herson was amazing! He was VERY patient with me, as I fumbled around with the lenses for over a half an hour. He was very calm, brought me water and offered advice as I struggled to pop them in and out. Herson was a huge help and didn’t act exasperated, though he must have been feeling that way during my ridiculous attempts at learning how to use contacts. The struggle was real. Very real.
At the end of the appointment, Marco walked me through my insurance, step-​by-​step, so I knew exactly what everything cost, what insurance was covering and what I was paying for. Since insurance is so confusing, this was especially helpful to give me a thorough understanding.
No one likes visiting the eye doctor, but it’s a breath of fresh air to visit Dr. Shannon’s office and experience five-​star treatment from him and his staff. Let’s hope next year’s vision insurance covers this office!

Dr. Shannon is an excellent, thorough eye doctor. I so appreciate his careful consideration of all my vision needs. (I get contacts, glasses, and glasses for over my contacts for driving). He answers all questions, and really is first-​rate when it comes to eye care.
My reason for taking off one star is that… well, he’s expensive. I guess you get what you pay for… he’s expensive, and fantastic!
Oh, and I guess he’s also very busy, as it usually takes a day or more to get emails returned by his staff. But I highly recommend him. Excellent doctor.

Dr. Timothy Shannon is awesome! I’ve never worn glasses and hadn’t been to an eye doctor for about 5 years. A friend of mine highly recommended him. Just went for a check-​up, and I was laughing the entire time. His asst was very friendly and made the initial scans seem like games, and then the visit with him was constant laughs. He’s great. Already recommended him to a few others as well.

I can’t imagine finding a better Eye Doctor (Optometrist) than Dr. Shannon. I am very happy I chose him to take care of me. As a person who needed something new and was desperate for the best advice possible with vision correction, Dr. Shannon had all the answers and «a bag of chips».

I am so beyond pleased with my first appointment with Dr. Shannon today. I suffer from a rare condition that Dr. Shannon has surprisingly had some experience in treating, and he spent two hours with me running tests and talking me through every scan with more care than I have ever seen from an eye doctor. For a new patient with a complex condition, Dr. Shannon went above and beyond while only charging me for the basic exam. Eyeglass prices were also very reasonable with a good selection of frames.
