Rubenstein Louis Tax Preprtn

Nothing but praise for the wonderful job Louis has done on our family’s complicated taxes for the past 20+ years. Around tax time, he’s understandably pressed for time and very focused, but always totally on top of the latest breaks! We’re big fans!

I went to Louis for a few years, and at first he did seem to be doing a good job with my taxes. He could be blunt and impolite, and often responded in an aggravated manner when I had tax-​related questions, or when I asked for an explanation regarding tax issues. I referred a friend to him who said he was so rude to her on the phone, she was angry at me for the referral. I never cared for his demeanor and felt it was unprofessional, but I tolerated it for a few years believing he was doing my taxes well.
However, he began missing deadlines for my business taxes and I started having to pay penalties based on his errors. This was a big problem! I also had a very large tax bill one year that seemed incorrect. When questioned, he had no explanation. I was devastated. I had been doing everything he had advised up until that point.
I was then referred to a C.P.A. (Louis is NOT a C.P.A.) who re-​did a few years of the taxes Louis had done incorrectly. I received back payments for overpayment of taxes. My new accountant is whip smart, never misses a deadline, is always responsive and happy to explain any part of the process to me. I truly lament the times I had Louis do my taxes. The only good thing to come out of it is that I finally reached such a deep dissatisfaction with Louis and his services that I found someone else who is fantastic.

I have been going to Louis for my tax returns for over 25 years. I have referred countless friends and colleagues to him who not only have thanked me, but now refer their friends and colleagues as well.
As a newbie entertainment industry professional when I met him, Louis taught me how to track my expenses according to the changing tax laws.
That said, I’ve referred friends who work as investors, in the aerospace industry, in the oil industry, small business owners, real estate traders, you name it.
Louis used to work at the IRS himself and is qualified to represent you in front of them should you need that service.
Louis is not a hand-​holder type. He’ll certainly throughly explain the process to you and help set you up on a great organizational system, but after he’s done that the first year he’s worked your returns, he expects you to do your part and come prepared.
He’s always available for questions via email or telephone throughout the year and he has never, in all 25+ years of my working with him, ever suggested anything outside the law or even approaching outside the law.
He’ll find you every, and I do mean *every* legitimate write-​off, however he will also caution you as to what will red flag an audit and thoroughly vet any deductions that look unusual either within IRS code or compared to your previous returns.
If you have legitimate deductions he will strongly suggest you take them, making sure you have the documentation on hand in the event of an audit.
I have never had a problem with any tax return with Louis, none of my friends, colleagues or employers (who I’ve also sent to Louis — talk about sticking your neck out!) have ever had a problem with returns done by Louis. Indeed Louis has negotiated previous back-​tax problems for some of my colleagues.
I’ve been through two divorces in that time, but I kept Louis! He’s simply the best.

My husband and I have been going to Louis Rubenstein to get our taxes done for the past 3 years. He is a no-​nonsense guy that gets straight down to business and has helped to ensure that we get the tax credits that we deserve. We used to get our taxes done at H&R Block and were never felt confident that our refund as much as it should have been and Louis helped to confirm that this was indeed the case.
Getting your taxes done is always daunting, but Louis makes is a much simpler process with his mini organizer. This way, you don’t have to come into his office with a million receipts and other things. You just total everything up before had and come in with those numbers and your W2s (and maybe a few other bits of paper, but this definitely simplifies the process).
So long as we live in the greater LA area, Louis Rubenstein is our guy!
