RIZE Thai Sushi

It’s pretty good food, but quite small portions so order extra. The delivery was on time.

Love this place! One of the best sushi happy hours in the area. Monday-​Friday from 4−7pm! The place is really laid back with friendly staff. The service isn’t super fast but worth the short wait. There’s no private lot but parking is easy to snag on the street. Also never super crowded to easy to walk in and get seated right away.
They have a great variety of thai/​asian food and everything tastes amazing. Their sushi yellowtail melts in your mouth and tastes just like Sugarfish — but for half the price! 2 pcs for $ 3.50 is a steal for such great quality. Make sure to order their drunken udon noodles and their miso spare ribs too. Beers are only $ 3 during happy hour as well. Highly recommend this place!

Service was good the happy hour menu was good cocktail drinks $ 5 all sushi $ 3.50 and rolls $ 4.00 Happy Hour is from 4:00 to 7:00 it was empty when we got there at 5:00 but then it got busy. If you are going to order beer from the happy hour menu you are better off if you order 64oz for $ 13 instead of 16oz for $ 4.00. Overall had a good time at a new spot

Awesome place for Thai Food cravers. (Sorry I didn’t get to try their sushi)
But this place was awesome. We ordered a salmon fried rice and drunken noodles. They were awesome. Salmon fried rice was great. The salmon was crispy and the rice wasn’t too soft. It was dry enough to taste each rice and they were quite awesome
The drunken noodles was also great. Not too sour or spicy. The chicken was soft and smooth and juicy. The tomatoes definitely add on to the taste of the whole dish.
The atmosphere was awesome and it is a perfect spot for a little drink or date night!

Despite all my travels throughout Southeast Asia, this place is undeniably the best Asian /​Asian Fusion restaurant on the West side!
The staff is just as wonderful!

In the mood for some happy hour sushi (balling on a budget), I opened up the Unilocal machine and came across RIZE. 4.5 stars told a pretty compelling story. I was sold and on my way.
Restaurant had a nice modern look. Service seemed attentive at first. Started off with the Pork Gyoza which was pretty solid and punctual. So far so good. Next came the Baby Octopus salad. DON’T DO IT! I am not one to leave food on my plate even if I am not particular a fan of it, but this I simply could not finish. It was dam near inedible.
Not completely discouraged by how dreadful the Baby Octopus was, I anxiously awaited the arrival of my sushi. Little did I know that was all I was going to be doing … WAITING! 10 minutes go by … nothing. 20 minutes go by … nothing. After ~ 30 minutes of being completely neglected by each and every waiter in this joint, I finally say something. After yet another 10 minutes after confronting them, they say the food is coming up. They didn’t offer any apology for the fact that they obviously forgot about us.
Finally the sushi comes out. The yellow tail, ono and eel cut rolls were mediocre at best. To be honest they were incredibly bland with absolutely no tender love and care. The only redeeming quality of this place was for me was the special nigiri. The truffle albacore, Goma Salmon, Leom Hamachi & Ono Valcano Sushi were actually quite tasty. I was going to order a special roll as a night cap but was truly fed up with this place and opted for the check.
I’m not going to say don’t visit this place as there seems to be a lot of people who had a pleasant experience, but with all the sushi options available to us Californians, I certainly will not be giving this place a second try. A very disappointing dining experience for me.

Trying to find a good sushi place for my sushi fixes.
Yesterday, I was around the area and decided to give this place a try. I made it for their happy hour specials. I ordered the gourmet ginger lemondade. It was delicious. The miso soup was very good. The salmon sashimi was awesome! 6 thick pieces of fresh salmon that melted in my mouth. Yum. I tried the truffle albacore. Oh my gosh! The Unilocal reviewers were correct: the truffle albacore is to die for. I wish more pieces were in the order instead of two. I like the fact that this restaurant also serves Thai food. My next visit I will bring my hubby so he can try Thai, while I have sushi. I also want to try those rainbow shots someone posted earlier.

I randomly found this place on Unilocal while looking for places to eat with a group of people around Santa Monica. I was intrigued by this placed because it’s Thai + Japanese food and allowed easy reservations so I figured why not (I hate waiting around for an hour especially with a bigger group).
So when we got in there, there was really no need for a reservation because the place was still pretty empty (7:30) but they had the table ready for our group. There’s only like 1 or 2 bigger tables inside so having a reservation is prob still a good idea. The interior is pretty modern and nicely laid out and the plates are super adorable.
We ordered around 5 – 6 things (pad thai, santa monica summer roll, jack 20 roll, chicken satay, 8 hour curry, truffle sashimi etc) and everything we had was pretty delicious! Everything also came out pretty fast and the prices are really reasonable. Portions aren’t huge but it’s not small either: P You might have you order like 3 – 4 things to share amongst 2 people. I can see this place being a really good spot for a happy hour esp since it goes on until 7pm. Definitely recommend, wish they had easier parking situation but the street parking wasn’t too difficult.

