Welcome to SMC Pharmacy, where we make it a point to understand the health needs of you and your family. Prescriptions are presciptions, the difference is our service.

At SMC Pharmacy, we offer a variety of organic vitamins, homeopathic drugs, and all-​natural American and European skin care and beauty products, as well as your everyday essential needs. We are a neighborhood full-​service pharmacy offering friendly and professional pharmacy services with a state-​of-​the-​art compounding laboratory.

Pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications for patients. Compounded medications are «made from scratch,» meaning individual ingredients are mixed together in the exact strength and dosage form required by the patient.

Meet the Manager

Payam T.

Manager

Payam received his Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Southern Nevada in 2005. He started out working as a pharmacy sales associate for CVS/​pharmacy 10 years ago to becoming the pharmacy manager of their flagship store in West Los Angeles in 2009.

While in pharmacy school, he learned about the art of compounding and grew an immediate interest. After he made his decision to leave CVS/​pharmacy and enhance his skill as a pharmacist, he continued his education and earned his compounding certificate from PCCA (Professional Compounding Center of America) by completing their specialized training with their most intelligent scientists in the art of prescription compounding.

Through his years of experience in retail pharmacy, he saw the needs of patient care decline rapidly placing more unnecessary stress on patients. For that reason, he is determined to provide patients with the greatest care.

Greatest little pharmacy ever!!! Not only are they quick, efficient and kind, they also deliver, for free! Plus, they carry a large variety of medications and make it very easy to get your scripts filled even when most pharmacies don’t carry it, or there is some kind of obstacle that needs to be overcome. They help you solve any problems that may arise so that you can get the medicine you need when you need it!!!

SMC Pharmacy has been awesome since the beginning. I love this small pharmacy over any of the big chain ones — where usually no one knows your name. Payam and all his employees are helpful, polite and friendly. Payam (the owner) will come out and answer any questions you have. They’ve helped me out many times, making sure I was able to get all my medications –including ones I needed specially compounded — without it costing an arm and a leg. Two thumbs up!

Love this place for their human touch. Such a refreshing change from the chain stores. Prices are the same, and the service is top notch. The pharmacists put their heads together today to come up with a solution that would save me time and money on my little boy’s medication and result in less waste. Amazing and knowledgeable staff with a caring doctor. I have been a customer at this pharmacy for many years and my experience has always been very positive. They have saved me money by offering coupons and generics. In two occasions, they even directed me to another pharmacy that happened to have a sale on the medication I was looking for. If you want personal service, I would highly recommend this pharmacy.

I’ve been a customer of this pharmacy for 3 years. My wife and I were refused service with a persciption from a Santa Monica doctor for pain meds. Payam needs to reread the description on the SMC website as to how friendly and helpful they are… because they are not.
We went to another pharmacy in Beverly Hills next to Mickey Fines Restaurant. They filled the persciption on the spot, no problem. We’ll never go back to SMC.

The absolute best pharmacy in the world. I can’t say enough good things about them– especially if you have any complex medical issues and prescriptions that aren’t run of the mill. I recently switched all of my prescriptions and everyone is so warm and compassionate and goes so above and beyond to help me. I have some unusual medications that the regular pharmacies don’t carry and my insurance originally didn’t want to cover. Three times just this month they have gone to bat for me and managed to save me thousands of dollars. They actually advocate for you with insurance and are so kind along the way and go out of their way to support you. I was told prices– broke into tears– and I’m not sure if they can even begin to understand how much those magical words, «let me see what I can do to help» mean when you’re drowning in the nightmare that is our healthcare system. They are amazing.

I have been going to the CVS Pharmacy on 26th and SM for years. Anyone who has been to that one knows how insanely frustrating the pharmacy is. Prescriptions are never ready on time, there is always a huge line and the fastest turnaround I have ever received was 40 minutes. I have three kids and every minute matters, especially if one of the little ones is sick. My favorite doctor referred me to Payam. She has known him for years and he is the reason she too stopped going to CVS. There are not enough kind words to say about the team at SMC. I was worried at first as CVS’ 24 hours has always appealed to me with my long day work schedule. I have a long commute to top it off so I am pretty much not available during SMC’s hours. However, they have been amazing working with my schedule. They mail my prescriptions to my house and fill them automatically every month. They reply to my emails timely and always pick up the phone. They have a parking lot on the side of their building so no meters or searching through crowded SM streets. I have referred them to my parents and neighbors. Thank you, SMC, I so appreciate your flexibility and exceptional customer service.

What makes this pharmacy different than the rest is definitely the staff and the service you get from them. It was only my first time here, and I already felt what all the other commenters have pointed out. Great customer service, super professional staff, and everyone is just so nice! They really make you feel welcome from the moment you walk through the entrance. The girl with glasses at the front desk was also extremely personable too! I forgot her name, but they have some top notch employees in their staff!

