Revolution Prep

Revolution is one of the most well established names in tutoring. They provide both quality and value and have been developing unique ways of matching students to tutors for years. I know because I used to work there and the methodology has only gotten better since. Recommend.

They have high quality tutors that teach in a fun creative way. I needed help with algebra for the CBEST exam and had not done any algebra in over 5 years. Not having a math brain I totally forgot everything. I got paired with a great tutor who refreshed my brain and had me entering the exam with confidence. I passed and was so happy and grateful for the service Revolution prep had given me.

I arranged tutoring sessions for my son. After my initial package ran out I requested one more month of tutoring in June before the summer. I was told by Daniel that I could do the tutoring month by month. Revolution Prep has been withdrawing from my credit card for the last two months despite the fact that I have not had any tutoring (and did not agree to have any over the summer). They negotiate over the phone but you never get anything in writing. I have called twice and was told that Daniel would call me back; he has not called back yet nor has he answered my emails.
I am filing a case against them. Do NOT use this organization under any circumstances. Stick with the reputable organizations such as Kaplan.

My son took the Revolution Prep practice test last week and in order to get his score he had to RE-​ENTER his entire work sheet and RE-​TYPE his essay into their online website. REALLY? There are computers in today’s world that can do this in a split second. Why would you have a student manually re-​enter their own test answers when the margin of error is higher? It was crazy. I called and complained to the company and their response was they did focus groups to determine the error rate wasn’t that much higher. Well, okay but it’s still a higher margin of error, right? And from our perspective, a complete waste of time. All the kids want (and parents, too) is the data to determine next steps. We almost didn’t get the score because of the cumbersome process. Based on that experience alone I would never, ever use this company.
Revolution Prep’s tagline line is «transforming education.» All I can add is «back to the 19^th century?»

Our kid did worse on the SATs after the Revolution Prep course. The course was poorly run at the high school. Instructor was always late. 900 bucks for this? What a ripoff! Do not use them!

Using Revolution Prep in the Valley. So far I’m not impressed. Did not get what was promised, kind of pulled a bait and switch on us. Not a good choice at all. Will pass the word around our school.

There was supposed to be a review class sponsored through my son’s high school. We paid the registration fee and the day he showed up, he found that the class had been cancelled but nobody had bothered to notify us. Summer scheduling plans were ruined, work schedules disrupted, and I’m still waiting to hear back from the company about getting our money back.
Revolution Prep gets an «F» in my book!

I purchased an on campus group class for my daughter in September which cost $ 600. A few days before the course was suppose to begin, a rep called and said that not enough students had enrolled, so they were going to move her to another class at a different high school but the days and times were going to be different. The original class was suppose to be at her local high school. I told them that she could not attend on those days so I asked for a refund. They put me on hold and then came back and offered me 8 hours of one on one tutoring for the same price I had paid for the group class. I said fine and that I would call them back in January to set it up since my daughter was planning on taking the SATs in March.
I called back Revolution on January 17^th. I think I spoke with Ben. I was told that they would work on matching my daughter with a tutor and I would receive a call back. No call. I called again on January 24^th and spoke to Adam. I was promised that someone would call me back. No call. I called again on January 29^th and spoke to Daniel who gave me the name of a tutor who was suppose to call me. He gave me her number as well. I waited two days. It is now January 31. I have not received a call from the tutor. I guess I could have called her myself, but is that really how a customer is suppose to be treated? I called back on January 31 and spoke to Daniel and told him that I don’t think that I should be calling the tutor myself. I expect her to get in contact with me. I received an email from a tutor named Angela at 1:10 today and she said that I could reach her by email. I emailed her back at 4:45 today and have not heard back from her.
It has been an extremely disappointing experience and I will tell all my friends to not use Revolution.

Revolution Prep is AWESOME! They have awesome customer service and really helped explain the whole process. My brother did 30 hours of private tutoring and was matched with Cameron Johnson who was great! My brother’s SAT score went from a 1650 to a 1970 and he got into UCLA his first choice!

Revolution Prep in Long Beach is not for serious students who want to improve their SAT scores or parents who want to spend their hard earned $ on a valuable experience. KIds played around in the classes and the instructors let them stay. During mock tests some kids were talking. When instructors didn’t show up the students are put in other classes filled beyond capacity and they may be reviewing what your child has already gone over. They do not make those absences up to your child. Not happy at all would try Princeton Review or Kaplan.

This course is adequate (I suppose) for mainstream kids but don’t enroll your child if they have special accommodations with the college board — such as small room setting or time and a half. The instructor doesn’t want to stay the extra time and Revolution Prep is too cheap to provide an extra instructor on testing days to accommodate a small room setting. What they do instead is send the child home with the test and ask the parent to monitor their child! What am I paying for if I’m the one having to supervise my kid??? This doesn’t replicate the actual SAT/​ACT test at all. I complained to them about this and they were sympathetic (are you kidding?). I also thought it was unfair that I had to pay the full $ 499.00 when my kid was only attending half the number of classes (since she had to take the tests at home). No one offered to refund some of the fee. Her first 2 test results were worse than her actual SAT!!! Don’t waste your money.