I’ve never seen Thai-​Japanese fusion food, and this place did a great job fusing the two! Delicious dishes — especially the special rolls. I would say that the portions are on the smaller side, so expect good food but in lesser amounts.

This was my first experience at Rize and I didn’t have the intentions to write a review, but after the table next to me complained about the same issue, it put me in a passive aggressive mood :)
Our waitress (blonde with a double chin) was horrible! She took about 15 mins to greet us, and as she was asking if we were ready, she put her finger up to ‘pause’ us so she could answer a question from a table behind her. RUDE!
I noticed a couple arrive and get their drinks within 5 mins. It took about 10 mins to get our drinks. The sparkling lemonade was actually tasty, but flat.
Took about another 20 mins to get our food. Presentation alone was fantastic! Every dish that came out was an «ohh» and «ahh» — thumbs up to the chef! Food was different in taste and very unique.
I would come back just for the food and proximity to my home, but would prefer to not have this particular woman as my waitress. She was rude and unfriendly. She never checked in with us during our meal and took forever to get our check. Her quality of service and everything in general just took a really long time.
If you’re reading this, I hate to be judgmental, but if you were having a bad day, don’t bring it to work because your energy just sucks for everyone you’re servicing. More importantly, if you can’t separate your personal and work life, you definitely shouldn’t be in the service food industry.

This place is so cool!
I went here randomly with my fiancé and his mother one Saturday around a month ago. The place was super packed and we had no reservation. They seated us at the bar and took care of us perfectly.
Their bar is incredible. The wait staff is amazing. The food is to die for!
I am coming back tonight for my birthday dinner. Can’t wait!

Can’t recall the last time we were so thoroughly happy with a meal!
We came in at 2:30, not realizing they close at 3 until after we ordered, but they never hurried us, which we greatly appreciated. We got to see that all of the staff takes lunch together there in the restaurant, too, which is a tradition I have always found very touching. Employers who take care of their employees are people i feel happy about supporting time and time again.
Their flatware is flippin’ adorable, let me say. Very fresh, friendly and fun. They have an extensive selection of fresh lemonades in all kinds of flavors that we would love to come back and work our way through sometime! Comfortable, light space, big windows and nice décor.
SalMango was fantastic. absolutely beautiful presentation, as with everything they brought us. Wonderful compliment of flavors, interesting variety of roe, and i’m not normally a fan of mango at all, but this was just the right pairing and i found that it really complimented the salmon well, especially with the sweet eel sauce it was served with.
Dragon Roll was great. Very good eel, not overly ricey or over mayonaised, and served shaped like a dragon! Definitely one of the better ones i’ve had, and my aunt who is not normally a fan of eel had a bite and liked it! Success.
We also ordered some small plates of Duck Spring Rolls and Crispy Pork Belly — Duck rolls were nice and fresh, good amount of duck in them, very light, and the peanut sauce they were served with was divine! Pork Belly was out of this world… i could have easily ordered more! Everyone at the table was a huge fan.
RIZE Biscuits (spicy tuna on crispy rice) — my boyfriend’s favorite dish — he declared it the best he’s ever had anywhere, so… that’s really all there is to say about that!
Aunt ordered the Turmeric Sea Bass and ate the whole thing, so that must have been great as well!
We saw SO many things on the menu that we’d love to come back and try. it’s rare that I can go down a menu and be interested in nearly everything, so we’ll definitely be back for more. I have to imagine that all of it is made with the same care, attention to detail and balanced flavors as everything we ordered this time around was. A truly satisfying dining experience! A great combination of Japanese and thai cuisine. The menu is split right down the middle, and each side has plenty of interesting and appealing options. Nice ambiance as well and hilarious small plates w stick figures printed on the plate.
We got drunken crispy noodle, organic kale fried rice, RIZE biscuits, Jacks 20 steps roll, the destiny roll and some thai micheladas.
The star of the night was the drunken crispy noodle. The flat noodles were deep fried and perfectly crispy. The flavor profile was on point and the textures were so unique and wonderful. Highly recommend this dish.
The organic kale fried rice was tasty but nothing too special. The RIZE biscuits were spicy tuna crispy rice, which is really hard to mess up. This dish was again, tasty but nothing really unique about it.
The Jacks 20 steps roll was a spicy tuna roll w albacore and jalapeño on top. Tasty but nothing out of the ordinary.
The destiny roll was a rice free roll, which is always nice. The fish was good and the presentation was very well done.
Another one of my favorite «bites» of the night was the thai michelada. The thai twist was the beer is Singha and there’s sriracha in it. Spicy but really good and original for sure.