Tired of the impersonal «care» at CVS pharmacy, i found SMC pharmacy in Santa Monica. They are truly a professionally run drugstore with a very knowledgeable staff, specially when it comes to your most important thing in life, your health. I am so happy these guys are on my health team and work with my doctor to find me the most cost effective treatment thats available. Highly recommend them.

If you don’t live in Santa Monica (across the street in Brentwood does not count) AND your doctor is not in Santa Monica, they WILL NOT fill your prescription for a Schedule ii drug and will treat you like a criminal. Provincial mindset… Stick with the retail pharmacies and you will be better served.

Let me start by saying that I don’t leave many reviews, but felt the need to do so for SMC Pharmacy!!!
I started coming here for our prescriptions about a year and a half ago when my daughter was a few months old. We needed a compounded medication for her, and I called around to get pricing and they offered me the best price (I called like 5 or 6 other pharmacies all over town). After receiving great service from that first visit, it became our go to pharmacy.
Now, let me share with you though what compelled me to write this review… Recently my daughter was sick with double ear infections and we needed to get a prescription of antibiotics. The doctor called it in and as I was heading over to the pharmacy to pick it up, I received a phone call from the head pharmacist Payam asking if everything was okay with our insurance. Long story short, we had a lot of problems with Covered CA and the Medi-​cal my daughter received was cut mid year and we weren’t able to get her new coverage. He was genuinely worried, wondering why her insurance was showing as expired and wanted to get the new insurance information. I explained the situation and that we would just have to do cash pay for this prescription. When I got to the pharmacy to pick it up, the price seemed way too low for a cash pay script (even if it was a simple antibiotic). I said there must be some mistake, but the cashier told me that Payam had adjusted the price because of our situation! I was utterly in shock, and soooooooooo grateful. For our little family, every penny matters, and their customer service just went above and beyond all our expectations.
If you have a choice of pharmacy and want a place where you are treated with care and respect, I would HIGHLY recommend coming here for their amazing personalized service!!!

I am so happy with the pharmacist and his staff. I purchased a Unilocal deal $ 15 for $ 20 and one of his staff said I couldn’t use the deal for compound medications. The pharmacist said he would honor it and he was so nice and friendly about it. I don’t ever want to deal with Rite Aid or CVS again if I don’t have to. Thank you SMC Pharmacy. Great service.

My doctor uses SMC Pharmacy for a compounding medicine I was prescribed. From the moment I walked in I felt amazingly comfortable. Pharmacies are not my favorite place to be, they have a dark gloomy feel to them but not here. The staff is incredible and the Pharmacist has a great disposition. supportive, patient and easy to talk to. The store is beautifully lite and who every does the product buying and placing has a six sense of what I need and love. I could hang out and relax or pick up something I need while I wait to have my prescription filled. I also got 10% off (store items) for checking in on Unilocal.They gave me several gifts with my purchase which I love. Thank You!

I’ve suffered from a number of health conditions since birth and more still since I’ve hit my late thirties, so I’ve been in any number of pharmacies my whole life. I can honestly say without fear of contradiction I have NEVER had experiences like the ones I’ve had at SMC.
Payam and his staff, Jerrol, Nathan, Jess and Nikki, go out of their way to educate themselves on their clients conditions; they make sure we understand what we’re taking, how it should be taking, if there’s a superior alternative, and if your insurance will cover it.
In addition to that, as busy as they are (the place is unsurprisingly buzzing from the first moment of the day until they shut the doors) they remember your children’s names, they ask about your day, and this year I got a lovely «Happy Birthday!» call from Payam himself.
As I said, having health conditions is inconvenient, scary, sometimes painful and depressing. These people go out of their way to make sure your experience trying to correct these issues is as efficient, educated, and just plain kind as possible.

This place restores my faith in pharmacists.
For a relatively prestigious career, it’s surprisingly difficult to find a decent pharmacist who can combine critical thinking skills with customer service.
I have had the WORST experiences with judgmental, pretentious people who make it clear that YOU need them, they don’t need you.
I visited SMC Pharmacy when my regular pharmacy was out of my prescription. They were extraordinarily polite over the phone, and the welcoming attitude persisted upon my arrival.
First off — if you have to wait in a pharmacy, THIS IS THE PHARMACY TO DO JUST THAT. I think I might start shopping there even when I don’t need a script filled. It was comforting to be surrounded by luxurious skin products and cool gadgets. rather than blood pressure machines, hallmark books, and geriatric toilet seats.
To the main point — everyone here is a gem. Not a single person I’ve dealt with has been anything but accommodating. Even when an issue has presented itself (insurance likes to have issues), they have gone OUT of their way to make it work for me. Most places tell you there’s nothing they can do. There is NOTHING more infuriating than knowing there is an alternative, or possibly a way to make a situation work… and have to deal with someone who can’t use their head, or refuses to because they don’t «have to.»
SMC pharmacy deserves TEN STARS. I can’t believe I didn’t find this place sooner. If you are looking for a private pharmacy (as you well should be… its important to establish a relationship)… this is the one to go to.
