This place is great! I believe in excellent customer service with trust. When it comes to my car I can’t just let anyone work on it. This place is family owned and gave me family treatment. I got my car fixed and it’s running great. Thank you!

Having very little knowledge of cars besides taking it in for an oil change every 3 months and checking the tire pressure every other week, I was very concerned when my check engine light decided to light up on one of my commutes. I decided to Unilocal a place close by and Peter’s Foreign Auto popped up. Got an estimate and turns out that I needed a new thermostat. Got quoted around $ 360 dollars which was much better than a few other places that I talked to. Not sure if I got a deal, but the mechanics that I dealt with were wonderful. I just wish they broke up the labor cost/​parts for me when it was time to pay so I had a better understanding of how much the actual part was!

i have been going to peter auto-​service for over 30 years! can’t even count the number if times i have taken my cars, friends cars, room mates cars, told strangers… etc.
i actually get excited when a friend need car help… i even have turned people from their favorite mechanic to peter!
all cuz peter is the best! he knows all about cars: every strength and weakness of each car and each year. he is honest to the bone and as other review have said will never do more that what is needed.
i am was bummed when i bought a VW. almost wish i didn’t cuz peter does not work on VW’s and not i have to deal with the average mechanic.
but i still personally drop off friend’s car to peter!

I came across these guys through a friend and they were very helpful. Took care of my car as soon as I got there and solved my problem in a blink.

I’m writing this review just after I told Peter to put $ 2,100 of parts and labor into my ’97 Lexus, because I trust that the work he’ll do will keep it running for another 100,000 miles. That’s why my family has been taking our cars here for over a decade.

Went in for a quick fix with my Prius and was very impressed with the service. Very nice and friendly and even showed me what they were doing! Top notch!

Quite possibly the best mechanic in west LA for Japanese imports. Peter will politely tell you that they do not do German cars since they’re not the best at those, and if you think that deserves a 2-​star review then, well, I’m out of arguments.
Rest assured, simply take your car in and let them take care of the rest, you’re guaranteed to get the most out of your money. Peter never charges for checkups, and will let you know of any potential problems without the threatening tone, then suggest a fix at a later time long as it’s safe to do so.
Will not take my Mitsubishi Eclipse GT anywhere else while I’m still in LA. Told a few of my friends of Peter’s and they’re all very happy. Dealership gets to work on my car only if it’s under warranty, everything else — Peter’s.

Went back for a second time a while back and did not report it here (for which I am experiencing remorse). They out performed themselves. They will fix the problem and do you right. With trust. And, with your go ahead they will even fix anticipated problems. This is a great place. It is your basic LA hole in the wall (with a bit of retro class) but DO NOT let that deter you. Walk outside. Go up the street. Breathe. Enjoy LA. Or go home and wait. It will be okay.

I’ve gone to Peter’s several times and am usually pretty happy. They’re good about taking a look and not charging me if it’s something they can’t do. Unfortunately, after I got new struts the back half of my car would make a horrible creaking sound when someone would get in or out. I took it back twice with the complaint and all they did was lube it. Problem still not solved.
I even took it to other mechanics and they said, «Take it back to where you got the struts. They should fix it for you no charge.»
Needless to say, it’s frustrating having to leave the car with the mechanic all day (multiple times) only to have the problem come back within a few days.

I have been going to Peter’s for 20 years. They are honest and professional. I do not go anywhere else. Peter is a great owner and really does good work. I recommend them HIGHLY.

I love this place. I’ve been taking my car here for 3 and a half years and they always have terrific service. They never underquote me and always let me know if there is any additional work that should be done.

Peter’s did a great job with my Mazda RX-​8. Improved performance and fixed nagging problems other mechanics hadn’t been able to figure out.
Great pricing and customer service too.

Took my Rav4 in here when it sorta just blew up. Turns out it was the water pump, and while in there, they called me and said while they were in the vicinity (in the engine) they should replace my timing belt. They were convincing, seeing as how the car has about 90K on it, and they had a good rep here, so I went for it. The car has been running far better since, and I feel very good about the experience I had there. So I’ll be taking it there in the future. If I had the bucks, I’d be letting them do all kinds of things to it right now, it needs it. :) Anyway, so far so good.
I hadn’t had a mechanic for this car yet. For one thing, didn’t really need one very much, and when I would take it to either the Marina Del Rey or the Santa Monica dealerships, I would never feel too good about it, always felt like they were overcharging me, and the guys who took the orders there frankly seemed a bit sketchy. Then they would always hit me with ALL these horrible things that were «about» to go wrong with the car and that I’d better spend all this money on, and it seemed like they were just playing the fear card to get more business.
So I was looking for a good indie mechanic, and so far I like this place. Also its’ close enough to my house I can walk home. :)

I have been going to Peter’s for 14 years, and I don’t see myself going anywhere else.
No games, no scams, no hustles.
Simply put — a Great Staff that offers Excellent Service at a Very Fair Price.

I took my son’s Mitsubishi Galant for suspension work. Peter replaced the complete suspension and checked the whole car out replaceing worn out fan belts on his own. Now thats called service.
I have known Peter 15 years now and there is no better place to take your Japanese cars. His service and prices are unbeatable!!!

I went there by referral, and I noticed that this place is reliable. Peter is an amazing guy. He knows everything about the car, and he is not exaggerating what car‘s need. Trust-​able, affordable mechanic.

I’ve been a customer of Peter’s for a long time now — I started going to him four cars ago and haven’t gone to anyone else since. He’s the kind of mechanic that makes you want to stick with buying Japanese — or one of the other types of cars he works on. (Tony, in his shop, is also great and very easy to deal with.)
I originally found out about Peter when I was calling around to see who could fix the motor of a broken driver’s-side power window in my Nissan Stanza. Peter ended up charging me about $ 80 when every other estimate was in the $ 300-​$ 400 range. Every time I’ve gone to them, they’ve given me great, no-​nonsense service at what I’ve always felt to be a great price. (After the first couple visits, I stopped getting estimates from other shops.) As long as this shop is open, I’ll be taking my cars here.

This is the type of mechanic one inherits. I found out about Peter through a friend who’s family had been taking their cars to him for years. Peter has been there forever and does great work on Toyotas and other Japanese makes. Charges a reasonable price and stands behind his work.

I’ve been going to Peter for over 8 years and think that he’s so great that I joined Unilocal just to give him the rating he deserves.
I first went here because he was voted «Most Honest Mechanic» from somewhere. I was pleased to find out that he deserved that title. This is the type of place where if there is nothing wrong with it, they are not going to fix it. I’ve left there more than once without being charged for anything and Peter saying «oh, it was just the blah blah blah… took a second to fix.» And when you do need something fixed their prices are very competitive and all my repairs have been great including a timing belt, water pump, oilpan, front and rear sensors, and much more! hmmm… maybe I need a new car.
The point, go to Peter’s and you are in good honest hands.
I know they do Hondas, Toyota, Acura. No VW. I don’t think they do German cars. They are Peter’s Foreign, not Peter’s All Foreigns. :) You can call and ask them.