This place has been on my bookmarks for so long and I’m so glad I finally came here! Thai sushi is definitely something new for me. I love how Thai cuisine and traditional Japanese cuisine are perfectly mixed together here. Only thing I wasn’t fully satisfied with is our food took a long time to come, one of the sashimi dishes we ordered took more than an hour to be served, while there were only one other table in the restaurant.
We liked everything we ordered:
For tapas/​appetizers, we got the duck spring rolls, which is duck and veggie wrapped in rice papers, served with peanut sauce and mustard sauce. This dish is so refreshing and I love the peanut sauce they made.
We also enjoyed the salmango, which is a salmon tartar with mango chunks, with some caviar on top. It is served with teriyaki sauce on the side, but it doesn’t really go well with the dish, so I would recommend just eating the salmango by itself.
We also got uni sashimi (really fresh), scallops sashimi with balsamic sauce, and baked mussels (they didn’t have King crab anymore), and taro ice cream. Everything is tasty!

RIZE honestly hit the head on the nail on so many levels!
My friend & I started with two of the sparkling drinks & they were extremely tasty & cutely put together in the glass jars.
More importantly, they have HAPPY HOUR on drinks & sushi, etc. & it’s crazy how good of a price everything is!
Not to exaggerate, but this sushi here is some of the freshest tasting, best I’ve had! I normally don’t like the raw sushi pieces of tuna, salmon, etc; however, their cuts were awesome & the sauce on the plate elevated the dish to another level for me.
Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for new sushi/​thai places to eat for a great price & excellent service.

This spot is a great combination of Thai and Japanese food. Their fish is surprisingly fresh and delicious. It’s a rarity that I am tempted to lick the dish clean.
But didn’t want to embarrass my company so I held back. As soon as entering the place, the room is filled with modern wood furnisher. There’s these enormous chairs that make any person feel like a kid.
The host and staff are great, checked up on us at a good amount time. But I’m sure that’s not what most want to know. Here is it, presentation was awesome. Plates had a cutesy designs for those with humor. (Good ice breaker).
Dishes were perfect, kind of hesitated to eat it no knowing where to start. But what’s best overall was the quality of fish, very savory. My only con is portion size, yeah I know being the US it’s expected. Some people love to eat big portions and I’m one of them.
Pricing was reasonable and worth every penny. Don’t forget to try their sticky rice with mango, best in SM perhaps. Nice joint for the Asian fusion fanatics or for those who want from both worlds.

Delivery sushi? Sign me up! As soon as I saw that option my fingers flew across my keyboard ordering my sushi fix faster than you could say, well, sushi!
The sushi arrived looking amazing! How many delivery places can you say send their food over with impeccable presentation? Off to a good start! Unfortunately, things were too good to be true and the sushi did not taste as good as it looked. Average quality which makes for average taste and just average meal. Good enough for delivery sushi I suppose. I probably wouldn’t get it again, but it was decent enough and satisfied my sushi cravings just enough on a night I was too lazy to go out.
We got:
Truffle albacore: one of the tastier options! The truffle is extremely light, but the fish seemed higher quality than the others. I’d probably recommend this one the most!
Lemon hamachi: not much lemon flavor, but pretty good.
Jack’s 20 steps: don’t get excited, it’s not 20 pieces of sushi (no I didn’t think that). It’s 8 pieces of spicy tuna and avocado topped with yellowtail! This was our fave of the rolls.
Destiny roll: soy paper, assorted fresh fish, all topped with jalapeño. Spicy and tasty!
Shiro maki: spicy albacore with fresh albacore on top and crispy onions. I’m big on spicy albacore so I loved it, but my hubby felt it was too «fishy” — again it’s the problem with the average quality fish.
Perhaps the dine in sushi is better? Satisfied my craving, but I doubt I’ll order again.

Okay… so I was just about to write this place up as 3 stars (which for me means I’ll be back and saw that there are a lot of people who love this place giving it 4 and 5 stars.
I’ll update this review next time I go to RIZE. Granted I was boring and got the pad thai but it did not stand out. Erin’s dish was also just okay. I’ve had a lot of Thai in Hollywood, North Hollywood and Long Beach where there is a lot of solid competition. I haven’t found a Thai place that can compete with my past stomping grounds so I’ll keep trying.
The atmosphere is what I call Bangkok Chic so it’s a nice place to dine-​in. I’ll have to try the dishes people seem to be raving about.

Sometimes you’re really craving sushi but you also want to have a little Thai too. In those times, a place like RIZE Thai Sushi is perfect.
The name is confusing but what you get is a restaurant that features a menu of both Thai dishes and sushi, nigiri, and sashimi.
One really great aspect of RIZE is that they offer a Unilocal check-​in for a free sparkling drink. Normally the drink is about $ 4 so it is a really good deal. We tried three flavors: mango lemonade, lychee, and strawberry/​raspberry/​orange. Our favorite was the strawberry flavor as it had a ton of actual fruits in it. The lychee flavor in all it’s cool blue glow is also very good with real lychee fruit in it. They tasted slightly carbonated so it was really tasty.
We ordered a lot off their happy hour menu which is everyday from 4:30p to 7pm. We preferred the nigiri especially the yellowtail. The rolls were too tiny off the happy hour menu so I would skip them. The tuna overall was not great but the other fish tasted pretty good for the price. We also had the spicy wings and soft shell crab from the HH menu. The wings were really good with a nice sweet glaze. I would skip the crab next time though.
For main plates we ordered the pad thai which came with two giant prawns. This was really good and there was enough noodles for three of us. The prawns were also very good.
We had the yellow coconut curry. The thing about this dish is you have to order rice separately so we got the Jasmine rice. It was a good curry though I still prefer the yellow curry at Palm Thai or Hoy Ka in Hollywood.
We also had their «Chirachi» bowl. For $ 18, you get a lot of fish. Three pieces of each. There was also octopus and various roe including small caviar. It is also presented very beautifully but so is just about every dish here.
Finally, we ended with the visually impressive black mango sticky rice. The mango here was the perfect ripeness and just lightly touched with sesame seeds. The black sticky rice was okay. A little more mushy than regular sticky rice but with a good amount of condensed milk.
Overall, RIZE is the best of both worlds for indecisive types like myself. It was very modern, has 3 – 4 TV screens, and is all about presentation. If I lived in this area of Santa Monica, I could see myself here often and I know I’ll be back. We all liked this place a lot. Their service is great and their menu has something for everyone.

I came in on a Friday night for their happy hour which runs from 4:30−7PM. They offer reasonable priced sushi, a few tapas items, and beer. When you check in on Unilocal,you get a complimentary sparkling of your choice. My boyfriend got their lychee sparkling which is an electric blue drink that comes with three lychees. The color was bright and enticing but it was way too sweet. It tasted just like lychee syrup. Bleh. I was not a fan.
The décor is fun and lively. They have both counter seating where you can watch the sushi chefs whip or your meal or you can sit at a table which is rather small. They do play their music kinda loud but not so loud that you have to yell across the table. They have TVs here as well, so you can watch a game or something here too.
FOOD:
Each nigiri is only $ 3.50 here so stock up on that fish while they offer it! I ordered the usual — salmon and tuna. The fish was fresh and tasty. The rice was served at the perfect temperature and not too vinegary. They also didn’t cut their fish too thick (which I prefer) and didn’t plop on a huge pile of rice.
Off the happy hour menu, we ordered their soft shell crab which was nice. The crab was delicate and perfectly fried. It wasn’t oily and was served with a vinegary slaw that balanced out the saltiness of the crab. It’s a perfect bite sized snack to start the meal.
Then we strayed away from the happy hour menu and ordered two rolls. These took a little longer to come back but I suppose its because it took a while to prepare them. Everything on the plate looked beautiful!
We got the destiny roll which is a roll served with rice paper topped off with salmon. It’s supposed to be «spicy» but it wasn’t over powering. I liked how subbed out the rice for extra fish which didn’t make it so heavy. But I gotta admit, the roll was pretty saucy. We also got their pink blossom roll which literally had a flower blossoming (made of fish) on the plate. I wasn’t too crazy about this roll especially compared to the destiny. There was a lot more rice and not enough fish in my opinion. But in regards to presentation, the pink blossom roll obviously takes the cake.
SERVICE:
Slow. Inattentive. Our server was MIA for a good 75% of our meal. She never followed up with us and took her sweet time bringing water and utensils. When we were served our food, we were not given any utensils or plates. Oh, and no waters as well. Ridiculous.
PARKING:
They have free parking in the back. There’s not a lot of spots but it wasn’t full when I went in.
